1988 Trans Am with TONS of aftermarket parts

I will not part out at this time...

This listing is for a rolling body with ALL the parts (minus a torque arm) that you need to complete this beast-of-a-build (plus tons of extras)

The car has been covered and stored indoors for the last 13 years. It has been stored inside a relatively nice garage with a car cover on. The parts have been stored indoors as well. The previous owner also stored it indoors, and the owner before him was a professional tennis player and likely also stored it inside.

After 4.5 years of research and buying, I acquired all the parts for a set up that, based on similar combos, should be pushing around 405rwhp which comes out very close to 500bhp. All you need to do is install them, turn the key and go. I have everything you need except the torque arm. While you could find a stock one for around or under $30, I would recommend going with an aftermarket one because of the power that's going to be going through the drive-train. Feel free to ask me any question or for more details or specs of any of the parts.

Aside from the drivetrain and exhaust, the car is complete as it sits right now and is ready to be wheeled onto your trailer. The body, interior, and wiring are complete and intact and ready to accept the parts below that are included in the sale.

The photos are from when I was last driving it back in the summer of 2003 and since it has been stored covered inside of a garage, it for the most part pretty much looks the same. The car is very nice, but don't expect mint show-room condition...There has always been a chip of paint missing on the rear bumper and the front bumper also has some paint missing from when a raccoon ran into it (just paint-only damage).

I forget the exact mileage that the body has, but it's somewhere between 233k-244k, although you'd never know it to look at it. (I think I bought it at around 233k). Almost all of the parts that go with this are either new or have less than 5k miles.

Since these parts are not installed, it gives you great flexibility to either:
1) assemble them and have a extremely nice-looking third gen Trans Am
2) mix in your own combination of parts to go a different direction with the car (maybe you want a different intake or brakes)
3) sell the parts individually and make money

This car has an IMSA fiberglass hood made by Baldwin Motion, which I believe might be the only one still in existence. I have not come across one person who has this hood (on here or otherwise) nor have I ever seen one driving around or at any car show. I have seen 1 or 2 over the last 10 years that have a bolt-on scoop in the style of this hood, but no one with this actual 1-piece fiberglass molded hood.

Will sell the vehicle and everything I have for it for $7,500 - If you tried to do this piece-by-piece you'd be well over $14k before you ever got done buying the parts themselves,...let alone the car or the hood. UPDATE 11/20/17: ACCEPTING BEST OFFERS FOR A LIMITED TIME

Cash only. I will not hold the car without a deposit. I won't sign over the title, or give you the vehicle until it's paid in full. Sorry, No Trades

The title is clean and clear and ready to be signed over to you.

Interested in selling any of those parts in the pictures?

Not that far away in Southwest Cleveland suburbs plus I'm in Columbus quit a bit.

Wow! I saw the parts that go with it and the extras are as impressive as the car! Someone should pull the trigger on this deal. Wish I wasn't over-extended at the moment with putting a kid through college and all I would have to strongly consider making that trip! GLWS.

How storage space would this take to hold it all with out the car? A full 2 car garage? Thanks

Re: 1988 Trans Am with TONS of aftermarket parts

Without the car I could easily store the stuff into an empty one car garage.

Most of the stuff is in bins and boxes, and are packed in a way that maximizes space at the expense of logic or ease of use/finding something. Most of these bins/boxes can be stacked.

I have three metal cabinets that store a large majority of the parts. I would be possibly open to selling them if needed. Or I have some cheapo metal shelves and some older banquet tables that you could have for free if I still had them at the time of your purchase.

To actually work efficiently on the car though, obviously having more space would be beneficial....and I think an open full two car garage would be enough.

To give some additional reference, at one point I had a 2.5 car garage that had tools, household items, all these parts, the trans am, and another car...

Re: 1988 Trans Am with TONS of aftermarket parts

Off the top of my head I don't remember where I got them. It was a long time ago. It was a company out of California that sold them and you could get whatever you design you wanted etched into it. I then had them powder coated elsewhere. I'm not sure if you saw the two pics of them on the link, but here they are. If you want more let me know, but it might take some time.

When I see your car and parts post, I always think about it a bit especially since now we have access to a car trailer. But I would have to unload either my 84 TTA or 87 GTA or both first to generate the space.

Re: 1988 Trans Am with TONS of aftermarket parts

Yes. I am still selling.

You quoted the trades section from my original post and so on that note, the only trade I would possibly be interested in would be for a cargo or sprinter van...but I'm looking for something very particular in those areas.

Are you interested in the car?

Yes could be.. However you’re asking price is still $7500 right? I’m in the U.K. London England and looking to export over here. Do you have an email address to discuss this further? Cheers Shaz

Re: 1988 Trans Am with TONS of aftermarket parts

Last chance...Make Offer: Want a Black Friday / holiday deal on the whole package?

Read my entire description and then PM me your best, serious cash-in-hand offer before I change my mind again.

Someone is going to get a hell of a deal.

Seriousness and number of offers depends on how quickly I accept one. (or guaranteed buy it now for my original $7,500 price)

But come January if it's not gone, I am either going to put it all together or start parting it out (no requests for individual parts at this time). If I'm still in the mood to sell if after Jan, it will never be offered as a package deal again.

Re: 1988 Trans Am with TONS of aftermarket parts

K. Trying to process all.

for example, it looks like there are 5-10 sets of ttops. Not that these are extremely valuable, just trying to get a grip on it all. There also seems to be like 5 or 6 overhead counsels amongst other things.
thanks

Will you please show a picture of the hood with it latched closed? Can't decide if the hood was never closed in your pictures or if the lines are really bad at the front.

Re: 1988 Trans Am with TONS of aftermarket parts

The very 1st pic (in the driveway w/ 2 firebirds on the street) on this thread is with the hood latched. The hood seems thicker than the stock hood which might or might not be contributing to this. Any of the pics in the flickr link of the car inside are going to be super exaggerated as we took the hood off to remove the original engine and haven't put it back on properly. When the new engine went in the car I was going to see if there was anything that could be done to make the front of hood sit a little lower. It never bothered me too much though.

Re: 1988 Trans Am with TONS of aftermarket parts

Thanks. If you ever sell that hood then I'm your man. Not even going to worry about the price because I know you'll be fair. Doesn't matter if it is this week or 2 years from now, just don't forget about me when it comes time to sell. I'll come pick it up in person. No shipping mess to worry about.

If you need a stock hood then just pick one out from somewhere, send me the link, and I'll have it shipped to your home as partial payment.

Re: 1988 Trans Am with TONS of aftermarket parts

Ok. Here are some answers to requests by people:

This was originally a 5.0 TPI car. When I bought it had been switched over to a jasper 350. I replaced the camshaft and this caused an oil and antifreeze leak, which destroyed that motor. I pulled the motor and began assembling everything here for a new setup. I motor and heads I pulled went to the scrap yard. What is included here is much much better though...

The car has an alarm system which (from what I remember) also allows remote locking and unlocking of the doors.

The hood was purchased in 2000 and the car painted in 2002. Front and rear bumpers have paint chips that will need to be touched up or resprayed. The radiator leak, caused some of the paint on the underside of the hood to flake off as well. (pic in new link below)

The spare 350 that is included wasn't the one that was in the car when I bought it. This one was included in a storage unit I bought a few years ago. I don't know anything about the history of that block. It is randomly missing a rod and piston. It will likely need a rebuild...or at min. freshened up. It's a 638 block, 1 piece rear main seal, and is (I believe) set up for option use of a roller cam based on look of the valley. (pics in new link below)

The underside of the car is in pretty good shape considering it has 233k+ miles....very little rust. Keep in mind that it's not a show car. I took a bunch of photos 2 days ago to give an idea. The photos show how the car currently sits. I didn't wipe anything down or even remove dust or cobwebs. I never wiped off the original areas the oil and radiator leak blew to. Really the worst issue is a small hole in the floorboard on the passenger side. Here is a link to these photos and the ones mentioned above:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Za...sccfTmeZnKs0RM
-reminder: the engine shown here is the spare 350...not the main 406

The 406 block was built in 2002 and never run. I bought it around 2004 and also never ran it. Here is some info on it from the person I bought it from:

400 block bored .030"
with TRW forged aluminum pistons TRW-L2489F30
SDPC balancer part
#6272225 also done is
Hot tanked and magnaflux
Bore and hone with deck plate
.010-.010 crank
.035" deck clearance
Resurface deck to flat
cam bearings
checked align bore
Pink rods
Resized rods to bolts
ARP rod bolts
crankshaft oil holes chamfered
complete assembly balanced (externally I assume)

This should handle the setup I have here. If you are going to do anything super more aggressive, I would recommend redoing some of the internals, especially if you are going to super or turbo charge...but doing that would create the need to change out several other parts in this setup anyway.

The super ram, lower intake, and AFR heads were purchased from JohnnyIroc who had them port matched. He had less than 5,000 miles on this setup. I never got the chance to install them myself. He gave me the following info when I purchased:

195 74cc
ss 2.020 + .050
ss 1.600 + .050
upgrade spring 8020 to 8015
steel 10 degree retainers
10 degree valve locks
rubber valve seals
guide plates
rocker stud upgrade 3/8 to 7/16 stud
s.b. bronze guides .502
2.200 intake seats
1.695 exhaust seats
helicoils 7/16 14x1.2
angle mill and correct intake 58cc

Head Flow Data
.1 = 67.9 / 56.0 = %82.47
.2 = 134.3 / 113.9 = %84.81
.3 = 201.1 / 167.9 = %83.49
.4 = 248.2 / 206.1 = %83.04
.5 = 276.6 / 227.0 = %82.07
.55 = 282.2 / 233.0 = %82.57
.6 = 283.6 / 239.3 = %84.38

Here is the information the original owner of the 9 bolt rebuild kit. I have not installed this either.

9 bolt COMPLETE rebuild kit from ratech (all timkin) with severe duty pinion shims and a solid spacer to replace the crush sleeve. With this will come ring gear bolts from arp and 2 bottles of redline lightweight shock gear fluid. These were purchased to beef up the 9 bolt to handle a good amount of power. Of course nothing here is used, all brand new in box.

Not specifically mentioned in the original post, but included and shown in the flickr album is:
Coan torque converter 3,000 stall w/lockup
3.5 aluminum driveshaft for use w/ a ford 9"

These are in addition to the 3.5" aluminum driveshaft for a 9 or 10 bolt and in addition to the Vig. TQ coverter.

The transmission rebuild kit and shift kit are brand new, not installed, and not part of the built transmission referred to in the original post.

I bought the built 700r4 from Johnnyiroc. Here are his original ads for it, as well as the torque converter, headers, exhaust, and muffler which I also bought from him.

This would be a good project for you. I know a few Felts' that would think you were really cool with a Trans Am.

Still available guys. Make offer. Someone's going to get a good deal.

If I am still selling after the new year I'm going to start breaking it down into parts/lots as my work schedule permits.

Can't believe nobody has grabbed this after all this time! I'd buy this tomorrow if I hadn't cleaned out my bank account to buy the pickup I bought a couple weeks ago. Any chance you'd be interested in an 08 duramax crew cab dually that needs a motor(which I have)?

QWKTrip: When my schedule allows me to start breaking it up, I will let you know about the hood.

//<86TA>\\ - Re: Fiber Concepts - that's interesting, but several parts of their site seem to be not updated or maintained, so I wonder if it is actually still available, if their price is still accurate, and what their lead time is.

zya5point9 - Not interested in dually, sorry. If you sell it though, check to see if this is still available.

I might be tempted by a straight up trade though of something running (or pro-level film/video production gear),...maybe.

Mostly. There is one seat that has some rips...and one that might need some bolster repair. But most of them are in good condition. Pics here (go backwards to see a few more):
-pretty sure those white flecks are just dust, or other material and not holes...but I can check to make sure later

Thanks. Yes, there are actually two places that make the hood still. Getting one is easy and pricing is not a mystery. But in my experience aftermarket parts tend to fit better when they were made closer to when the cars were new.

But you are right, the rarity is not because you cannot get it, it is because hardly anybody chooses to get it. I'm not sure if I will like it or not on my car but buying used is harmless because you can always sell it for what you got into it.

I was going to get that hood for my 92 a few years back and spoke with fiberconcepts. At the time they said it was available and the lead time was a week or two, however they said they hadn't sold one in years.

Re: 1988 Trans Am with TONS of aftermarket parts

re: extra seats - the white flecks are just general dust and debris. There is a cigarette hole on one of the seats. Some of the seats have items that have been stored on top of them (such as seat bottoms, plastic trim pieces, etc...so there are some bottom and side bolsters that might need some time for the foam to return back to normal. Overall though...good shape, especially for 30 year old car seats.

Where is the price at now? I have a friend with a truck and trailer and between the two of us, we could probably use most of this.
