1989 Maui Blue on Gray Pontiac Formula 350 WS6 Automatic w/T-tops

Beautiful high option car with original engine/trans/rear axle, repainted last year PPG with new OEM top/side window seals (have never leaked before or after seal replacement), original T-top bag, have new decals in box I decided not to put on after having the paint done. Rear spoiler replaced with a new Hawk's fiberglass unit that looks great and is a helluva lot lighter than the original rubber one, still have the original spoiler. Side windows and rear hatch tinted to legal levels. Hood and hatch lift arms also replaced with new ones.

Stock except for Walker Dynomax cat back exhaust with factory style tail pipes, new Accel injectors upgraded to 26 lbs., Holley adjustable fuel pressure regulator, new GM EGR valve, cold air kit with K&N filter, Thermomaster chip and 160 degree thermostat, high volume fuel pump, slotted/cross drilled rotors and Wagner Thermo stop pads all around, fresh oil in the original performance ratio rear axle a month ago. Headlamp and rear hatch motors replaced. I have the original airbox and chip to go with the car. Original WS6 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires with decent tread remaining all around.

Original R12 A/C that is so cold I have to turn it off sometimes even in South Florida's summers. Pieces of the original foam seals in the system have been coming out of the defrost vents sporadically so those will need to be replaced but the system cools/heats/defrosts fine as is.

Pioneer Hi Power 45 x 4 wpc CD stereo with remote, RCA outs for external amps/sub woofer, etc. and alarm capability, I never connected the alarm or remote door lock functions. Rear speakers are the originals, front are Pioneer 2 ways, stereo sounds great. Interior is gray cloth with tilt adjustable driver's seat, power windows/locks, tilt, cruise, delay wipers. New headliner with visors recovered in same material, original T-top shades not re-covered but I have a roll of the matching new headliner material to do that with.

Needs the console door close mechanism replaced due to a cracked plastic base where the arm goes in, but the armrest itself and the rest of the console is nice. No cracks in the original dash, no tears in any of the interior upholstery, all gauges work perfectly. The light gray hard plastic cover for the receiver of the belt on the passenger side needs to be replaced. The passenger side electric fan stopped running, but the car doesn't overheat or anything.

I also have the new GM power steering pulley that they recommend the original one be replaced with to avoid breakage, but have never had an issue with the original so haven't put it on yet. I have driven this car almost daily for the last 5+years and she just passed the 100K mileage mark, has been a very reliable driver.

Oil changes with Mobil 1 10w30 and Mobil 1 M1-111 filters every 5K miles, generally uses less than a quart during that period depending on how often I participate in skirmishes on the turnpike during my work day commutes between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, which is the path where all the mileage has accumulated. Can't think of anything else right now, any questions, just ask.

Attached pictures of from just before the paint was done due to fading on the roof and hood sections from the Florida sun, but you can see she was a beautiful rust free car prior to the paint. Will take and send more pictures to anyone who is seriously interested in becoming the new owner of this fine Pontiac.

Price is $7,500.00 and I'm not interested in trades at this point.

Re: 1989 Maui Blue on Gray Pontiac Formula 350 WS6 Automatic w/T-tops

Yes I still have it. Today I had a new set of BF Goodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S tires in the stock 245/50ZR16 size installed and got a front end alignment.

While it was on the alignment rack I noticed that the front sway bar end link bushings are worn out (still has the original ones on it).

I'll be putting a new set of Energy Suspension end links with polyurethane bushings on the car this weekend.

These are the new Comp-2 tires that just came out, not the old Comps which were crap. They're excellent, instantly made the car ride much softer than the Michelin Pilot Sports.

Also immediately noticed that they have more grip and are a lot quieter on the road. They're highly rated for hydroplaning resistance, will find out next time it rains here.

Although I've only driven them a total of about 40 miles today, so far I highly recommend these tires for anyone with the 16" WS6 wheels.

Nice car! Having a maiu blue formula myself I would love hearing and see more details on your paint job. More photos in different light and also how they formulated the paint mix. Also if you don't mind sharing, Where did you find matching headliner?

Re: 1989 Maui Blue on Gray Pontiac Formula 350 WS6 Automatic w/T-tops

I took a bunch of pics today inside & out for another guy, I may post them here at some point. The paint was done by the PPG certified shop in Miami and they formulated it by using the factory PPG paint code for Maui Blue. I'm not a painter so aside from that I have absolutely no idea about how paint mixes are done.

The headliner/rear side panels/visors were recovered by a guy down here I've used before with very good results. He had a roll of the material in the light gray and after he did everything he gave me what was left of the roll so I can do the inside T-top covers.

Just have to find someone who can remove the vinyl edge binding on the covers and sew it back on with a commercial grade machine so it'll look right. Over the last summer I just used the covers as they are, they help block out the sun coming through the T-tops when it starts gets really hot.

Re: 1989 Maui Blue on Gray Pontiac Formula 350 WS6 Automatic w/T-tops

Latest on my Formula 350: Odometer just passed 125,000 miles and still running great. Yesterday I did an oil/filter change and installed a new MSD brass contact distributor cap/rotor set, black 8mm Taylor plug wires and NGK Iridium plugs. The BF Goodrich Comp TA 2 tires have been excellent and still have lots of tread after 20-25K miles. While under the car I found two very slight leaks, one from the rear transmission seal and the other from the right rear axle seal so I'm going to take care of them this coming week. Everything else is tight, but I want to change the right front wheel bearing since I did the left one a few weeks ago. Since I'm going to change that wheel bearing I may replace the front slotted/cross drilled rotors with new ones and a new set of Wagner Thermo Quiet ceramic pads which I've been using for a long time with great results. I'll need to replace the struts/shocks sometime over the next few months, but not sure whether to go with Bilsteins or Konis. If I spend the $$$ for new struts/shocks I'll be keeping the car for a long time to come.

Re: 1989 Maui Blue on Gray Pontiac Formula 350 WS6 Automatic w/T-tops

Wanted to post an update since I haven't done so for a good while and I'm at 138K miles now. Replaced the A/C compressor, condenser and drier a couple thousand miles ago, kept it R12 since I have plenty of it. Saved the original compressor so I can have it rebuilt for future use. Still riding on the BF Goodrich Comp TA 2 tires that I put on at around 100K or so and have been very happy with them. The fronts still look great, but the rears are starting to look a little worn in the center groove of the tread. I got a new set of T-top shades from Firebird Central because I couldn't get the new fabric glued on the originals right. Kept the originals and still have plenty of the material so I might get a headliner guy to glue it on them. The new ones are really nice, but the backs aren't black like the originals. The slotted/cross drilled rotors and ceramic pads haven't worn out on the front yet, but I have a new pair of the rotors and pads with new bearings ready to install when they finally do wear down. I removed the catalytic converter and installed a test pipe, sounds better and feels like I picked up a few HP. Took the steering column apart since the tilt mechanism felt loose, tightened the four bolts to the retainer plate and it's tight as new again. The VATS quit working so I jumped the fuel pump relay and put in a VATS bypass, which got everything going again. Haven't put new shocks/struts on yet, but the originals still work well for being 30 years old now. Along with the stuff I've been doing to my '89 Formula I've been working on my 1976 Formula and 1975 Grand Am a lot for the past several month, so have to spread the Pontiac love around a little.

Re: 1989 Maui Blue on Gray Pontiac Formula 350 WS6 Automatic w/T-tops

I know what you mean, I had a 1983 T/A Pace Car that I sold before moving down to Florida and loved it. Then I got a white on gray 1989 Formula 350 WS6 T-Top and loved it, but traded it in on a new 1997 GMC Yukon 2 door 4x4 for my wife. I got a brand new 2001 WS6 T/A and it was okay, but I missed my old 1989 Formula so much that I sold the 2001 and got this Maui Blue '89. I'm coming up on 10 years of daily driving it now and just turned 140K miles, still love it.

I almost bought this car. Another fell into my lap at a good price for my wife so she got that one, but I do regret not getting the maui blue occasionally.

Honestly you're the type of owner I'd like to see keep the car in the end.
