1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA ASC Convertible
1989 Pontiac Trans Am GTA ASC Convertible with TPI 350 L98 motor. The car is number 58 of 139 L98 Convertible GTAs. Rare and hard to find. The car is in original condition has not been restored or modified (See pictures). Original patina. Great driver or nice complete car for restoration. Runs, shifts and drives great. The car has 97,944 original miles on original engine and transmission. I am the third owner and have owned the car for 12 years. Passed California Smog. A great opportunity to obtain a rare car at a great price. $7990 ourjpfamily@yahoo.com

Re: 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA ASC Convertible
Flew to Ontario, CA Nov 1st & landed around 12:45. Rented a car & drove to Riverside, CA. We (flew a long time friend with me) had to wait until approximately 3:00 to meet with "scramblin" at his place. We grabbed a bite to eat in the meantime.
Met "scramblin" & looked over the car and was exactly as expected possibly a little better than I was hoping for. Paid up, got paperwork, returned rental car & headed out toward Barstow, CA.
Rented a hotel around 10 PM in Needles, CA and slept about 7hrs.
Took off the next morning about 6 and drove until the evening & stayed the second night in Tucumcari, NM, watched the 9th & 10th innings of the World series & spent again about 6-7 hrs resting.
Headed out through NM, Texas, Oklahoma then into Missouri.
My 2 day estimate took 3 days but car was reliable & drove well throughout the 1800 miles.
Suspension can use shocks & a couple bushings but nothing major was wrong. Overall a solid trip with just one stop by the Texas Highway patrol looking for drug smugglers, we were let go without incident.
Cool car & good documentation.
At In N Out Burger in Barstow, CA.
At hotel the first night (notice headlight up, motors need rebuilt or some adjustment).
Hotel the second night
Made it back Thursday evening & took a pair of 89's to a car show Saturday.

Trip was great & just excited to have been fortunate enough to not only find the car, buy the car AND have a safe trip home.
Lots of windshield time but love driving, these Altima seats sure are more comfortable than my IROC seats.

Re: 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA ASC Convertible
It was quite risky & at 48 it is my first long trip buying a car as well. I've owned at least 40 cars but feel I know enough about these TPI cars to resolve issues on the road. A week prior I mailed tools, IAC, ICM, TPS & MAF including a new overflow bottle & cap to CA so I had some quick service parts in the trunk.
This will probably not happen again in my lifetime but we know have 3 convertibles to pass along to the kids when the time comes.
I didn't mention it earlier but we averaged right at 20 MPG. The timing couldn't have been better, weather & gas price wise.

Sadly was the wrong time of year or I'd have kept it in California. Hate seeing cars leave state

Re: 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA ASC Convertible
We love the car & going to make it nicer. The price seemed like a great point to pull the trigger just as soon as I saw it. I truly didn't realize when I was on tte hunt that a GTA Convertible to add to the line up would be so tough to find.
