1992 Formula 5.7 with CC1
1992 Pontiac Firebird Formula with 5.7 liter engine and factory t tops. Recent repaint over a rust free, dent free, no accident car. Black cloth interior is in excellent condition, absolutely no wear on driver bolster and it appears as though the passenger and back seats have never even been sat in. Car runs and drives excellent with no known issues and no known leaks. Car is fast, for it’s time, and shifts hard with a nice little chirp into second gear if you are so inclined. Still retains the two cat exhaust system and the right rear tailpipe was done incorrectly and hangs down too low. (Visible in the pictures.) I am the second owner of the vehicle and tend to be very picky about my cars, so here is what I can tell you, good and bad. Could use t tops, the tops on the car are glass type (original tops were acrylic) and they are scratched and there is a large “circle” on the interior of the driver side top, not visible from the outside, only from the inside. The engine needs to be detailed, and because of the rarity and desirability of this car, that should absolutely be done. The wheels should be removed and thoroughly cleaned and possibly refinished, although they are good driver quality and have new tires on them. Muffler and tail pipes should be replaced to get the tailpipes positioned where they belong, doesn’t absolutely need to be done, it is just a cosmetic thing because the right tailpipe hangs too low. Underside is very clean, floors are solid, very minimal surface rust is present on the underside in a few spots. The rubber bushings throughout the suspension could be replaced at some future point, again, no issues other than a little clunk every now and again. Radio works, not sure about the cd player, never tried it, however some buttons are cracked as visible in the photo…this is the rare factory U1A radio that the car was equipped with from the factory. Do NOT let my honest, straightforward statements regarding what I’ve described as “issues” overly concern you….this car is ready to cruise now and gets many compliments every time I take it out. If numbers are your thing, here are a few: In 1992 a total of 367 Firebird Formulas received the 5.7 engine; of those 204 had t tops; of those 54 had the U1A radio; and of those, 15 were black, so this car is one of those 15 cars….priced at $12,000.00 and that really is pretty firm.

ttop350. Thanks for the kind words; yeah it is a really nice car and gets a lot of attention whenever I take it out. When I have it in the driveway next to it's "twin" 1991 Black Formula 350 t top car you should see the people that drive by do a snap back to see them....kinda funny actually.

1992 Trans Am: Thanks for the compliment. I like the car a lot but I've just got to start getting rid of some of these cars. I think my price is fair, but nobody has even come to see the car. I'm having the same issues with a 2001 Firehawk with 11,000 miles on it that I'm selling as well....nobody comes to see them....starting to think I should have stuck with collecting old Mopars.....bite my tongue.

Re: 1992 Formula 5.7 with CC1
Just an update....I dropped the car to $11,500.00 and placed it on an unnamed auction site...not trying to be cute, I don't think we are supposed to post those types of ads here, however I didn't want someone from this board to come across it and then think I was being a jerk by having it priced $500.00 on the board then it is placed at a cheaper price elsewhere...make sense? So, the price is $11,500.00 or I'll probably just toss it back in storage, but I'd really prefer to move it to someone that enjoys these cars as much as I do.

I would love to have this car but seriously bad timing for me. (headaches of moving to a new home)

Re: 1992 Formula 5.7 with CC1
Is there no interest in this? Am I out of line on price? Am I suffering from believing the car is more desirable/valuable then I believe it to be? I mean this site should be the place to sell it, no? People here should be THE market for the car, yes? Please note, I'm not whining...well, maybe I am a bit...but I figure this car should have been long gone to a new owner that can appreciate it by now. Nobody has come to see it, it didn't get close to my reserve on Ebay....maybe I am a fool. Gotta tell you, if I wasn't getting too old and trying to get rid of my stuff, I would have been all over this car at more than my asking price. I've got about five or six cars to sell to get down to a manageable amount so that I can enjoy them rather than having them sit, but it is very discouraging that this car, one I think is really cool, isn't getting any interest. Let me know your constructive thoughts, thanks!

Just bad timing for me atleast, I am interested, but already spent alot of $$$ on a 89 formula last year. If you had this car for sale around February or March of 16 i would of been rethinking my purchase. Even still my cap would of only been 10k max, so i still would of been under your price. I drove 10 hours to get mine, and your probably 14 hours away so the drive wouldnt of been issue.
I think if this car had all the rare slp parts, runners, headers, exhaust, chip you probably wouldn't be holding on to the car long at your price. These cars are tough sellers even to a dedicated board.
Good luck with your sell.

Re: 1992 Formula 5.7 with CC1
I think that the market is a bit soft on Formulas. They're not as grandiose or iconic as an IrocZ or even GTA or Trans Am. They're kind of a niche thing for those that appreciate performance over the whiz-bang-FAT Elvis 80's excess of the GFX cars. And while some of us REALLY appreciate the 91-92 bird nose, and lack of ground effects, some people despise the beak. Their loss really.
I think the mileage and price are slightly mismatched. Not that I'm saying it's a bad deal, but 75K isn't all that impressive when you consider how many ridiculously low mile thirdgens are out there. I search the local listings all the time for thirdgens, and all the 5 digit priced cars seem to be listed forever. The $3k-5k cars are the ones that seem to sell reasonably quickly. That said I think your car is worth closer to your asking price than 5K.

I think you should detail the engine and fix the exhaust and any other small issues. This is a really nice car and you're asking a pretty premium (but not unreasonable) price for it. I think seeing the exhaust like that and a dirty engine bay detracts from it. I think it'd be a lot more impressive if you handled those two things to prospective buyers. Once you do that, just keep posting it on eBay and I Think it'll sell for $9-$10k

Re: 1992 Formula 5.7 with CC1
I agree that the cars priced at 3-5k sell quicker as most buyers will have that amount of disposable cash. Anything priced over 10k is going to have to find the right buyer which equates to taking time. Took me 7 months to sell my 82 Firebird. I had plenty of tire kickers and low offers but held out and got what I wanted for the car.
Your car is beautiful, I love the Formulas. Be patient, 3rd gen interest is only getting more mainstream everyday.

Greetings all, and a sincere "thank you" for your input.
Drew, totally cracked me up with "whiz-bang FAT Elvis 80's excess of the GFX cars"....thanks for that.
TTop350: mileage is listed in post #5
I'll probably toss it back in storage and rotate one of the others to sell. And I considered doing the detailing of the engine bay and taking care of the exhaust and actually decided not to, believing that whoever buys this car is going to want to make it their own by getting their hands a little dirty....I may have misjudged that and will revisit the issue.
Thanks again to all for your input!

Re: 1992 Formula 5.7 with CC1
Getting ready to put into storage....would rather get it to a person that would use and enjoy it, any interest or shall I toss it into storage until next year and start all over again? I will consider in person offers, but sight unseen offers or people trying to steal it to flip it is not what I am interested in, thanks. Oh, and I just realized, I'll be putting up a 91 Formula, t top car with 305 auto on ebay in a day or two....I'm the third owner, metallic red, factory paint, unmolested and original....except for the addition of some black crosslace in place of the salad shooters....86K miles and should go between 7K and 8K....but we'll see.

I would like to have some more information on the 92 Formula you have. I had a 91 that a drunk driver hit me head on in and would like to get another one.

Re: 1992 Formula 5.7 with CC1
Bluebird 91: Not sure what additional information you'd need that isn't already posted in the original post, but feel free to ask away and I'll answer the best I can.
I did put the car in storage, so I'll answer from memory to the best of my ability although I will, as I do for all my cars, be stopping out periodically to start it and drive it around the block so I should be able to get you whatever information you'd like and it'll be current. Thanks for your interest.

Re: 1992 Formula 5.7 with CC1
Car is now out of storage and being driven a bit. Still for sale, nobody has seen the car in person just a few picture/video collectors and the never out of style, "what is the least you'll take for a cash sale today" stuff....that never gets old. Also have a 1991 Formula 305 auto t top car, flame red metallic, about 87K miles, that is available as well. And a black 2001 Firehawk auto with 11K original miles and a matchiing 1991 5.7, t top car to this 1992, about the same miles as this 1992 and a red 1991 Trans Am convertible with 26K original miles and a 1980 Turbo Trans Am in blue with 65K miles, pretty much all original including the much maligned turbo motor. All cars in very good condition, none are projects, all are fully working driving nice examples of these cars. Let me know if you're interested, or I may just saddle my children with them to sell once I move on....yeah, that and my small collection of antique safes that I'm aggravating them with.

Beautififul car - not sure how anyone can dislike the Banshee-inspired front end. I think the '91 & '92 Formulas actually look better without all the ground effects, too.
And that engine bay is considered 'dirty'? Lol

Gorgeous cars! I so wish I had the money for either of the black ones. Been looking for a 91-92 formula 350 ever since I traded my 91 bird. I've been saving my $$ ever since I saw this post start

Thanks to all for the kind comments....I must admit to giggling like a school girl while sitting on my front porch when I see people do the double take when driving by the house and both the black formulas are sitting in the drive.
So I finally, had a guy show up to look at the '91 brilliant red metallic Formula, and he took it immediately, so that one is now sold. Always kinda cool when the buyer is excited to get the car and this guy sure was excited to get it. He was the second person to see the car, first guy was a flipper and I got rid of him pretty quick. Made his ridiculous $5k offer and I told him that was a great offer and that I would like to make an even better offer to him. I told him that he could go out and buy up all the original paint 1991 Formulas in the same condition as my car for his $5K and I'd give him $6K for each and every car he brought me...should have seen his face.

Formulas are like Potato Chips, you can't have just one... Ask me... I now have 3, owned 6 over the years.
