1991 Pontiac Trans AM (Real Y84) GTA. Purchased last year. Driven roughly 60 miles. Prior to that, car sat for a good 3-4 years in a dry, storage garage. 305 TPI, Auto. Front disc, Rear Drum
Car was purchased as my winter project however I found something else late last year, which has been my focus. Attempting to sell as current project is taking more time than expected. If I cannot sell, I will keep in storage and eventually work on.
With that being said, car is all original. It is not chopped up, modified, etc. The prior owners replaced the hatch motor, 8 injectors, headlight motors. I have disabled the vats system by soldering in resistors (nicely) as the car would periodically not start due to the key cylinder being worn out.
This is a project car that runs and drives. Runs and drives means I have driven it roughly 60 miles, and it starts, stops, idles nicely in traffic, did not overheat, leak fluids, etc. however it needs to be completely gone over and the following is what I am aware should be looked at:
1) Tires are Yokohama's avids with plenty of tread however dry rotted. They drive nicely around town however I would not drive them at highway speed.
2) The floor boards need some attention (see pics). They are not horrible but at the seams there are small holes.
4) The exhaust is all there however has/had holes. I tried to patch as much as I could muffler tape so it does not sound like a battleship however it will need exhaust from cat back. The cat is their.
5) Typical 3rd gen column wobble. Not horrible and drivable but if you rock it back and forth you will get play. Either tilt pins are worn or needs column tightened. Also, horn and no high beams working. It is most likely all inside the column.
6) Although fuel and brake lines are not leaking, they are rusted and should be replaced at some point.
7) the battery tray has rust, some parts missing.
8) weatherstripping all over.
9) Oil pressure sender unit or gauge is fluctuating. Sometimes it reads fine, sometimes drops to 0. engine runs smooth, no knocks, taps, etc. so I am guessing it is sending unit.
10) Has power antenna but currently stuck in up position.
This is what I know the car needs. Obviously it needs a full fluid swap and check.
Exterior paint is decent but some spots faded, many chips, some scratches. If you wet sanded, polished I am sure it would come back. If you want it perfect, you will need paint. Rear spoiler is there but has minor crack. exterior body though has no dents or rot that I see. Very clean, rust issues are underneath and battery tray from what I have seen.
The interior is very decent but rug is dirty, driver seat has a tear, dash and pad are good shape except few small cracks. Door panels good missing cup holders (I may have access to get some use though), trunk area nice. Has sony aftermarket CD player.
I will not get involved with shipping the car, etc. You need to physically come here and review and sign/do title paperwork legally. This car is sold as is, where it is, no warranties. It is currently not insured or tagged so you cannot legally drive it on the street.
The car last ran 12/2017. Been sitting all winter. This is the perfect car for someone who wants to get into third gens and do some work along the way. I have spare parts as well which I will sell for extra $$ for anyone who buys the car. They are a near mint TTop zipper bag, brand new hawks front end gfx with hardware and door cupholders.
