1989 Trans Am GTA. PRICE DROP

For sale is my '89 Pontiac Trans Am GTA. I am an engineer by trade and I build engines, manual transmissions and tune OBD1 GM fuel injection as a hobby. I built this car to be a comfortable but fast summer driver, and it's been exactly that for 5 years now. I NEVER planned to sell this car, but I feel it's time for me to move in a different direction that hopefully I won't regret. This car has been and still is bulletproof reliable. I've driven it on business trips for work, taken it on the Power Tour a few times, and I frequently drive it to work in the summer. It is mechanically 100% and needs absolutely nothing. I'm the 3rd owner, car has NEVER seen winter, NEVER sat outside and NEVER been neglected. It has absolutely no rust anywhere. Not even any surface rust, it is completely flawless underneath. Below is a list of the work done to the car.Engine:
383 cubic inch
10.5:1 compression ratio
Comp XFI268 camshaft
1.6 ratio roller rockers.
Profiler 185cc aluminum heads. (Ported and I have flow numbers on them)
Lingenfelter/Accel SuperRam intake. Fully ported with a 58mm throttle body.
1 3/4” ceramic coated shorty headers into completely custom dual cat Y-pipe with dual 2.5” catalytic converters and a 3.5” single exhaust with magnaflow muffler.

Transmission
T56 6spd manual. Was an NOS 1993 model M29 close ratio with a 2.97 1st gear.
Centerforce clutch
PRO 5.0 billet aluminum shifter

Axle
Stock 3.27 ratio with factory limited slip differential. Factory rear disc brakes.

Suspension
Rear suspension has J&M tubular rear control arms with poly ball bushings. Koni adjustable shocks, stock GTA springs cut half coil.
Front suspension has Global West Del-a-Lum bushings, J&M billet caster/camber plates, Koni adjustable struts, TDS wonderbar, stock GTA springs cut half coil.

Interior
Factory grey leather
Power adjustable front seats with inflatable lumbar and bolster support.
Aftermarket stereo with single 10” subwoofer and 500 watt amplifier
Everything works including cruise control, air conditioning, power mirrors, power seats, etc.

OtherWhen I built the car I also did various other repairs or preventative fixes. The headlight motors are rebuilt, hood and hatch struts have been replaced, fuel pump is a high capacity Walbro 255, Starter and alternator were new when the engine was built. Paint is nearly all original, rear spoiler is a Hawks fiberglass replacement. Car gets 28mpg on the highway if you’re nice to it. Usually averages 19-21 in mixed driving.
Has 18” wheels with real good tires, or I can put the original wheels back on. The original wheels will need tires.

$9950 is my asking price. PM me with in-depth questions or serious offers.

Re: 1989 Trans Am GTA.

I came to the public library to get on Wifi, still can't upload pix. I've contacted JT about it, we'll see what he has to say. Craigslist pix will have to do for now LOL. If I would have realized I couldn't upload pix, I would have delayed posting the car. This is a lot of money to ask for a car that you can't even post pix of! Just lump me in with the rest of the shady craigslist wierdos!

Thanks a ton for your support good sir. I really appreciate it. I’m not going anywhere, I’ve been here since before the crash. I believe I had my first screen name around 98 or 99 lol. My 86 IROC is with me till death, it’s the other cars that I’m putting up for sale. Blame Ford and their S550 Mustang GT.

Re: 1989 Trans Am GTA.

Because 1MeanZ is a pseudo-friend (really more of just an acquaintance), I always find it important that I add my 2 cents to his for sale ads. When Jeremy has had his hand in a build, you know that quality workmanship is paramount. For example, please reference the build quality of the attached car that he and I share ownership of...Jeremy painstakingly did all the body and paint work on it, and his skill set really shines on this one.
And regardless of the build quality, someone NEEDS to buy this GTA so it no longer has to live its life under the roof of a Ford fanboy. "Why would I want a 383 stroker when I could have 302 cu in with 16 cams and 32 valves per cyclinder all in a package so tiny that they had to bring back the entire '73 Mustang front end just to make it fit?" Hopefully his IROC will be the next to go so it doesn't have to live out its days parked next to that boat anchor.
In all seriousness, this GTA is a NICE car, a perfect combo of speed and driveability, with potential for respectable 1/4 times and autoX performace with a different driver/owner. I have seen the car in person many times and have even spent a little time in the seat and can say that it has been well represented in the ad. Still can't believe this is for sale...what a douche.

Re: 1989 Trans Am GTA.

I can't talk you into a GTA?!

The white car is my dad's. It's a 91 RS dressed as a Z28. Factory 5spd car, has a 3.42 posi disc rear axle and a healthy carbureted 350 in it now. Factory red interior with new carpet and re-covered red leather seats. He's kicked the idea around of selling it, but i'm expecting most will be turned off by the carb swap. It's a clean well built car, surprisingly fast too. I've put lots of miles on it and I'd trust it to drive anywhere at any time. If you're interested in it PM me.

Re: 1989 Trans Am GTA.

For all the talk of how much these cars are bringing these days, and for as much as people seem to like this car. I haven't gotten even one serious bite since January. I had it listed on CL and FB as well, not one bite. Bring A Trailer and Ebay would be the next avenues, but since I've delayed my plan to get a late model Mustang, I no longer have a desire to sell the car. I wasn't really 100% sure I wanted to sell the car in the first place, but it was the only way I was going to make the ends meet on a Mustang.

So I still have it, and no it's not really for sale unless the right guy comes along with the right money....

I think you should keep it. Your car is super nice. I don't know which model Mustang you were considering before I ended up with the cars I have now I drove every different package/drivetrain that was available. I think the PP2 package is the best bang for the buck. I was real close to getting a strippo 5.0 six speed with 3.55's as my daily driver if I remember correctly the deal I had was in the $27k range.

Hate to say it, but Irocs are leading the charge behind 1L-Gee whiz... The Firebirds are still lagging behind. I'd expect the market will catch up eventually as people look further than the cover of their Teenage Dirtbag album.

Re: 1989 Trans Am GTA.

Yah it’s been interesting to follow the rise. Inhave 2 IROCS now, makes me wonder if I should get a few more while the gittin is good. I view the GTA as the top of the thirdgen heap, but as was stated elsewhere on this forum, it’s more about nostalgia that which car is actually better.

If anyone saw this months issue of HOTROD magazine, you saw the artists rendering of an 86 IROC on the cover. Makes me wonder if IROCs will follow the recent meteoric rise of square body GM trucks.
