The title is still active. That info is readily available from the Ohio DMV. They just don't give out the owner information casually for someone that might want to buy it back. Based on recent info, it is still nearby.

Place a wanted ad on Craigslist with specifics about the car & a reward - place that same ad on as many boards as you are on asking for help.

I see you kept your records. I gave all the original paperwork, including the purchase agreement with maintenance records to the person I sold it to in 1998 so that is long gone. The only reason I still have the VIN is I found an old registration form in an old stack of papers I was discarding.
Thanks for the suggestions. Now I have to reset my Craigslist password again.

I don't know why I kept everything but I did - the car was traded so there was nobody to give them to so that helped.
Here is the thread that ultimately found it - on Yenko.net http://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?t=125997
Dan & Kurt are good friends now & I see them every year out at the MCACN show in Chicago - met Pete Graves a prior owner of my car as well.

That 1987 GTA was the first new car I bought too. I don't have the order, but I know it the sticker price was $18900. The salesman was a friend I new from 7th grade. He knocked the price down to $17K with $5k in trade for my 1982 Trans AM and I financed the $12K plus the tax. I don't have a huge emotional investment in that car since I have the exact car same GTA sitting in my garage now and it's probably in way better condition (after a LOT or work), but it would be interesting anyways to find it.

On a side note, I don't see why we have to pay taxes on a person-to-person transaction. Taxes on a new car I get, but why do I have to pay taxes on a used car bought from a private seller?
