That's not a "factory" model so it doesn't count...
I have a SUPER rare 84 Z28 modif"y"ed by Inwo Motorsports. Doesn't mean it's comparable to a factory model that came with an ultra rare option.

Wtf! A Mecham T/A "doesn't count" because it didn't come from the factory? Would you say the same about a Baldwin Motiion Camaro? How about a Yenko, Nickey, or Berger?

Btw, that is one sweet *** car! I've only seen 2 other Mecham (3rdgen) T/A's before. Both were sitting in a junkyard and ended up going to the crusher.

My dream car is a 77-78 Macho.

Good Point Black84Z but you forgot the Dana to go with the Nickey, etc.

But I agree with Inwo, this was probably just a one time modification that some guy did in his backyard, (and that does count as rare just not the valuable rare that Inwo is thinking of).
But if that's true I have an ultra rare one of a kind Turbocharged 1980 ElCamino SS.

Well, I was in study hall and was late for class so. The car is number 34R(The R stands stands for red I think) of around 500 in 82. Because it didn't come from the factory like this, it is still a rare car. If you at the T/A nationals their were two 2002s modifyed by Mecham Racing. Their website will give you more info. www.mechamperformance.com. The car is not fast when its stock for these days. The engine is a 305 4bbl. It has a two tone paint job as you can see. The car has urethane bushings all around with a 3.73 gears in the back. The springs are stiffer and lower the car 1 inch. I had to order new springs for the front and they told me to buy Ebach. The spoiler is also different as you can see. The wheels are 15 inch alloys. Here's some more info on em, I gotta go to cross country practice now. I'll be back

Sorry dude but that's ignorant .Like someone else said Baldwin Motion,Yenko,Nickey,Dana,Berger(soon will be), and COPO Camaros are rare and are worth big bucks just as will be that mecham T/A he posted.A Yenko and a COPO recently went for $50,000 and $120,000 at the Barret-Jackson Auctions.

The MSE Trans Ams were mostly a suspension/appearance package. The car did come with some engine performance parts but they were just delivered in the hatch. You actually had to install them yourself. By the way, what does a high school kid do with four cars?

You don't know how hard it is to type after running 8 miles.

The top three are my dads, well the Formula is my moms daily driver. And my dad drives the 87 monte or whatever else he wants to. You don't really think I owned all those cars. Especially a 34 grand car, plus the cost of the mods to the ZZ4.

I just got the MSE from my sister. Shes had it for about 4 or 5 years I think. I love the way she took care of the interior. I just wish she too care of the rust on the air cleaner. I'm working on that right now.

Oh yeah, notice the trailer hitch on the back. My sis used it to carrry her bike around. That came off first.

Heres another link to tell you more.

You can't compare a Mecham Racing conversion to a Yenko, Dana, Nickey or Baldwin Motion. Those cars were modified by the individual dealers with parts direct from Chevrolet with a special engine not really available on the order sheet for the general public. The cars were ordered from the factory with the specialty already in them(except the Baldwin-Motion which used 427 crate motors). The mecham is an aftermarket conversion with the modifications coming after dealer delivery.

If you want to try and make a point, at least do it with accurate data.

Was this directed towards me? Ahhh..no $hit they were dealer modified cars, but it's the same concept. They were cars taken from the dealer and modified by someone else because they wanted to do something different. All I was saying was that they were made special by somebody else other than GM(just like the mentioned dealers) and deserves the same admiration as those dealer cars. That was my point If you want to dispute someone's post learn how to read into it more before you spute an inaccurate assessment. like krazzycowgirl's post in another thread.

91Zman, no sense in getting pissy with the response when you haven't gotten an answer to your question. No, my reply was not directed towards you! You said basically the same thing I did. Lighten Up!

it's just that you mentioned a dealer that no one else mentioned and I thought you had directed that response towards me. Sorry for the outburst ..... no coffee in the morning does that to a person.

I may not know what i'm talking about.........but it seems you guys that say it isn't rare are forgetting about the SLP Firehawks......

They were made by an individual company and they didn't come from the factory.......

LFN AT U, where exactly do you keep 10 cars???

Then you would be forgetting that the MR MSE's did not have an RPO code from the factory and the Firehawks did.....

I have a two car garage where I keep my two cars I'll have forever ('82 Firebird and '85 Trans Am w/350). I'll probably also keep the '84 Trans Am 305 H.O. I have a lot of land so the rest are kept outside. I'm planning to build a 48'x52' building next year to keep them. All my other cars are for sale or to part out. I'm hooked up with quite a few junkyards and towing companies around here so I pick up new ones all the time. Also, I just get calls from people quite a bit about cars they have for sale. I usually have about seven or eight, ten is actually more than I like to have. Eight of the ten I have now are nice cars. I should probably get a picture of all of them together and post it.

Very nice. Haven't seen one of those in a long time.

Buddy of mine has a 79 MACHO TA that he's restoring. It was the actual press car for Super Stock Magazine or whatever it was called back then.

Looks like a keeper

Hello,

I believe that Steve Saleen was a driver for Elliot Forbes-Robinson in 1982. They campained 3rd gen Firebirds in SCCA Trans Am. If look at a picture of those Firebirds, you'll see that same "Saleen" wing.

There is a tie-in between Saleen, Elliot Forbes-Robinson, Mecham Racing and those 3rd gen race cars. I think Mecham owned the cars that Forbes-Robinson raced, or they provided the engineering design/support.

I think it's discussed on one of the back issues of HPP (Jan 1997?). From memory, the wing was actually designed by Mecham. I think the article also goes on to say that GM used the Mecham wing as the basis for the OEM 85-90 wing.

Yea, when you open the trunk you can see the paint gone where the spoiler hits the fender. I'll have to get it raised.

Most I have is one, and I can't drive it much as it is right now.

That's pretty much what I'm working on getting going myself. However, I'm probably about a year away from really getting into it. (Although I have an insane amount of parts already.) I'm hooked up with some towing companies and junkyards around here so I've got a lot of connections when it comes to getting cars. Not only that but my friend owns one of the biggest auto auctions in the midwest. I actually have the potential to probably pick up about five cars a week. When you consider the amount of cars I'm offered I guess ten isn't too many. Until I get my building done next year I'm trying to keep my number down. Actually, I should be able to keep the number down anyway because I usually have cars parted out and ready for scrap in two days. Its the cars I sell that stick around longer. That's what most of the cars I have right now are.

It always reminds me of a shortened more angled version of the 85-90 Aerowing.

I've noticed this on other pics of 82 MR MSE's...

Why do the 82 MSE's have 83 T/A wheels? The wheels on your car didn't exist until the 83 model year, and I've seen that on other cars before. Maybe they're special wheels that just happen to look exactly like 83 T/A wheels?

Also, did MR replace the side door moulding, because it looks rounded like the later 3rd gen mouldings.
