It takes quite some time to build an mpeg from a video tape. I took what I figured was the most "interesting" and tried that first.
I'll see if I can find some "highlights" and make another clip.
I am trying to make video cd (VCD) so I can play it in my DVD player.
Mark.
PS. How is the quality? Sound level?

It's got some horizontal lines every now and then but nothing too major, the streaming is cool. The audio could use a little work though.
Hey, when you get the entire tape on your computer, just give me the link to the whole thing I've never seen a Players or and IROC race before...

The video was taken from TV broadcasts in 1989. So mono is all the sound you get. I did only make with 8 bit sound to save space.
I have one race on my PC. It is a 21 minute race making a 199MB file (higher quality for VCD). I need to test it out and see how it looks on the TV. I might end up making one race per VCD. I don't claim to be an expert in video compression ... not yet anyways.
I don't have any place I can put a 200MB file for you to download. I use to have my own web server at home, but got tired of working on it.
I'll see if I can make up another video clip today (under 10MB). I recall some interesting "bumps" and "bruises" that might be interesting.

Quite the "bungle" of cars rounding the corners. Rubbing seems to be Ok with cars that have fenders to protect the suspension. You don't often see F1 cars doing that. :-)

In 1989 through 1992, they are all 1LE cars. Approx. 70 camaros and 10-20 firebirds were made each year, although in the 1991 and 1992, there was less than 10 firebirds made. LEss drivers wanted the firebirds.
The cars had to be ordered from GM specifically from GM with a Players Challenge option code. All cars were 100% equal (same power rating, sealed engines, etc.). The only difference was Camaro to Firebird. You could not take a normal car and modify it for the race.
In 1987 you could only race 1987 cars.
In 1988, you could race either a 1987 or 1988 car.
In 1989, it was only a 1989 car.
In 1990 it was only a 1990 car.
In 1991, you could race a 1990 or 91, but the 1990 needed a new motor.
Same for 1992.
In 1987 the teams were given Brembo front brakes.
In 1988 the teams were given 1LE brakes.
In 1989, the cars came with 1LE brakes.
In 1990, Speed density came out. Hence the reasons they could use a 1990 car in 1991 or 92 as long as they bought a new motor.
All Teams had to use GM's race only "prom". As well as GM approved brake pads and air filters. Very strict guidelines ... although there was lots of "interpretation".
In short, yes Players cars in 1989-1992 are 1LE cars. Now you know why many are not longer around. I would guess that 3-5 cars got written off per season (I think I counted 3-5 in my video tape).
