dual exhaust - 1992 RS
just wondering...did dual exhaust come standard on 92 RS's?

How about the 230 hp 5 speed Z28s, L98s, and 1LEs?
did they dual exhaust or come together after manifolds and then split back to dual pipes with dual cats? I can't seem to remember. Been a long time since I looked under one and my brain is going fast.

I had an 83' Z and it had the regular old setup.

Definitely for real. my 82 T/A has it. All 82-83 F-body V8's had it from the factory AFAIK. I don't have any full under-body shots, but I do have a model car which is accurate. Worship below

I have a model somewhat like that one that has the 2-resonator system, except it's a 85 IROC.
I also have a real car, a 83 HO Z28, that does not have that type of exhaust.
I've seen both; I don't know why some cars had the one and some the other.

It should be 82-83 only. Technically 82-early84 because some '84 LG4's got it. And V8-only. Dukes and V6's had different setups.
No IROC had it, to my knowledge. Could be just a toy mistake.
see following attachments.

Interesting...
The one with the dual resonator setup isn't listed for L69, and only shows the super-restrictive pellet-style cat used on early LG4 and LU5. It doesn't show the 4-bolt L69 and early LB9 & L98 cat, like the other one does. So you're probably right about the "toy mistake", I would hardly consider such a thing to be authoritative anyway.
Anybody know the pipe sizes in that system?

2 1/2 " is a wild guess. I really don't know.
edit: look at clamp, part #18 on the 2nd diagram. says "fits 2.375 " .. that's 2 and 3/8.
BTW part listing # 20 is the L69 cat, in the bottom diagram. I don't see it pictured though
oops.. edit: I do see it pictured, off by itself. ok.

How did the early 4 cylinder and V6 cars look? My 83 needs a new system soon and want to see if it's any different from the more common setup.

The L98 never used the 4 bolt cat. They use the long skinny slip fit cat.
Every Fbody model I've seen to date has the 82-83 exhaust. My 83 LG4 Coupe did not have the resonator exhaust.

Well unless someone bought it new, there's no telling what a previous owner has done to a car.. so the only thing we have to go on is literature, which I'm reluctant to trust unless I can verify it, and rare original cars that have never been modified.
The LL1 H.O. 2.8 V6 engine in 83-84 S/E's is yet another setup destined to never be documented properly.. I don't have a scan handy but my LL1 car has 2 outlets both coming out of the driver's side next to each other. Never seen it on any other thirdgen, but I've seen it on multiple LL1's so I trust it's accurate.
other than that, I don't know what an Iron Duke or an LC1 V6 would've had MDV6man but hopefully someone can post a Parts & Illustration guide scan..

F-body L98s may not have used the 4-bolt cat; Corvette ones did however, at least in 85.
2.375" U-bolt makes sense, as that would be the expanded slip-fit size for 2¼" pipe, typical LG4 stuff. So I guess the dual-resonator system could only have come on the lower-performance models.

I would agree that the 2 on the left setup was fairly common on V6 thirdgens in the 80's. The Iron Dukes and maybe some of the V6's used a round muffler with a single tail pipe.
I've seen the dual resonator setup almost exclusively on Z28's. I always paired it with the CFI. I think I may have seen a Berlinetta with that exhaust, but its been a couple years since I've seen one on a car. For that matter, its been 9 months since I've seen a Berlinetta...

I had no idea 82-83's had that set up. Man I learn something new from these boards every day.
My iron duke bird is pretty straight forward. Got the pipe coming down from the manifold and goes into the cat. The cat back is one pipe that goes over the axle and into the muffler. One outlet. Plain and simple.

well...
I don't think I would recommend it over any cat back systems for performance....being that even with that exhaust those motors were still barely wheezing out 150 hp.

the previous statement is not true, some camaros did come with dual exhaust. If the G92 option was ordered, it came with N10 (dual cats) performance exhaust. This increased power output by 13% on cars equipped.

Here's the G92 exhaust system.
Somebody help me out here, I'm really struggling with this.... I can't seem to count to 2..... all I see is 1. I see 2 cats & 2 tailpipes, but only one I-pipe and one muffler. This somehow looks single to me. Am I missing something?

N10 was as close to "dual exhaust" as a ThirdGen got, from the factory ar least.
I have it, and don't really have any conclusive proof, but it was claimed to be worth a 10hp increase, probably at peak, but still at least it's something.
I did see an interesting true dual setup once on my buddy's '84 Firebird. Not much about the car was stock, the previous owner ran Hooker LTs, and reduced them down to I believe 2.25" pipe, and actually ran those two pipes all the way back in the stock location, right next to each other and over the axle. There they went to their respective sides and ended into small Turbo mufflers right at the rear bumper. It looked odd but logical, unfortunately I never got to find out about it's effectiveness or lack thereof, because he got rid of the car.
