What seat is RPO AR9?
The decoder says it's an "European Style" reclining seat; in layman's terms, does this translate to a PMD style seat, or is it the more common style with the adjustable headrest? This is on my 1984 T/A. Original seats were long gone when I got the car.

RPO AR9 only means the "Standard Seat" for a particular Interior Trim. The Trim Code will be on the cowl tag on the radiator support and on the label in the console.
For '84 Firebird & Trans Am
Trim codes:
17R,22R,60R,64R,67R
17B,22B,60B,64B,67B
will be have a AR9 RPO, but are the Standard non-headrest bucket seat.
Trim codes: 17C,22C,60C,64C,67C
that have a AR9 RPO, will have the Custom Bucket seat with headrest.
Those with AQ9 will have the Lear-Siegler Custom bucket seat.

Cool, thanks, that clears up a lot of questions for me. Someone either tried to pass this car off as a Recaro T/A at some point, or took the doors or handles from an original one because these Recaro T/A handle inserts were always on this car since i've had it. I never really looked into it until recently, trying to figure out if it was worth the expense of restoring to the car what it was originally equipped with; previous owner put 4th gen Camaro seats in it.
In a way i'm almost glad it's not one of the 1,321 Recaros produced that year because so many things have already been changed and/or swapped out, plus I've planned a lot of mods to this car. Less guilt now! Thanks for the input.

Post the Trim Code from your cowl plate or if you have it, the label in the console. If you don't know which it is, post what is on your cowl plate.
It has long been a misconception that if it has AQ9 on it, that it is a Recaro. That holds true for '82 ONLY. '83-'84, AQ9 was the Optional Seat; either the Lear Siegler, or the Recaro Seat. If it is a Recaro, there is only one Trim Code that will confirm which seat it originally came with.

My trim code as it appears on the cowl plate is a 64C; I understand that (contingent on the AQ9 rpo) the Recaro trim code on an '84 would be a 643 , yes?

Not only did I have a question about the "AR9" but I was also curious because when I bought my car it was black with gold stripes but the seats were this style in black and grey.

The rpo code for fabric was "19B" INTERIOR TRIM COMBINATION, STANDARD BLACK CLOTH. which would make me think of these seats, but they are from an 82-84 Camaro does anyone else with an 85 Camaro have these seats? if so what code is yours???

Re: What seat is RPO AR9?
Ok I know this thread is only a few days old but I am hoping some of you guys are still around. We just bought a 92 z28 and I also bought the camaro white book and I also googled them but there is nowhere on Gods great internet and 3rd Gen website can i find 95% of my codes!! I have the AR9 but am still confused if I should have it or not due to my readings. Is there a camaro 'GOD' site we can go to? Thanks for the help!!

Re: What seat is RPO AR9?
See the section of the White Book that says "Interior Codes" and a section labeled "Abbreviations" just below it? Standard Cloth would be the standard high back bucket seats. Custom cloth would indicate the upgraded seat with separate headrest. Leather seats were only offered on the upgraded seats.
There are a lot of codes that are only important when buying replacement parts. The white book will cover all the important codes. The obscure codes can usually be found with Google, just keep in mind that GM reuses codes, so unless the definition you find applies to your year, it's probably or possibly not going to be accurate for your application.
