How rare is a 1984 Z28 camaro-convertible-known as the "batmobile"
Hi! I just bought me a red 1984 Z28 camaro-convertible. Do not know anything about the car and I'm dying to find some information on it. Thanks to all of you who will answer. The only thing I found was someone was selling one on the internet and he describes it as "a batmobile". He mentioned that is one in 2500 made: is a 2 seat custom convertible-fiberglass rear deck with a "jaguar stylehardtop" which pivots. It also has a "slapstick".

Others on this board will have more info and details, but they did not make factory Camaro convertibles until 1987. You're car, if it is a 1984, is an aftermarket conversion. I believe the batmobile kit you mentioned was an aftermarket kit...I saw a pick or two of one somewhere on this board. Enjoy the new ride.

There was a beige one in the showroom of Sport Chevrolet back in Dec. 83 when we ordered our Monte Carlo SS. It was the only new one I ever saw. Saw a couple on the road back then, red and black one.
Couldn't really tell you any info about them but were different looking.

Those were converted by ASC IIRC. Not a factory thing at all. It's a T-top car, that's had something else installed on it. (Without any additional bracing at the time, I might add...)
Seems like every one of those I've ever seen was red, starting from the first one I saw in 1984. Makes me wonder if they ever converted any other color!

Hi!
the only two seat conversion done on these cars was by a company called Autoform.
They did not make 2,500. Maybe 250!
I have a brochure for the Firebird model, but not the Camaro.
You can search this website for more info if you need.
I never heard it called a batmobile!
ASC converted four seat conversions, just like they did with the later versions for the factory!
Hope this helps,
George

Im not sure how old this thread is, but I owned one of these beauties! Bought it brand new in 1984 in Arlington Tx. It had the 5.0 H.O. motor that ran hot as hell from day 1. Chevy could never figure out why. Drove it for 5 years... Until it was stolen. Because of the under, cross frame being bent, it was never the same. The conv top was also cut.. to repair correctly, the car needed to go to Cali, that was a NO! Long story short.. traded for an 1987 IROC. Hated it... Traded for a 1990 GT Mustang. Drove that for 13 years!! ❤️
