My car has 0 options. Especially since I cooked the radio/speakers when I plugged the battery on backwards..
But then again, it does have a tan interior, and is cream in colour.. Can't be alot of those.

my 86 Iroc has the "camaro" flash light, cleaned it up put in fresh batteries and it works fine. my 86 also has the clock in the dash(died), overhead console, and the autodim rear view mirror thingy. what about the "CAMARO" interior, only seen a couple online and one in person(my 84 H.O.)
Why don't u try Mecham Design, Performance - Home. I bought replacement decals from them a couple years ago !!!![/QUOTE
I called Dennis already and he said that they don't have any of these Steering Wheels left anymore. The Company was from England and doesn't exist anymore. So that's the problem I have to deal with...
Can anybody help?

even rarer than the aluminum hood
Hey, I have an aluminum hood on my 92 firehawk. Does anyone else have an aluminum hood on their firebird? If so, could you please tell me the part number to the aluminum hood specific hood struts? I have the hood just not the struts....what a quandry.

So let me ask the people who know... How rare is it?
As some of you might have noticed my post in the fabrication section and the vBGarage... I was wondering how rare my car is. It is a 1982 Z28 with a factory installed sun roof. Not dealer installed but factory.
I was told when I purchased the car in 1986 from the original owner that is is one of less the 25 cars that was done at the factory. I have the factory build sheet (window sticker) and it is listed it as an option. I have never seen one of these car with one.
Do any of you know how many were made with this option? Just curious...

Is anyone selling 1982 15" Bowling Ball Hubcaps? I'm looking to buy 1-4 depending on price (I'm a college kid, so I need to be a bit tight on money). I'd like the stock hubcaps with the Pontiac emblem.

How about the 1984 factory sub equipment? They show a high end sound system in the 1984 sales brochure (I think with equalizer, etc), yet I have yet to ever to see a car with it intsalled.

You can find plenty on ebay, for example. Whether you're looking for diecast- Hot Wheels, and larger scale collectibles, plastic cars, radio control, slot cars, battery operated toys, etc. Then, there's so many "Knight Rider" cars, from 1:64 scale on up. Both licensed, and unlicensed. They're out there.
You should see Gilbert Carreon's collection of Trans Am toys. (I don't have a link for his site, but he used to have website with his collection online) It's to die for.

I got to disagree with your post here Phess. I worked at the dealer when the car was delivered and it had the sun roof installed at the factory. I saw it come off the truck at our dealership. I know it was discontinued due to lack of head room about the first month of production. The car was purchased for the owner of the dealer (my boss for 13 years) and has every option available. It even had a block heater in it. It is a California car.

Car: 1983 Camaro Z/28
Engine: LU5 305 CFI

I know it's been mentioned but a running CFI car w/factory composite functional hood.I agree on the hood solenoids. There's been a couple NORS ones on Ebay for $100 to $150.I got lucky and found a working used one for a spare for $20.
Same car has J65/G80/G92/pwr windows/locks/hatch release/mirrors/seat.She had the pwr antenna(found they relay in the kick panel and the wiring under the fender)but someone swapped to a fixed one.T-tops,doeskin (code 64C)custom interior w/deluxe luggage compartment trim w/locking rear compartment and retractable security shade,w/working console clock.Leather shift ball/emergency brake handle and steering wheel that's still all there but was twisted.I swapped the dual needle speedometer(this i have always wondered why since i saw the first one in '82)for 145 mph one. She's beige(code 59) exterior w/gold GFX,gold tri tone emblems(early style with darker gold top bar),gold wheels. She had rear window louvers but all that's left are the upper mounts.Whoever ordered her checked every box but the engine block heater.
And I have a question on the overhead console.Has anyone seen one in a late '83(build date 3rd week of June)?I know everything shows the option starting in '84 but could it be like the L69 option and been a mid-year add on?Mine had the post mounts but was missing the console when I first got her.Found a nice console for her but no flashlight.Same question for the AM stereo/FM stereo/cassette w/5 band EQ.She had it when I got her but the cassette wasn't working and the display was cracked.I've since got one from another member to repair this one. Also found later cupholders to add. It's aggravating on a long drive to have to hold your drink.
She had the structual triangles and the odd braces under the hood(she a Van Nuys car if that made a difference)when I got her.I've swapped the 32mm front bar for the hollow 36mm.And added the TDS"wonderbar" -why use a factory one when this one is better for not much more(and what a difference). All of the smog equipment in place and functional.
I know this stuff isn't rare but it is hard to find.I wish SP list was used in '83.This car would have taken 2 pages.

I agree with Drew: many of parts aren't that rare. Hit the boneyards, which is where I picked up many of the parts listed in my sig. As an example, 1LE drive shafts are listed above. From all that I read on this site and elsewhere, I was led to believe these were indeed rare. Having nothing better to do one day, I started searching the net. I purchased one within 20 minutes for $80. The lightbulb in my noggin flashed on, and long story short, within a matter of months, I'd sold 70 of them on this site--yes, I said 70, all purchased over the net (shoot, I had one SHIPPED to me to $30). I picked up my L69 dual snorkel for $30. Hollow 36/solid 24 sways for $50, Conteur seat for $80, overhead console with flashlight for $50. More recently I did a PBR brake upgrade. I found a 9-bolt with a bent axel tube and bought everything from the flanges out for $100. I sold the backing plates and lines for $65. Darn cheap brakes. Again, hit the boneyards. There are thousands of them and in them thousands of thirdgen cars. Try the following links (these are only a few of the ones I used and there are many, many more):

Also I know we mentioned 1LE parts and I'm not sure if all 1LE's had them or just some but some came with aluminum spares. I haven't found any.

How about the spears that go down the rear quarters for an 87-90 Firebird Convertible... thats rare!
Sam, to answer your question about the PN of the Aluminum Hood, its now out of producion SLP had a stash they were selling them for around $3500 in the day and you had to proove you had a firehawk before they would sell it to you. The Part Number was the same for SOME of the Aluminum hoods, mine was at least.

yep what John said above.. on the struts use worn out steel hood struts..
the hoods had the same pt number as a steel one cause they used the same tooling.
now the box had a diff pt number tho!!! thats what Jim Mattison told me anyway..

Just checked the hood on my '82 TA with a magnet to see if it was aluminum...unfortunatley it is steel. In fact there is a date of 1983 and what looks like an RPO code stamped on the underside of it. Someone must have changed it at some point.

I just snagged this off the Ebag. I understand they made less than 200 T-Rams for the 92 Firehawks? Looks to be pretty complete.

1LE in Boneyard?
I may have possibly found a 1LE in a bonyard near my house... it is missing anything that would have an RPO code but it is Air conditioning delete, rear discs, and L98 car. I pulled the backing plates for rear discs and 3.42 posi, but don't want to waste these parts on my '91 RS that is in fair condition. Anybody want them? If not they will be on ebay in a few days. one backing plate is slightly bent but can be fixed easily... the moron with the loader dropped the car on it's caliper seeing as all the bozos at the yard wanted were the rear disks themselves.

Unfortunately not... some doof with a lumina pulled all the good stuff like that, apparently the cool thing to do these days is cannibalize rare camaros to upgrade turbo luminas. I wanted to hit him in the face with an axle shaft... there are spare 145 mph speedos from 89 or older though in the back seat.

I removed the aluminum spare tire rim from my IROC back in 93 to make room for a highend sound system. I thought all Camaros had them. Good thing i didnt scrap it. Its safely stowed in its original spot!

Hehehe, scored a set for $35 at a juckyard. I was undre the impresion the all 87 up formula hoods were aluminum with steal bracing. Are the Firehawks ALL aluminum?? I know that my 87 hood is a heck of a lot lighter than an 82 T/A hood.

Re: Rare Camaro / Firebird parts
THere are some differences from year to year on the Formula/82-84 TA hood, most of them are cosmetic. THere was an aluminum hood option in 1982, not sure of the extent of how long it was offered tho. Some of the differences in the hood are on top where the lines (that form a "V") some hoods the lines are crisp whereas some others have a rounded look. On the bottom side there are 2 rounded out areas on the front edge, some of the early hoods do not have these. Little minor things that if you did not study them most people would not notice. I suspect it was due to 2 suppliers making the hoods, like the Glass, the Van Nuys cars may have a different parts supplier than the Norwood cars.
Why some hoods are lighter... thats beyond me. As for having an aluminum skin with Steel underside, thats asking for problems as Steel & Aluminum are not compatible as Aluminum sacrifices itself to save the steel from rusting.

Re: Rare Camaro / Firebird parts
Nope, The STOCK Formula hoods were all steel, (except the 3 or so that went on the Firehawks.
The Firehawk Race cars- Yes, probably more than likely, the Firehawk 91 & 92 production model... I think only a few (3 comes to mind) got the Aluminum hood or somthing along those lines... I KNOW that #1 did not originally have the aluminum hood. When I looked at #1 & #26 #26 had the alunimum hood #1 did not. Bruce Hawkins Car I believe does not have the Aluminum hood.

I'll have to go back to the database to be sure, but I believe there were originally 11 of the 25 Firehawks w/ Aluminum hoods . Only 9 official Comp cars (all of them had Aluminum Hoods.) One car originally had an Alum hood (and Recaro seat) but was switched out by SLP and now has a regular steel hood and standard interior. The other aluminum hood, non comp car is #26. Bruce has the steel hood on the green car.
Both of the IMSA Firehawk Race cars had aluminum hoods. Only one car is left....apparently the white one died in a crash.
The Aluminum hoods have a large raised "A" to the lower right of the part number on the hood. The "A" is about an inch tall.

Re: Rare Camaro / Firebird parts
I'm sure Firehawk number 1 HAD the aluminum hood.
It was removed when SLP removed all the comp parts.SLP saved the orginal hood.(I was told)
It still had the aluminum hood struts on it when I looked at it at the T/A nats a few years ago.
Not all the aluminum hoods have the "A". I know for a fact as I have one.
The aluminum hoods have the PT # for the steel hood because they used the same press for the parts and so they could pass tech at the races. Thats y the "A" isnt on all of them.
Jim Mattison told me that.
The BOX they came in has the aluminum hood PT#.
I know the white TTOP Hawk has a aluminum hood. I have seen the car in person.

Re: Rare Camaro / Firebird parts
I got to disagree with your post here Phess. I worked at the dealer when the car was delivered and it had the sun roof installed at the factory. I saw it come off the truck at our dealership. I know it was discontinued due to lack of head room about the first month of production. The car was purchased for the owner of the dealer (my boss for 13 years) and has every option available. It even had a block heater in it. It is a California car.

"85-89 Factory sub equipment, Performance Sound radio trim plate, subwoofer gain switch for dash, Factory amplifier and the actaul enclosers with speakers."
I never knew that was desirable. I had a 1984 Z28 H.O. with that system.
And I have the CD player for my 91 stock but it seems to skip and fuzz alot when it's cold, maybe it's time for it to be refurbished.

Hey T-towner, it looks like your greyish hawk has body molding down the side but the red doesn't. Did you remove them or was it a delete of some kind? Very nice cars none the less. I'd really like to see them sometime.
Nope, The STOCK Formula hoods were all steel, (except the 3 or so that went on the Firehawks.
Why some hoods are lighter... thats beyond me. As for having an aluminum skin with Steel underside, thats asking for problems as Steel & Aluminum are not compatible as Aluminum sacrifices itself to save the steel from rusting.

John[/QUOTE HMMMM thanks for the info. I don't understand it either. I know that when I close the hood on the 88 and 91 camaro, there is a "THUNK", and you know it's closed. My 85 T/A was the same way, but the formula sounds different when you close it. Maybe I'm not describing it right, but they "sound" different. If you tap on a camaro hood it feels more solid then the formy hood too. That's why I thought they did something funky with the formula. Then again, maybe the kid that I bought it from did something to it. Anywho, sorry, got off topic.

Good eye! The B4U firehawks (red ones) do not have the body moldings, #26 was not originally ordered as a Firehawk, it was taken off the lot and converted.
