The 90 iroc
does any one know production numbers on the 90 iroc. i have been told that they only produced 1200 irocs in 90 with a 350. Is this true? I also hear they only produces about 5000 total irocs in 90. Then agian i have heard that they did not produce any irocs in 90 that all the 90 model irocs were made in 89. can some one please help clear this up.

From what I understand there were 4213 Z28/IROCs, 62 1LEs, 1294 IROC convertibles.
The rarest of the 90 cars is the RS convertible with only 729 being made.

The production figures above are correct. And as unusual as it may sound, there were zero 1990 Camaros produced in 1990. They were all produced in 1989. To clarify, Chevrolet lost their affiliation with the IROC racing series effective January 1, 1990. Therefore, Chevy could not legally produce IROC-Z's in 1990, so production of the 1990 Camaro halted on December 31, 1989. Then the 1991 Camaro was introduced in April, 1990, about six months early to cover the gap.

Let me share an interesting piece of trivia with you. You are absolutely right about the production figure, but I bet you didn't know that there was one regular production third generation Camaro (not Z28 or IROC-Z) that Chevrolet offered the 5.0 TPI as an optional engine. (Not a B4C -- notice I said "regular production"?) The car was a 1990 RS convertible!! Yep, some lucky fool could have specially ordered this car with a 5.0 TPI, but no one did. Therefore, it was never built. If I'd know then what I know now.... Hindsight is 20/20....

I would have to say in this instance rare doesn't make them any more valuable, at least in my case. Since I have a 90 RS convertible. I had considered swapping the badging to Iroc, but decided against it for several reasons, the 1 of 729 being one. Willie, I don't know why they would have offered the TPI as an option in the RS convertible, as it is one of the few things besides the hood, badging & posi that differentiate them. I was surprised to find out the 110 speedo & 5K redline tach are common to Iroc & RS convertibles.

lonsal, your car may not have much value now but it will when the thirdgens start to be collectibles. That is one car I plan to add to my collection when I find the right one. I have plenty of time to look because it will be a least 10 to 15 more years before they start to become valuable (in my opinion).

Chuck, you won't want mine. I upgraded the suspension and swapped out the 2.73 open diff for a 3.45 posi disc. A 350 TPI and WC T5 swap is in the works. I enjoy my car too much to want to bubble wrap it in the hopes that it will become a collectors item. Yes I think it is and will will continue to be a desirable car to own though. I still get compliments on a regular basis. 8^) Lon http://www.sc3gfb.org/members/lonsal.html
