Any one own an '87 Z28 convertible? Is this a rare car (or is it well done)?

It is a rare car. There were only 744 87 IROC/Z28's produced. The Z28 was probably the rarer of the two.

Some dude from Arizona that comes to this board occasionally might have an old clapped out beater sitting around
In all seriousness, you came to the right place. Willie (Dude mentioned above) has a beautiful 87 Z convert, and he knows more about them than General Motors does.

he knows willie... i think he want toknow if there are anymore out there besides the ones willie has found. That can't be all of them. There has to be more and they are either junked, or thepeople that drive them just drive them and have nothing to do with the boards...

Oh yea! I didn't notice that it was Tim asking the question. That's what I get for trying to be intelligent and humerous so early in the morning

Jim,
Tim and I are good friends. He's asking because his in-laws bought my metallic blue '87 Z28 convertible. I have confirmed the existence of nine of these, and his in-law's is the only blue one.
Jason,
Although there were only 744 produced, most by far came with the IROC-Z option. That makes the true bona-fide Z28 much rarer.
The '87 Z28 (and IROC-Z) came with only two drivetrain combinations: 1) LG4/Automatic and 2) 305 TPI/5-speed. The ad you saw is an IROC-Z with an LG4/automatic, which is the most common of the 744. Rarer would be the IR0C-Z with TPI/5-speed. Much rarer would be a Z28 with LG4/automatic (like Tim's in-laws). The rarest is a Z28 with a TPI/5-speed. I have confirmed two of these -- one is mine.

Whoops, sorry Willie. I didn't seem to notice he was asking about Z28s only, not just '87s

I have seen one advertised on dealsonwheels.com for awhile but can't find it now. It had only a few thousand miles on it and was red. It looked very nice. If I can find the picture again, I'll let you know.

The car you're referring to might be one I'v already confirmed. It is located in Omaha, Nebraska. It has only 7,500 miles on it and is red with silver rockers and red striping. It also has a super rare red leather interior. It is an LG4/automatic.
