If we are talking about 1LEs with A/C, don't forget all of the B4U 91 & 92 Firehawks had A/C and were all 1LE.

As far as being "rare" in reality when you add up all the years from 1988-1992, I would bet at least half of the 1LE cars had A/C... BUT almost all of those with A/C were the B4C Special Service Cars... I am not sure if the Players cars could have gotten A/C or not....

I almost wonder if that is why ed Hamburger was using the Formula... Because it was one way to get A/C and 1LE... Oddly enough, he removed the brakes anyways on many of them for the Brembo brakes, so it seemed like a waste if you are taking something off... Kind of like the T-tops and the 350 was only available on the Formula in 91 & 92...

I'd think there was some decision also made in part by Pontiac/GM. Pontiac had to decide what the package for B4U was going to be and by deciding this was mandated to red/Formula/350/hardtop/1LE only, then at least from Pontiac's point of view, this was their top of the line performance oriented model, that in turn also suited SLP's needs as a base.

I agree, there was probably a lot that went into the decision, IE the Formula was the "GTO" of the day, a Performance Bargain, The Formula was lighter, Faster, etc. I think the Red may have been originally due to the fact that they were offering the Aluminum hood, since they would be removing and replacing the hoods, it would probably be less headache to not have multiple color hoods... In the end lack of sales basically made it so the other colors could be used, a last ditch effort to sell something they decided to let the White, Blue, Green & Jade cars to be made (which were all dealer cars). Ultimately the last car (the convertible) I think was also just a Dealer model that was shipped to SLP to be converted, thus the only "Trans Am"

Yes, and the 1,555 TTA cars were all labelled 1LE, and they all had air too.

None of the Players cars had AC. They were all equipped the same.

In all honesty, the Firehawk, and the TTA were not technically "factory cars" insofar as they were not made at THE factory. Like the Convertibles they were farmed out to another company, albeit with RPO codes, to be converted. So you could argue that they may not qualify.

But you add the B4C Special service cars, and I still bet that you would have more 1LEs with A/C than without.

The TTA cars were not labeled with RPO 1LE on the SPID, the only part of the 1LE package installed was the front brake system.
