questions regarding exported cars

im stationed in germany and i was searching on the ebay.de site and found this

http://cgi.ebay.de/Pontiac-Trans-AM-...d=p3286.c0.m14

if a goto translate.google.com you can put in the link and translate it. it says it has 22900 km and the photo of the gauges show it has a kmh speedo with a small mph scale, so i wonder if it is still miles or kilometers on the odom. ( cause then it would have only 14k miles...). also would it have metric gauges like Celsius temp and kPa oil press.? how many were exported and is info of this available anywhere? what i am really getting at is would this be worth the 6900 euro (or 10K) for it? it has such low miles and is so very clean... also would it (besides the gauges) be the exact same as a US version and be able to be brought back to the US when i get sent back with no problems for importation? thank you for any and all input.

Re: questions regarding exported cars

i think some of the exported cars had different emissions systems due to differing laws. dont know what the differences are or if they will pass emissions testing in the states. canada dont have emissions testing so i have no idea how it all works, just that it exists.

Re: questions regarding exported cars

Dude,

It has been retarded quiet tonight at work, been running the pinouts on an 85 wiring harness to see if it'll work in my car LOL. But I took a break and did some digging. Take a look at the last post here:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...i-engines.html

This post seems to deal mostly with Canada, but check it out anyway, might have some customs info for ya:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/thir...ck-across.html

Here is a Army guy that lives in Germany now, maybe he can help you out?
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...c-germany.html

And I found THIS little gem, just by doing a quick look-see, I think it may be a huge help:
http://www.hqusareur.army.mil/opm/cars.htm

From what I gander, the best thing to do is check the car for EGR, 02 sensor, and AIR pump/Cat. Like we discussed earlier, I can't see the rest of the car being too different; they were all built on the same lines. It'd actually be funny if that 91 TA was built right before or after my vert LOL.

Re: questions regarding exported cars

I think due to the age it should not be a problem importing the car. You may be able to import it into the US, but depending on where you go IE California you may have to have the car emissions tested and it may not meet emissions in some areas. I do seem to remember that Porsche wanted to import the 959 in the 80's but could not because they did not want to total some to see if they would meet requirements. So Bill Gates had to wait several years before he could actually get his car....

I would definitely check into it, and not take my word for it, but I would not see why there would be many problems as the car should be basically the same car as the one that was intended for the US. you might have to install a catalytic converter or something along those lines to make it legal...
