1990 Chevrolet Camaro RS, desirable/rare?

I have a 1990 Chevrolet Camaro RS with 69,000 miles on it.

As you probably know it is one of 34,986 Camaros for the 1990 Half Production Year.

But I've always wondered just how desirable/rare it was, could anyone point me in the right direction with this?

VIN: (Which I know by Heart ) 1G1FP23T0LL117029

Options List:

AJ3
AR9
C41
D3V
D35
D8E
D80
E5Z
E9Z
FE1
GU5
J41
K60
LH0
MD8
MXO
NA5
NK3
N90
QPH
UB3
UM7
UQ1
U79
VAN
VK3
V73
WW8
W62
Y86
IAY
1SA
6XR
7XR
73B
81P
8IU
9UY

I know that UM7, the Radio, was only ran for 1098 units in 1990, and something like 13,000 Camaros were V6's for that year. And something like 95% had T-Tops, which mine does not. But I would love to hear what other people have to say about this option sheet and vehicle info I've listed here.

All numbers are matching and the car is 100% original, well except for tires and engine componets and such, it had many of the original engine parts on it when I bought it. I've replaced the sensors and such.

This car is my first car and I bought it for $1,350 and it had 56,000mi on it when i got it.

The car is in great mechanical condition and everything works except the cigarette lighter. There is little to no rust, and the rust that exists is surface rust, and it just chipping the paint on the underbody of the car, and no where else, no rust on the body or doors. The interior is nearly perfect, except for a small tear on the drivers seat, and no headliner. But other than that all it needs is some fresh paint and its to factory spec.

Let me know what you think!

Re: 1990 Chevrolet Camaro RS, desirable/rare?

This is what it says......

There are 5 (0.015%) with the RPO codes you selected.

So I guess its pretty rare after all. Not really desirable, but who would want to order a V6 like mine? I'm just glad to have one.

What do you guys have to say about it? I can put up some more pics too.

Re: 1990 Chevrolet Camaro RS, desirable/rare?

I think you got a pretty decent deal on the car, but being an RS with a 3.1 it's very low on the totem pole of desireability. For the mileage and condition, the price was definitely right.

Looks like a nice car you got. No Air conditioning is definatly unusual for a '90, Rare Yes, but desirable, probably not, but it looks like a nice original car and certainly worth keeping. Chris

THANK YOU!!!

I posted something similar to this in the V6 forum because my car is a V6 and all i got was a H3LL storm of people telling me I'm stupid and fooling myself thinking that this car does not have any rare aspects about it. I know to many its not very desirable, but to those with similar V6's and maybe even I-4's then the reaction would be different.

The fact of the matter is that there are many many "rare" third gens out there, and mine in its own unique way is "rare" by the definition, and by the service parts identification sheet.

I'm glad that I found someone that at least understand what I mean when I ask for rarity and desirability.

THANK YOU!!!

Re: 1990 Chevrolet Camaro RS, desirable/rare?

In the V6 forum, the title of your thread was specifically "How Desirable would you rate my Camaro? Just curious....."

You specifically asked how desirable people would rate your Camaro. They did. Honestly, I seen you mixed rare and desirability throughout this. People were mainly rating and commenting on your car's desirability, as you specifically asked, and because you specifically gave figures about the radio being among some of rarest radios available, the 1990 model year being the "rarest" due to ~35K units being built, etc. I think people got the impression that you were "selling" your car as being quite rare and desirable. This is why I stated that rare does not mean desirable. I have one of those vehicles, so it's nothing personal.

The majority in that thread appeared to be on the same page and gave you their opinion that you asked - which is the car isn't quite desirable as an RS with a V6. Understandably, I don't think you liked the responses.

We see many people come here, over the years, that get caught in the numbers. Many also confuse rare as being desirable. I feel that is what happened here, and thus, you got the response that you did.

I don't want this thread to get locked as well. But I don't think it's fair to suggest the people in the v6 forum were completely at fault.

Many, including myself, said you appeared to get a good deal on a good condition Third Gen with decent mileage - v6 or not. I've got a few V6s/I4s (not in Third Gens) myself. The Turbo Trans Ams used a V6.

The issue appeared to come with the perception of "selling" the car as being rare and desirable - words you specifically used when you asked for people to rate the "desirability" of the car, then provided figures about the model year and radio system once people started replying that the car isn't (in their opinion) desirable.

Good luck!

That is a beautiful car. I'm glad to hear that you have a V6 and are proud of it. This site needs to hear more of that. The "slam a V8 into "er" and you're good to go" really has gotten old. I'll probably get flamed for it, but after all, why are ******, hillbilly and a whole lot of other words automatically deleted.

Re: 1990 Chevrolet Camaro RS, desirable/rare?

6 cylinders make great beaters, parts cars, donor cars, project cars, etc. There's no value that is thrown out the window with an engine swap or whatever. If you need proof that a V6 will never be worth anything, just look at current classic cars. The 6 cyl versions are worth a fraction of a real V8, and fakes are worth more then stock 6 cylinders.

It's easy to pick on the V6 people on thirdgen.org. They're the ones with the huge chip on their shoulders and dreams of going fast. 90% of the time it's a bunch of talk and it goes no where. If they didn't act like jackasses with their boldfaced ignorance, they wouldn't such easy targets.

Very good looking every day driver, good gas mileage, and you got a great price on that car. Never be a 'collector car', but then I doubt that few third gen cars ever will be.

There are 3 1990 CAMARO RS 2 DR vehicles (0.009%) matching your exact options list. There are 4 (0.012%) with at least as many options.

mine wins.

Re: 1990 Chevrolet Camaro RS, desirable/rare?

Using the logic from this thread, then my 1992 firebird is about as rare as you can get: probably a 1 of 1 car! It came from the factory with a v8 gage cluster, even though the car is a 3.1liter V6. I always wondered why the tach was way off, but it never really bothered me, since I have an automatic. One day, I took the gage cluster out when I had to change the ignition switch, and lo-and-behold, it was labeled a v8 cluster! And, No, it has not been changed. I've owned the car since new, and this is the gage cluster that was in it when I picked it up at the dealership on February 1, 1992, with 6 miles showing on the odometer.

That,of course, doesn't make my car valuable or desirable at all, it's just an interesting conversation piece.

I certainly hope I'm not lumped in with the 90%. I shopped for (and bought) my v6 because I don't have the desire to drive fast. I like the way the car looks, I have fun fixing them up and keeping them running, but have no delusions that my car is fast. I do like the v6 when mated with the 5 speed, but it's still not fast, but it sure is fun

I do think that eventually the 3rd gens will see their day as a collectable, but only the kept-stock ones

And that is where the 90% of the V6 sub-forum members come in. They'll argue for days that their gas mileage is better and weight balance is better, and all with no knowledge of anything except what they own.

I think you're fine as long as you don't start trash talking V8's or talking about being faster then V8's after a "complete" tune up, or for that matter considering a timing chain as part of a tune up. Day dreaming out-loud about a turbo install, or some "super V6 build-up" is also such a common occurrence over there that it becomes really comical.

The stereotype doesn't apply to you anymore then the Mull et stereotype applies to everyone on this forum, but it's still present and like any stereotype it's got roots in reality.

The funny part is that while we are all running each other down about V8 vs V6, and Camaro vs Firebird, is that after 20+ years, in the current real world of performance cars it comes across as "my hamster is faster than your gerbil."

So, just enjoy the cars.

Welcome to the party... Various features of the Compnine website are obviously wrong... The invoice date, and rpo's are probably correct (definitions aren't right much of the time though) but I ignore all of the rarity crap.

When my 1990 V6 starts getting made fun of for her lack of performance and muscle by the V8s, her half-brother 2001 Chevy Corvette just steps in in her defense. Works every time.

Except most of the time the V8 owners don't pick on V6 owners... It's the V6 owners with a huge chip on the shoulder talking about picking on V8's.

Are we serious? I posted the above in an attempt to make light of how ridiculous this thread has gotten. My V6 is better than your V8, my V8 is better than your V6...who cares???

, I've had the pleasure of meeting countless V8 owner that think they got something to prove and most have no idea about cars. Lets just face it there are asses on both sides and be done with it. Don't argue over who has the less *** holes, it's not something to brag about.

P.S. stop with the Back to Topic smiley faces, do you really think that's going to help?
