1991 Z-28 Newbie with code help plz

Well, I had talked myself into NOT getting this car before I even saw it but with 45,000 original miles and great options I had to get this Z. It is the first one I have ever owned as I am a 1970's Buick Gran Sport kinda guy but I think that Vette 350 will help me forget those!

Sorry I cut some of it off but can anyone help with these codes?

Really looks well optioned with power red seats, auto hatchback lock, cruise and power everything else. Might even be a little rare this well optioned?

Thanks in advance for the Code Masters help

Nice Camaro! There are 1 1991 CAMARO RS 2 DR vehicles (0.001%) matching your exact options list. There are 2 (0.002%) with at least as many options.

Is that SLP exhaust? Any other SLP parts? The runners look stock.

If you back out to the home page (www.thirdgen.org) there's a RPO decoder link in the menu. That will give you more accurate definitions of your RPO codes.

Just scanning through your SPID I see all the hot dog options I look for... 350 TPI, G92 performance package, GU5 3.23 gears, G80 posi, FE2 HD suspension... Then the option code 1SD tells me it's a fairly loaded car with lots of comfort options. Good score!

It looks a bit dirty. I'd give it a very careful detail and it should be a nice car. I was thinking the same thing, that does look like a SLP catback, but from that angle it's hard to tell. Some SLP options were pushed at the time as over the counter upgrades at the dealerships, but the 'two on the left' catback was available up until recently, and could have been added at any point.

Good find! Car looks in great shape with low miles. Wet vac the interior and quick engine scrubbing will do wonders. Car basically has all options you could have for 1991. Don't trust compnine website numbers. There database is incomplete and GM never kept track of option combos per car sold.

GM produced 100,838 Camaros in 1991 with 12,452 being Z28 coupes (12.3%). Of those only 6,080 cars recieved 5.7L v-8. So out of 100,838 cars, only 6% came with 5.7L v-8.

They have 89K VINs in the 1991 Camaro section, which makes it fairly extensive against the 100K figure above. Their 1990 Camaro database is considered "complete".

GM may not have kept track of option combos per car, but that doesn't matter. Because Compnine has the amount of VINs in their database that they do, which in this case is 89K for the 1991 Camaro mode year, they can compare a model year VIN against the others of the same model year. In this case, 89K VINs of 100K is a considerable size. Still, of course, there is a margin of error and I don't know of any concrete source that doesn't have any margin of errors or has been proven inaccurate in one way or another.

actually its not a vette 350
vettes had aluminum heads
the L98s for Camaros have cast iron heads
designated B2L for the package and engine
along with other options etc
except for the two 25th anniversary prototypes
they have the aluminum corvette heads

how much did you pay for your Z ?
and how much did the old man charge your friend?

Re: 1991 Z-28 Newbie with code help plz

Hey guys,

Thanks ALLOT for all the info, I really appreciate it. I have been working on all my junk to pay off the loan (hate owing money) for the Z and didn't see your posts until right now.

So this is one of 1 or 2% of the cars optioned like this? Wow!

Thanks for the info on the posi, performance package, gears and HD suspension package info too!

Now I can tell my buddy it isn't a "Vette motor" like he kept telling me, I didn't think that sounded right.

I don't know what the exhaust is to tell you the truth. He was trying to show me the power latch on the hatchback and the battery was dead so when he manually closed the hatch I noticed the pipe shook a little so I doubt it is factory unless a clamp has come loose, and also the pipes looked fairly new but car was stored insdie up until a year or two ago so basically "I know that I don't know"

I cannot wait to detail it when things warm up. The paint is completely solid and only needs a good waxing and I could not find a single, tear, rip, leak, discoloration or speck of dirt for tha matter in the red heavy cloth interior.Carpet is perfect to. I still cannot believe all the options, I mean it is LOADED!

Only issue it has is the fuel pump is bad and I understand the tank has to be dropped for that so will be awhile before I hear my new babies howl!

Thank you again for all the kind words and encouragement, and look forward to being a regular around here

Don't get too excited, that particular website says just about every thirdgen is 1 of 1, or 1 of 2. Taking every single RPO into combination, there aren't all that many identical cars out there, but for the most part the options that make these cars unique are rather insignificant. It's a desirable car, but the options that make it desirable were installed on more then 1 or 2 cars.

I hear ya Drew, the Buick guys do the same thing "Well my cigar lighter **** has a "genuine, simulated, plastic" wood grain decal instead of cheap black plastic insert, SOoooooo it is one of one!" woo hoo!

I figured there were a bunch of them pretty close to my Z, I am just trying to stoke myself to get my loan paid off by at least "thinking" it is kind of unique.

I have a ton of work to do on old "junkers" to make them ready to sell so I need all the positive energy I can get, but don't worry I won't be bragging around how rare mine is or anything, just a really cool, and hopefully fast (needs fuel pump) car with some great options is all I am looking for and if it has a neat option or two that much the better.

Re: 1991 Z-28 Newbie with code help plz

Not trying to burst anyone's bubble, but the car is not that rare. There were MANY cars that were fully optioned from the factory.

My car came with every available option that you could get from factory with the exception of 2. Mine did not have leather or t-tops. But, it has every other option that was available in 1991. I have seen many other cars optioned the same as mine and yours.

Besides the 1-LE's and B4C cars, the only other rare optioned camaros were the completely stripped out Z-28's. Most of the Z's came fully loaded or at least with some options.

It's more rare that you found a clean stock Z28 with low miles. GM only made that style of car for two years. Good luck on your other cars.

Blackdog36,

Well like "1bad91Z" said it must be VERY common and all of them came this way, so I will go with the "it is clean and low mileage and was only made a couple years positive comment you came up with.

Thanks man
