That is about the same price as it was new in 1989! Not really a bad deal for one.

I didn't notice what # it was though, in the sequence of the TTAs built.

Beautiful car. I couldn't own it though. After all these years and it has under 500 miles! I would feel bad driving the thing which is what I would do with it.

I've seen like 5-6 in the past year missing the fender emblems, but nothing else. Does someone know if these suckers fall off easy or something? I couldn't stand to have that car and not drive it...I drove my IROC that many miles from June-October this year!

Many of the TTA's were delivered to the dealers and sold before the Turbo Emblems were finished by the manufacturer.
PAS sent the emblems to the dealers along with a template for installation and a check to cover the dealer's cost of installing them.

Thats a very nice car! But 33k seems really high for that car. I can see it in the 20k range.

Re: 465 Mile Turbo GTA :)

Does anybody know if the rear leather seats in the 1989 GTA hatchbacks came with the style of head rests this car has? I've seen that same style head rest in the rear seats of 1988 GTA notchbacks with leather seats. Don't know if all GTA leather rear seats of that '88 and '89 era both notch backs and hatch backs had the same head rests.

TTAs & Notchbacks only got those rear seats. Standard GTAs got "regular" rear seats, just in leather.

Re: 465 Mile Turbo GTA :)

That mileage on THAT car definitely warrants that price. I know many will argue that no 3rd gen is worth that kind of money, but this car is limited in production to only 1555, was the Indy Pace Car, has low miles and was the fastest production 3rd gen produced. At what point will people start believeing that special cars are worth the money being asked?

Because I'm saying this doesn't mean I can afford it either. These cars were expensive when new and only an elite 1555 owners could afford them. So I see nothing keeping this car from maintaining that status 22 years later.

Mine only had 2K on them when one blew apart. If that thing hit the street at any speed, I wouldn't have the original Gatorbacks on them at all.

Its amazing how I consider myself to be pretty damn knowledegable about these cars, and yet I continue to learn something new every day around here

Before I bought my IROC I was looking at a 28k mile, seemingly-clean TTA, and shied away a little because the online pics showed those logos were missing. To me, that was like improperly placed IROC logos...it just looked messed with, which is something I didn't want for the kind of money you pay for these things.

Re: 465 Mile Turbo GTA :)

I'd pay $34k for that car. It would be a tough call though between this one at $34k and that 10k mile '90 1LE IROC for $34k (not that I could afford either). Most thirdgens are liabilities, but this one's an investment.

I have no delusions over which one is the better deal or worth more, but it would still be a tough choice being I'm more of a Camaro guy, and have little taste for tan interiors, no matter the car's status.

But that car is beautiful, and I'd love to own it.

On closer inspection, it almost looks like the front clip has been repainted, particularly the driver's side.

Re: 465 Mile Turbo GTA :)

Call me crazy, I still don't like white thirdgens, I don't like tan interiors, and I don't like gold accents on white thirdgens with tan interiors. It just seems like it's trying too hard. They end up looking gaudy, but still bland. That and regardless of real world performance, bragging rights, etc a V6 in a performance car just seems wrong.

Being that the TTA was an instant classic, there are probably more of them in nearly identical, preserved condition, stored away, then anything else. There's nothing unique about any of them, if you've seen one you've seen them all. I've seen at least three of them in person and they all could have been the same car FWIW. Boring.

Re: 465 Mile Turbo GTA :)

That's a good point, Drew--because of the value of the original muscle cars, a lot of people "know better" now and stash away any late model muscle car, so ultra low mileage isn't nor will be as appealing or valuable as it would be to find a 400 mile original '60s car, because back then people bought them and drove them, never expecting them to be desirable later--just look at the number of thirdgens that have barely seen daylight for sale now; same applies to any late Shelby Mustang, ZR-1, etc.

My take on it is that in 20 years, you'll find the same number if not more ultra-low mileage examples of any given model...let's face it--nobody buys a ZR-1 for a daily driver today like they would've back in the '60s.

Ultra-low mileage is nice, but super museum piece low mileage like this to the point the car has never and will never be enjoyed in a market filled with similar cars is pointless.

That said, I'd still let it sit in my garage but I'd rather have a 20k mile Iroc I can drive occasionally for 5-6 hours at a time on a cruise night and not feel like it was the end of the world.

With this TTA, you just have to buy it realizing wheel time should be basically zero as it's an historical investment, and you have to be ok with that.

Re: 465 Mile Turbo GTA :)

I appreciate TTAs for their histroical value, but I agree that most of them are pretty much the same thing, and most are well preserved but hardley driven. I saw one locally once however that was in about as good shape as my 91', which surprised the heck out of me. It was obviously taken care of, but had about 77,xxx miles on it, with some clearcoat wear and some interior stains. I was more impressed to see a TTA that was enjoyed and driven often, rather than yet another perfect Turbo Trans Am.

Re: 465 Mile Turbo GTA :)

A few months ago, I purchased an all original B4C. It had about 11k miles on it and smells new inside. When I purchased it, I drove it 1000 miles home. I then moved and put another 500 on it, and now I switch off daily driving it with my truck. Supposedly it had never seen rain... that changed. I don't feel bad at all putting miles on it; some people say old cars belong in a museum, but I say they belong on the road.

I have 20K miles on my NON TTA and I will keep it nice. BUT I will drive it < 1000 miles a year! I worry someone will hit it or I will wreck it some day. I will keep low miles on it and can understand that desire but again, it must be enjoyed.

Re: 465 Mile Turbo GTA :)

Just because it has low miles doesn't mean you can't drive it. Mine sat at 600 miles for the first 6 years of its life. I sold it with over 35K on the clock. While it looked stock, it wasn't. It hit the track regularly and would click off low-mid 11's every time after the first year of owning it. Didn't have too many mods on it to run the number either. Turbo, injectors, down pipe, cat back, converter, and alky injection were the main mods.

I wish I still had it but now its a show/pleasure car up in Rhode Island. I have no problem with that. Heck I showed it also. Inside the Corvette Museum at the 35th F-Body show, best 3rd gen at the F-Body event in Memphis, and the local cruise ins in Maryland.

Drive 'em and enjoy 'em. Low mileage just means you get to "use" them more

All true, but I've never heard of the check part. Where did you acquire this bit of info?

When I picked up the fender emblems from the dealer (a month after the car was purchased) they offered to install them, but never said for free or otherwise. I declined as the car was more of a sleeper without them and this is how the car "truly" came from Pontiac / PAS. Because of this and the fact that only the first 300 TTA's or so came with the fender emblems installed, I find it hard to believe that PAS would send out 1,250 payments for services unknown to be rendered.

But I've been wrong before.
