probably not, under hood is bone stock, even with AC and smog. Looks like a regular production car with some paint and stickers.
overpriced in my option.
not sure why its not street legal, all it needs from what im seeing is seat belts and working lights and its a street car

From a History standpoint, an original IMSA would be nice to have, but by it not having IMSA fenders & quarters, I gotta wonder if he is stretching its originality.
Stock bodied IMSA? I can't really doubt that there were some. I have no idea. Just with the IMSA name, my first thought is the flared fenders & quarters.

Re: Could this be the deal of the century???
Looks like a "street" car took racing. The A/C means it wasn't a race spec'd car. The cars ordered for Firehawk or Players were pretty specific, although I'm sure you could race any car in later years. Most of the players cars ended up in other races.
It might be a 1LE car ... although I doubt it based on the pictures.
A car with racing history is somewhat cool. The stories are always great.

Re: Could this be the deal of the century???
That does make sense about it not being one because of the fenders not being flared and so on. But still not badly priced for having about 10,000 original miles. If it doesnt have any racing history then just repaint it back to the stock color (which appears to be white) and no one would know that it wasnt an all original 10k car. Plus you would hve to remove the roll cage and fire supression but I would keep it for the added protection probably.

Re: Could this be the deal of the century???
An interesting side point. Notice the Valve covers... It may mean nothing, But, the production LB9's and L98's had the Silver Valve covers, the LO3 and LG4 had the Black painted valve covers...
This car obviously has Black Valve Covers... The GM Motor Sports Engines had the Black Valve covers with yellow dots... At least some of them did.
This may be the real deal...

Re: Could this be the deal of the century???
Or... it could be a run of the mill Camaro with 140,000 miles that someone built into a race car 10,000 miles ago. I'd want to see documentation to support the sales pitch before investing.
Judging from the body/description, it'd just about have to be a 90 Iroc to fit everything. It'd be interesting to see the VIN and the RPO codes.

looks like some BS to me. Look the the fenders in the race car picture, they are blue and in the engine shot, they are white. Same situation with the pillars

Re: Could this be the deal of the century???
I found this expired ebay ad with lots of pics and a little more info on what looks like the same car (other than the engine bay pic in the craigslist ad) with the same mileage.

The Ebay Ad has AC delete, the Craigslist shows AC.
The Ebay Ad shows overspray in the engine bay, the CL does not.
The Ebay Ad shows a air filter on the front of the plenum... The CL ad shows a stock setup...
I am on board with the "Sumptin's Fishy"
JWS, Thanks for the link.

Re: Could this be the deal of the century???
The car had a VIN at one time it was probably removed the plate for racing purposes so that it could not be driven on the street... I know that in some cases with the Firehawk series they removed the VIN...Firehawk RACECAR with the Number 86 (6) that Greg owns had the VIN removed also (not one of the 25). In some cases they left the VIN decals on the fenders and such, but I am not sure about anywhere else...

Re: Could this be the deal of the century???
That's really funny. Between those sets of pics (ebay/craigslist) half the equipment under the hood changed. Including the valve covers (engine swap?). Yeah I'll bet that "This came off the factory assembly line and was made for Firestone Firehawk Series." with Firebird seats, and a Pontiac steering wheel. I still think someone took a beat to hell, run of the mill Camaro and took it racing on weekends. Overall the car looks trashed. With no documentation to support that it's REALLY the car in the vintage racing pic, it's just another trashed Camaro that someone painted up to look like a race car they saw in a magazine. I could go pull an RS out of a junkyard, mangle all the serial numbers, paint it with Duplicolor or for that matter indoor latex, fill in the blanks with whatever parts are laying around, put a number on the door and say it's an old race car. Just because it's half *** painted like an old race car, and it has a roll cage, doesn't mean it really is what they're saying it is.

Re: Could this be the deal of the century???
I called the guy about the car and he told me he got it about six years ago from a friend who bought it from ex-drag racer Dick LaHaie, who had it behind his shop for 8-9 years. He said it has no VIN numbers and he has replaced the passenger side fender and door, added the Trans Am interior as the car only had a racing seat in it when he bought it. As for the Craigslist ad, the photos he sent me show the car w/no AC, so I don't know why the underhood photo he put on CL ad is different. He seemed to be very straightforward in our conversation.
Unfortunately, he has no documentation whatsoever but he did say he spoke to Eddie Mecum to verify it was a real Mecum car, for whatever that is worth. Without documentation, I simply lost interest.
Just letting you guys know what he said.

Re: Could this be the deal of the century???
Slightly off topic here, but I was told that some of the test bed vehicles that escaped the crusher were never meant for the street had all the VIN numbers set to 0,as in "0000000000000". You could not tag the car as there would be no title.
You would need to have a car dealer licence to be able to drive it on the street (dealer tags).
