VIN/RPO COMPNINE Question....
Just looked up my VIN on the COMPNINE Web Site.....
It came back and told me the following:
Rarity...
There are 8 1992 CAMARO RS 2 DR vehicles (0.013%) matching your exact options list. There are 16 (0.027%) with at least as many options.
Is it common to have something in that range???????

Re: VIN/RPO COMPNINE Question....
This is a common result. This means that 8 cars were 100% identical to yours on every RPO code. That includes insignificant details such as your region's sales promo that was in effect on the date the car was ordered.
The only thing that really counts for rarity is model (base, mid or uplevel), body style, engine, and transmission. Filter by those criteria only and we can talk about rarity.
Sorry, but paint colors and optional equipment don't count for rarity either.

I wonder if we could petition Compnine to remove that nonsense... This is at least the third time I've seen this same subject with a new thread. Even on other GM enthusiast forums people think it's funny. I've never heard of anyone running a VIN on compnine getting a number greater then about 10 similar cars.

Re: VIN/RPO COMPNINE Question....
Scott said his 2003 Monte Carlo came back with 400 or something... It was a higher number. As for 3rd Gens Drew is correct... Every car is a one of 10 or less. The truth is, unless you have a 1990, for our purposes the information is interesting, and you can gather trends, but that is about it.
82-89 is virtually useless for our cars.

Re: VIN/RPO COMPNINE Question....
Just ran my VIN on my 2002...106 exactly like it, 138 with at least as many options. Since there were only really like 3 options offered on my car that weren't standard (12 disc changer, traction control, 6 speed), I'm pretty sure this is correct. Third gen's (particularly the earlier ones before GM started offering option packages) should put out lower numbers for "exactly like it" since many options were not part of a package back then, and could be ordered separately, creating a TON of possible combinations.
Sucks though, I bought the car new because I thought it was going to be rare, then everybody else bought one too.
