1992 Jamaica Yellow Formula roll call!!

I am curious as to how many factory Jamaica Yellow 1992 Formula owners are on the forum? I am especially interested in JY Formulas as I am trying to locate as many as possible. I understand that there are differing opinions as to how many JY Formulas were produced - has anyone found a definitive number?

Thanks!

Jason

Looking for one myself now. The problem is, the ones I find are "local pick up only".

Anyone else know of any JY Formulas? TTOP350, here is a quick photo of mine.

Haven't really had time to do much with them lately, just trying to detail and round up a few correct replacement parts. Both are 5.7 cars with black interior. They are twins with the exception of t-tops and electric antenna on one and hardtop and rear window defog on the other.

The paint on yours is waaay better than mine. Mines all fadded but its org paint except the hood insert and rear spoiler, sooo I'm at a crossroads. Do I leave it and enjoy driving it or do I paint it and worry bout rock chips? (small town with rocked roads :-( )
I'm wanting to drive the crap out of it once its cloned..
I have seen 3-4 others that I'd like to have.
Bruce used to have one but he sold it?

The hardtop was Bruces, and the T top car was listed here a few months ago. The T top car was actually a pleasant surprise.

Re: 1992 Jamaica Yellow Formula roll call!!

Thanks guys for the input and complements. I did some trading to get the hardtop car back in the summer. I wasn't really looking for another JY car, but then the t-top car just kind of fell into my lap.

Anyway, back on topic...we now have three JY Formulas accounted for. Other than the 5.7 JY t-top car with tan interior that was in Pontiac Performance a few years ago, does anyone even know of any other JY Formulas? I know there have to be others out there somewhere. Also, does anyone have a firm number of JY Formulas built?

A number I have seen posted before is 54.
I have seen a JY Formy at the T/A Nats Non TPI, Auto, Gray Int. Cannot remember what wheels it had
I also saw another one in the Richmond Va. area, could not tell if it was auto or stick but it had tan interior and gold wheels.
Oh and how could I forget the 1 of 1 1LE Pontiac owned and auctioned of, smeone in this board owns it.

Moderator okfoz had posted in another thread that PHS stated there were 26 JY Formulas made. I would think that would be pretty much accurate since PHS has the records.

PHS shows 26.
CompNine.com had 31
keep in mind that about 10% of the cars were not listed on Compnine. So I would guess in the neighborhood of 33 -34 in reality, but that is a guess. The best number we have is 31 for sure.

There was 26 non GFX base firebirds in JY however.

Well, my T-top JY 350 Formula is about to be headed to Texas to a nice gentleman who plans to give it the full restoration it deserves. I am keeping the hardtop car long term - I just can't make myself part with it. I kept telling myself I should get it go, then I see it and I'm like 'Naaah".

Re: 1992 Jamaica Yellow Formula roll call!!

I have a JY car, 350 tp, 700R4, 3.23 G80 rear, 1992 built in 1991, October 17 invoice. I just joined this Forum, and I am trying to authenticate my car. I found it sitting on a car lot in south Texas. Shows 81,xxx miles, and I am trying to document that. If I can get pictures up later on tonight I would like your feed back on this. Thanks. BTW, it does not have 3.42 gears, it is documented as 3.23. I need to edit that.

Re: 1992 Jamaica Yellow Formula roll call!!

Come on guys..I am just trying to get some numbers on this car. I have it in my garage right now. It really isn't for sale, but I would like to know what you folks think about it. I am going to show it, but I would like to be able to verify the numbers on the car as far as rarity goes. I have shown it once since I have owned it, and folks want to know about the Jamaica Yellow rarity on this particular car and numbers. According to our resources it is supposed to be one of seven T-Tops that were built, and the searches only show 2 left. I have one of them. If you can prove them wrong on this, I would appreciate the input. Thanks.

I think John gave you the best answer above. The numbers next to the options tells you how many cars had each individual option. I don't believe there is any reference that has car specific numbers with each unique combination of options.

Re: 1992 Jamaica Yellow Formula roll call!!

Compnine shows 9 - 1992 Formula Jamaica Yellow, 350 TPI, and T-Top.

Problem is Compnine doesn't have all the VINs for 100% accuracy. Also, while researching my 1992 T/A Convertible, two different letters from Pontiac in the 90s supply two different figures so Pontiac's own figures don't match.

BTW, how do you know only 2 are left?

I don't know that there are only two left with the same build sheet. The information I got was in the documentation I got when I bought the car. It might be that there are only two cars actually registered and on a data base somewhere. I really didn't buy the car because of the documentation, the dealer gave that to me after I already made the deal. It was a pleasant surprise, even if there are 20 or 30 of them out there identical to this car, that is still a hard to find vehicle, and I am pretty happy to have it. Thank you, folks for your information. This is really a great site! Oh, the car on auto trader that was posted on here is the one I bought.

Haven't really had time to do much with them lately, just trying to detail and round up a few correct replacement parts. Both are 5.7 cars with black interior. They are twins with the exception of t-tops and electric antenna on one and hardtop and rear window defog on the other.

oldpalerider,

Your car is the bottom one in this photo. I used to own it and sold it to someone in Texas around a year ago, maybe a bit longer. I bought it from someone in Illinois, but it was previously a Minnesota car. The top one is the hardtop that Bruce Hawkins used to own that got from him about 4 years ago and now it has a new owner in Arizona.

Thank you Jason, I appreciate the information. I wonder if there are any records on the maintenance on this car.....I know......too much to ask for. Thanks again for your help.

Re: 1992 Jamaica Yellow Formula roll call!!

I think Bruce hawkins had 3 Yellow Formulas at one time, he had a Hard top 350 a T-top 350 and #1 1992 1LE... He kept #1, obviously since he spent $35000 on it a few years back.. but being the very first 1992 F-car, and being otherwise the perfect 3rd gen without being a TTA or Firehawk... I was tempted...

Not sue how anyone would know there was only 2 left... seems like unless you have the VIN for every one out there, to figure that out would be a challenge.

Re: 1992 Jamaica Yellow Formula roll call!!

I am going off of memory but when I had both those cars, I used COMPNINE and entered in the VINs of each car and then singled out the option codes under "rarity" for 1) Formula, 2) 5.7 , 3) JY color and 4) black interior. The results came back as 11 cars total with those 4 options toggled in, and with a bit more playing with the CC1 code, there ended up being 9 cars with CC1 and 2 hardtops in the JY, black, 5.7 combo. I made copies of the reports and I think I still have them around here somewhere.

IIRC there was also 1 CC1 5.7 JY car with beige interior and I believe it was featured in a magazine a few years ago.

I realize that is not definitive, iron clad proof, but it has to be pretty close.

Jason 444....that is the exact report I received when I bought the car. 9 built, 2 hard tops and seven T-Tops. A search of all known data bases has come up with the same conclusion. Also....only two cars can be accounted for now with T-Tops, mine and one other one. These figures come from a national data base (supposedly) and other registry sources, so I am thinking it is pretty rare, no matter how many are still out there. Thanks for your input.

Although this is not a Formula it is a Jamaican Yellow 92 Bird. Its going for $1500, but has a Vats problem. Would be a good project car cheap. I found it in the Tampa Florida look up.

There is another Yellow Base firebird without the W68 GFX on autotrader IIRC... I would not be surprised if the non W68 Yellow Firebird was more rare than the Formula

yea I've been to Tony's garage and last time I was there he tried selling me the convertible. My friend I got my IROC off of asked me if I knew of any decent 3rd gens for a good price and didn't need too much work the other day and his convertible is close enough and cool enough that he'd buy it.
