The red one impresses me...the black one does not. I like black better, but with the wrong wheels and the IROC door stickers in the wrong spot? Both imply to me an owner that either didn't know or didn't care...

Lot G50 1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Convertible
Sold Price: $16,000
Now that amount seems to be more in line with what some of these cars should command price-wise, or—at least—a positive indicator. Still a ways to go, though.

A blue 1990 5 speed LB9 IROC-Z, that's marked as all original, sold for $8000. It had aftermarket exhaust tips, spark plug wires and stereo. It looked fairly low miles based on the interior condition and engine detailing, but original it wasn't.
A 1986 Camaro Sport Coupe, red with red interior and ttops, sold for $8000.
A 1989 Camaro RS convertible 305 with a repaint, 18" rims, new water pump and carpet, and a rebuilt transmission, was bid up to $8500, no sale.
The black 'vert above sold for $6500. There must've been details about it that brought the low price that wasn't disclosed online.
I was planning on getting there this past weekend to see these cars in person so I could see why they get the prices they do, but I never got there.
BTW, a 1983 Trans Am pace car (Nascar Stroh's) that was white, auto and CFI, sold for $5500.
A 1988 Blue Formula with LT1 and 6 speed was bid up to $3500 with no sale.
A 1988 GTA Notchback with 62k miles was bid up to $8500 with a no sale.
A 1987 White TA with a repaint sold for $6k.

For $6,500, I would've happily bought the 90 convertible...even if for nothing more than a proper detailing out and flipping it.
Well bought. I love the look of the blue 90 IROC coupe...I would've paid $8k myself and kept that one if the miles were reasonable. Kinda getting the itch for a "driver" third gen again

The red one is the one I would want. It's nice to see 3rd gens in somewhat of the spotlight now and then. All the cars are nice and that 83 TA is super sweet. I like the later cars, but the simple look of the 82/83 TA's is hot!.

When you see the word "custom", deduct 50% value....

That car is modified, not restored. People in the auto industry throw the word "restored" around way too much. The definition of "restore" is, to bring back to a former, original, or normal condition. I would be more likely to purchase a car that is restored than one that somebody else modified. The modifications are based on the owners tastes and might not align with mine.

This car is not my style, but if it ran good and was solid I would have bought it for $3500. Around here if that car was on CL they would be asking the 50% more and it would be listed for $6-7k. The prices for 3rd gens no matter where seem to be all over the place.
I agree with Scott-the word restore is used was too much. Also you cannot do a frame off on a unibody LOL! I see that one alot on line.

They often point out that owners of the restomods rarely make their investment back at auction. They generally sell for only 50~60% of what it cost to do them. Some of those guys spend like $20,000 for a paint job! I think this is also true for a lot of the cars restored to original, but the haircut isn't quite as bad.

It sounds like you can get better deals at the Mecum auctions than you can off ebay or Craigs list.

Sometimes you can get an awesome deal at Mecum. My Camaro Club is hired by Mecum to drive the auctions at Pheasant Run in St. Charles Ill.
A couple of years ago, there was sharp an '85 IROC-Z. Black with a red interior and red stripes, big cammed TPI, 4 wheel discs, 3.42 posi, T-tops - pretty much loaded and with only 30K miles. It only needed a good detail to be spectacular! I think the reserve was set at $8500. We approached the owner and told him that if it didn't sell, we (that is ME) would buy it. He said, it was his ex-wife's and he was not going back home with it.
During the bidding, he lifted the reserve and it sold for $5200. What are the auction fees? 10% or so? So basically, this guy shipped this low miles, creampuff car hundreds of miles only to sell it for $4700-ish.
Two weeks later, I saw the same car for sale on Autotrader for $10K
