Is This For Real? Never Heard Of A "Contempo" Before
Just saw this posted for sale on eBay. Never heard of a Contempo package before but you learn something new every day, I guess.

Re: Is This For Real? Never Heard Of A "Contempo" Before
From what I know its just a body kit, and I don't believe it was a factory option.
Its just me but it may be rare body kit because its ugly as he!!. imo

It's an '86, yet it has the earlier tail lamps. Interesting...

The undercarriage is suspiciously clean for car with 45XXX miles on it.

You can search the threads and find more info on a Contempo Camaro. If you're interested here's a thread to get you started,

Re: Is This For Real? Never Heard Of A "Contempo" Before
The reason the car has the earlier tail lights is because those are the correct tail lights for the sport coupe in 1986. Only Z28s got the grid style tail lights from 1985-1990. The Contempo is just a V6 Camaro with fender flares, rims and a different rear hatch.

the more i look at the car, the more it grows on me. i think im just getting sick of the same old look of the ones i have. but spray bombing the underside like that is rediculous. looks like a wheel cylinder was leaking on it

A wheel cylinder leak and an oil leak. for $7600 in repairs you'd think they would have fixed those items too!
I think I saw this on ebay a number of months ago. It must not have sold. I wonder what the reserve is on it.

Re: Is This For Real? Never Heard Of A "Contempo" Before
I bought 1 car on eBay, and tons of NOS and used parts for my old cars. If I saw a car I wanted on eBay and had the money ( I always see ones I want, but don't have the money), I wouldn't hesitate to bid on it if the seller has a reasonable eBay history. A lot of times I find cars on eBay are also up on other sites for sale like Craigslist and Auto Trader at the same time. I don't think they are better or worse than a lot of other internet car sales sites, but you need to use some common sense and be careful when dealing with someone across the country.

Are those really factory rims?

Re: Is This For Real? Never Heard Of A "Contempo" Before
Who said they were factory rims? Those are the rims that were part of package. The package is an aftermarket customization that you could buy through certain dealers. None of the modifications were factory.
And to the buying cars on eBay comment.....I don't know if eBay is a last resort to selling cars today, but I bought a '69 Camaro Z28, a 19k mile '82 Z28 Indy Pace Car, a 19k mile '93 Z28 Indy Pace Car and a 26k mile '86 Olds 442 from eBay. None of them were listed anywhere else but eBay. The only car that I had issues with the seller on, was the '93 and that was through a shady dealership. All of the others were private sales and were very pleasurable transactions.

Re: Is This For Real? Never Heard Of A "Contempo" Before
I've owned two Contempos, and those are the 16" wheels that came on the car. They also put the kit on V8s, as both of mine had the 305 in it. I have one now...and judging by the reaction, you guys won't like it...but I do.

Re: Is This For Real? Never Heard Of A "Contempo" Before
I've bought and sold cars on eBay and I have never thought of it as a last resort. It is a national opportunity to market and sell (or buy) a car. If the seller has good feedback, why not.

Re: Is This For Real? Never Heard Of A "Contempo" Before
Here is what I did not find.
It is probably true that the owner that originally purchased it in 1986 drove it a handful of miles before stuffing and forgetting about it for 20 years... She probably called and said, hey, I have this old camaro, can you fix it up for me?
They said Sure, and they did the repairs. When it came out to $7000 and the car is only worth $2500 she said, I do not want the car, it was too much to pay to have it back. just keep it and sell it for yourself.
So now they are in the hole $7000 and need to sell the car to at least recoup their investment, on a 27 year old car that is almost worth more in parts than it is as a whole.

Re: Is This For Real? Never Heard Of A "Contempo" Before
I like the looks of the Contempo. It's no different than someone personalizing their own ride with a different hood, wheels, paint, engine swap, or anything else that makes it your own.
I've also bought a few cars from ebay without any major problem. It's usually a lot better than most of the stuff offered on Craigslist.

Thanks. Other than the wheels and hood, that's how the car came. The big wing and front valance were part of the Cantara GT package. I believe mine is the only one left...let the jokes begin as to why. You should have seen it with the louvers on the headlights!

nice, the headlight louvers in my opinion look good since the rest of the car is already "differant", i like how it screams the 80's. your hl louvers are the only ones iv ever seen....

Re: Is This For Real? Never Heard Of A "Contempo" Before
ya know if it wasnt for the weirdness where the lower front air dam meets the fender i wouldnt mind it all that much. But that just looks like it was not well thought out and almost not finished. But they all have that so i guess it was what they were going for.
As for the headlight louvers...you still go those? As 80s as they are they look good on that car.

To each their own... That body package is sooo 80's! However those might be the cars selling for huge money at Mecum type auctions in 20-30 years!
I will stick with my stock looking 86 & 87 IROCs LOL!

I honestly do not mind it... I would prefer a performance engine, a nice LS motor would go great.
