100 MILE Z28 1LE Camaro
Barrett Jackson is selling a 1991 Camaro Z28 1LE this weekend. The owner bought it for his collection. It comes with the original window sticker, is radio delete and is an automatic.
Hope we see what the high end is of our 3rd Gen's. Beautiful car!

This car is on the docket for Tuesday - lot 222, which is the first day Velocity will broadcast. Will definitely be watching this one - that car is a spitting image of mine! If I read the description correctly, it's a no reserve car. I predict somewhere between $15k - $20k.

Why do you say that you want to see the high end for our cars and think this car would be that example? It's a low mile original car and a stripped model at that. There are other examples out there that may bring higher values. Remember, the 1LE is just a larger brake package on the front. If the engine was a higher horsepower or larger cubic inch than a regular Z28, it would definitely be a valuable car, but as it stands, the engine is the same as every other '91 Z28 and this one doesn't have AC or a radio.

Easy answer. The essence of a 1LE is that less is more - biggest engine and lowest weight. Should sell for a good buck:

While a high optioned car can bring good money, the right low option car can as well. I'd rather have a zero option 1LE with a T5 versus a car loaded with all the 80s/90s gadgets and novelties of the time... and there are many others out there who prefer the low-option, all business sports cars.

My question was more in line with the comment "the high end of our 3rd gens". What makes this 1LE "the high end"? I would like to think the high end of our 3rd gens, is in line with the Firehawks and the TTA. Other variations of "high end" are usually referred to as the cars that come fully optioned out.
If people believe this is the "high end" and expect it to bring between $15k-$20k, as was mentioned above, then this is definitely not the "high end"!

Personally I'm glad they aren't too expensive. My wife would string me up if I bought a 3rd Gen Firehawk. As long as my car cost less than hers I'm in the clear.

Yeah. Even better, she hates driving my Bird. "It's too low". She's got her SUV, I got my Firebird. I only drive hers when she hears a new "Noise".

Re: 100 MILE Z28 1LE Camaro
Again, I have to disagree that this car represents the upper value of our cars. It sold for $25k! There was a 1990 1LE IROC-Z on eBay that sold for $40k just two weeks ago. I know of an '87 IROC-Z that sold for over $30k this past year. A low mile '87 IROC-Z sold for $20k in November. I mention the last one to say that if an '87 with miles sells for $20k, then a no mile '91 Z28, selling for $25k, does not represent the high end or upper end for 3rd gens.

I don't really watch Ebay cars all that much, nor did I know about the other sales. All I've been watching are the auction shows and their results.
Most cars do sell cheap at the auctions anyway. Only the most rare of cars go over much, and usually less than the seller really wanted.

1992 Firebird VIN 00001 sold for around $30,000 a few years back... it is kind of a hit or miss.
You can buy Firehawk #11 on ebay right now (the real high end of third gens)

Re: 100 MILE Z28 1LE Camaro
The price of cars varies though out the year as well. At 25,000 plus commission this car was a little less than those listed above. Being in the middle of winter could effect the price as well. Around Phoenix it wouldn't make much difference, but for anyone bidding from around the country, it might. Auction success requires at least 2 committed bidders to get the best price. Without that, you better have a reserve.
It's great to see a 3rd Gen preserved with so few miles. Glad someone has the ability and space to keep them this way. I, for one, will only have drivers. I'm close to retirement and am paring down those items and space I have.
Though a Firehawk would be nice, a formula and winters on the beach sound better. With the money I have in my Bird, my wife doesn't even complain when I spend money on her.

I think that might not be the complete list, and I think he has sold a few of them. But still... He has his personal Museum... There was an article written about him not too long ago, been a few years.

Just a reminder to those that don't know or remember Drew. He made it very clear that the 1LE was just a larger brake assembly on a stock car. It provided absolutely no engine performance over any other showroom car with the same engine. Many people have said the 1LE is like having a 1980/1990s COPO, but that isn't correct at all. The COPO cars of the 60s and 70s had engine upgrades not available on the standard order sheet. I would liken the B4C to be more like a COPO since the general public couldn't order the car and they were available with an engine/suspension option not available on the RS.

Re: 100 MILE Z28 1LE Camaro
He made up his collection of low production, desirable cars. This does not make them the "high end" of value for our cars as the original poster stated. Most of his 1LE cars are original race cars. You can buy race cars for less than it's original sticker in most instances.

The COPO cars for our generation was the TTA and Firehawk. Unfortunately The Camaro never got anything even close to being similar for performance.
There is a guy I met at a car show that said for $750 + shipping he would send me a 1LE Front brake setup, he apparently makes them... I have thought about doing that for my 89 Formula 350 Convertible...

Re: 100 MILE Z28 1LE Camaro
[QUOTE= I hate to say it, but the 1LE was a race package insofar as you could stop faster. Otherwise everything else was available on any 88-92 GTA, Formula, Trans Am, IROC or Z28 for that matter.
The COPO cars for our generation was the TTA and Firehawk. [/QUOTE]
1le had the baffled tank - only available with 1le until 90-92
I think of Firehawks as more like COPO cars since with the TTA you were very limited on options - ie. no 5 or 6 speed manual
