Wow. Don't know anything about it. I've never seen one like that before. Very interesting.

A factory convertible from gm was not Avaliable till 87. So the aftermarket, in this case autoform, converted cars to satisfy peoples demand for a convertible basically. I don't know the exact number but I believe they only made 500 or so a yr, maybe more but I'm not entirely sure. Regardless it is a pretty hard to come by car and priced not too badly if all the autoform stuff is nice and intact.

Pretty sure that particular conversion was designed by folks that loved boats. Never been a fan of them myself, I think some of the other conversions were done much better.

It doesn't look that bad but that hinged lid blows.

If you go to the GM Media archive, you can download the specifications for every 3rd Gen Camaro. Inside the 1987 packet, you will find the following page...
What does this mean... Really not much other than it was not frowned upon by GM, it appears that it was an accepted conversion for dealers that wanted to make a convertible for a customer. I do know that the "not factory" ASC convertibles were serviced completely by dealerships that participated in the program.

Interesting. And a significant detail to the original owner, because if a modification this big was not GM authorized, the car might have had it's VIN blocked in the warranty system.

Now that you mention it, the Johnson Phantom that used the F-body platform and made to look like a 1930's car had a different VIN, it showed both IIRC.
The Kundsen Tojan & Carrello I think used the original VIN however.
