Firebird, Camaro & Mustang Price Trends

To all the Naysayers.

You can get the same information by going to cargurus.com

The trend you are seeing is the Firebird prices from the end of 2011, beginning of 2012 to today September 2015. Notice the trend, it is a definite upwards.

The Camaro is very similar, if not identical trends to the Firebird

Lastly you can see that the Mustang has been relatively flat in values, as they compare to the Camaro and the Firebird, for the same period of time for the same years of cars.

I believe these are averages of values over the time, of course there are some that will be sold for more, other for less...

Edit:
Please note that the Mustang I limited to a few years, and the Firebird was all that was available. If I add too many years on the chart it gets too muddy...

You have the Mustang listed twice and no Camaro list at all. Just an FYI

Re: Firebird, Camaro & Mustang Price Trends

I just did a check on 1967, 1968 & 1969 Camaros, and although the averages are 10x higher, you would have been better off in 2012 to purchase 10 3rd gens than 1 1st gen.

The second gens, specifically the early 1970's are similar trends to 3rd gens, but again they are asking 5 times as much. The late 2nd gen Camaros are not worth anything more than a late 3rd gen right now

Re: Firebird, Camaro & Mustang Price Trends

Your GM charts are for a 3 1/2 year time period, the Mustang (I think that's the first time I ever typed that word!) only 6 months. Time periods should match for sake of comparison.

1992 Mustangs are very popular because it's the only year with both clearcoat paint and forged internals.

Re: Firebird, Camaro & Mustang Price Trends

Not sure I'm seeing the colors correctly so someone else verify, but it looks like the '87 Camaro prices have been flat. The graph shows peaks and valleys, but looks like '87 was just below $10k and ends at just above $10k.

I believe if you look at the chart you are correct. However the peaks and valleys are based on time of year. If you notice it appears that that trend of time of year is disappearing, and they are just trending more upwards as of late.

Scott, I think that your looking at the light red for the 1989 prices. The darker red is for the 1987 prices that seem to have peaked at around 14,000 thousand in July of 2013 and are now just over 10,000 that is if I'm seeing the colors correctly?

Re: Firebird, Camaro & Mustang Price Trends

I zoomed in on the graph and the 87 color is that brownish color, so its pretty stagnant at about $10k. The 89 looks to have a large swing.

I just did a graph with 87 and 89 trending over the past 5 years from September to September.

You are only looking at the averages, and it is not giving you the real picture. In 2011, 2012 & 2013 they all bottom out in the Fall or late summer, but in 2014, and 2015 that trend is no longer there, they did not dip below 10K for long after early 2014.

Re: Firebird, Camaro & Mustang Price Trends

You'd think '87 prices would be highest for Camaro since it was the last year of Norwood paint and also that 350 IROCs were all G92. But, what percentage of the model year's cars were Norwood 350s? Probably small. Also, '87 is a very common year with these cars.

I think the Van Nuys paint has got to be the shoddiest paint. At the Trans Am nationals this year, there were several original paint cars. My 89 is the same way, the edge of the hoods, the inside fenders were not even completely coated with color at the factory. You can tell a Factory Van Nuys paint job because they missed so much. Looks fine with the hood closed, but seriously I was very disappointed to see that...

Not sure that is correct. I have a 90 and the paint appears to be clearcoat, as it is flaking in spots.

Okfoz - just curious how many cars you used as a sample for your data. The Firebird prices seem a little high compared to the Camaro.

I was surprised to learn it was "that late" as well. It was in this month's Grassroots Motorsports.

I did not do any amount of cars, it was a calculator on carguru's that takes all cars into consideration.
