Re: WHEN THEY WERE NEW

From 85 to 87 IIRC.
The 82-84 had a small bird in the front of the hood, or on the back of the hood scoop for cars with the DX1 option.

Re: WHEN THEY WERE NEW

So nice to see them again. IIRC they were posted years ago with the year on the pictures. Most where from 1986/87 and some from 1992. Really cool black IROC-Z.

Re: WHEN THEY WERE NEW

The Red Trans Am was the last T/A buitl. I thought I would win that or the last IROC-Z which was given to an employee. My dad got second on the IROC and he received a GMAD pocket watch....oh boy! The last T/A was raffled off to benefit the Norwood High School Band. The people that won it were on Govt Assistance and were told they had to get off GA or sell the car.. They sold the car....lost track of it. The last IROC has been traced to Kentucky and traded in on a pickup because he was tired of everyone bugging him about it. It has yet to surface. I have plenty of photos of those cars. I will get them out and post.

Re: WHEN THEY WERE NEW

I also have build sheets for the last 2 shifts of cars built at Norwood. I will post the Seq numbers in range form and if your 1987 Norwood car falls in that last 6, I should have your build sheet. Stayed away from this site because it was to painful after selling my car. But now that I am getting it back, and to never again be sold. Im excited. I miss working there. I have tons of memoribilia. Just wish we had a museum.

Re: WHEN THEY WERE NEW

I followed my 1991 RS through Van Nuys, I have factory photos from there as well. Just wish my RS was still alive. Sold it to a friend who crashed it. I should never sell cars after buying them. It was so much fun back then, because you could individualize your car from the factory. Now you have to do it after the factory, because your choice is Package 1 or Package 2. Followed my 2000 SS through St. Therese and have factory photos of that and coming off the train in Ohio. Tried to buy that car back a couple of years ago, but she wanted way to much money. Now she has passed on and unknown where the car is.

Thats so cool. I wish I could find more photos, banners, posters etc for the 91-92 Z28s. I know GM must have put them up in their dealerships during the early 90s. I just want everything 91-92

Re: WHEN THEY WERE NEW

Brings back memories of going to dealers to look at them back then. I remember shopping for my 91 camaro and finally just ordering one because I couldn't find a loaded teal one with a 5 Speed in any dealer's inventory. I remember Mine came with a CD with a bunch of songs from the 1980s on it. I wish I still had it. I had the 1991 brochure up until not too long ago. I also remember I got two round trip United airlines plane tickets when I bought my camaro too. I used them to fly to hawaii for my honeymoon. Man it was so cool as a 20 year old kid to buy a brand new camaro!

it was even cooler to be an 18 year old and have your father buy one for you and order it from the factory the way you wanted (except enginewise). I am sure yours was nice too!

Re: WHEN THEY WERE NEW

Awesome thread. Thanks for sharing!
I owned a 1984 red t-top sport coupe with a carbed v8. My girlfriend at the time (now my ex wife) owned a brand new 1987 red t-top sport coupe. Parked side by side the colors of red were different. My 84 had a slight hint of an orange tint to it. What color was that? It was definately factory, as was hers. It looked red and indeed was....until i parked next to her. Anyone with that info would be a great help. I do know that from 84-87 base coat clear coat was intruduced and mine was definately enamel while hers was BC/CC. If I do a color change on mine, it would definately be the color of my 84! Enamel and all!

You're a good man! Taking care of your dad in his old age is the honorable thing to do. Cherish your time with him. I lost my dad when I was 19. I would give anything to have him around now.

You're right about how much fun it was ordering a new one back then. I sat down with the fleet manager and checked off every box I wanted. Taking delivery was an experience Ill never forget.

Thanks it would be nice if he interacted with me rather than treating my family like a reality show he can watch. its just kinda creepy to be watched and he does not interact... long story but yeah. good to be able to talk to him I guess.

What an amazing photo of ALL those Highway Patrol Camaros. Never saw one on the road and I can't imagine if anybody kept one looking that good NOW!

In the picture, the firebird doesn't have the lower part of the deflector installed. At least it doesn't look like it.
The trans ams lower bumper ground fx are one piece with the bumper

Re: WHEN THEY WERE NEW

Dug up some pictures.

This was taken at a highway rest stop in 1989. They were headed to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 1989 Indy 500.
They were all 1989 TTA's.
