Seat/ reclining bits - fuzzy plastic trim?
Hi all, I 'm trying to figure out if the plastic trim on the sides of my driver and passenger seat trim (plastic pieces that go over reclining back/bottom sections on the left and right side of each front seat) is supposed to have a velvety texture for the '86 model year.
Mine has a bunch of velvet-texture on it, and a lot of it has been scratched off over the years and I'm trying to figure out if the car shipped with plain plastic from the factory or if it had velvety crap on it, so I can restore it back to factory
Let me know...

I would think that it was a spray on texture type thing. Not sure if they make that, but if you scratch it, the plastic is under it, so i think it was spray.
edit: I did a search for velvet spray paint and found "flocking" at hobby stores. You can read how it gets applied

Some are fuzzy, some aren't. I couldn't really say what options determine if a car would get the fuzzy parts.
Flocking would be the way to go. In a home environment, you spray an adhesive on the cleaned bare part, then dust fuzzy fibers onto the part until coated. In the Mustang world, the SVO Mustangs 84-86 had fuzzy dash panels. A Google search should find how-to articles pretty easily... Like this thread for example - http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...zel-reflocking
Personally, I doubt anyone could really say bare plastic is "wrong". If you like em fuzzy, refuzzy. If you like them bare plastic, run bare plastic.

Do you think the "fuzzies" came with the carpeted rear panel option? I don't recall what that RPO is. My 87 has carpet & fuzzes, but its a bit worn looking too. I have had others that didn't have it. Never paid a lot of attention. Interesting topic.

My Iroc has the fuzzy bits, but not the carpeted interior panels. I'd imagine it has something to do with the year, and whether the car has the custom interior. But that's just speculation. It's one of those things that I've never really paid a lot of attention to, like carpeted kick panels, or carpeted console base.

My 1987 IROC doesn't have carpet in the rear plastic pieces either, but came with electric seats and the fuzzy plastic trim on them. I did what Drew said to do. Went to the hobby store and got the right color flocking. Got a can of 3M headliner adhesive and sprayed the plastic then flocked it. It looked darker till it dried then looked better than the original.

That stuff is called flocking. There are kits sold to do your own.

I just found this on a search so don't buy this without a little research.

Thats cool as heck. Can anyone post some pictures of how theirs turned out? I don't know what would be close in color for me. I have the med red interior, but forget what its called.
How do you remove the original stuff without damaging the surface of the plastic? sand it, or strong solvents?

I'd buy a kit (or two) and practice on some random throw away items before doing the actual seat parts.
I doubt that you'll find a direct color match, so be prepared to re-flock ALL the flocked seat pieces.
