18k? It's cool.....not that cool. If it was a firebird it's the last Pontiac powered firebird....

Knock a zero off the end and it'd be a sweet car for a new drivetrain. I see an exceptionally nice roller there once you throw out the hub caps, mirrors, ans the 2.5L scrap iron.
This is the textbook case of rare being rare because no one wants it.

I just went through my emails. In February of this year, he wanted $25K for it. I tried to respectfully inform him that was high.
I guess I somewhat got through to him.

But that's a $5k car at best, not too cheap so it doesn't get in the wrong hands, not too expensive either because despite its odd status, it's not sought after at all.

Its neat but not that neat. May sound harsh but to me its maybe a 1,000 dollar car max.

I looked at the pictures again. I think it's an interesting car because it has absolutely nothing on it (when was the last time you saw an AM radio). I could see if it was perfect in the wrapper car (less than 100 miles) to ask that much, but it needs a few things corrected. This is part of third gen history and I hope whoever gets it makes it right and preserves it. There are enough modified examples out there and not enough cars like this one.

Re: Low Mile Iron Duke......Ermm, $18K......
The basicness of the car is what makes it interesting, not valuable of course, but it stands out. A low mile high end model is relatively common, a low mile very low spec model is rare. Putting a V8, sport mirrors and rims would turn it into a Camaro like there are thousands of those.
But that's a $5k car at best, not too cheap so it doesn't get in the wrong hands, not too expensive either because despite its odd status, it's not sought after at all.

I don't know why but I looked at the pictures again. I never seen idiot lights on a camaro. I have seen them in a firebird. Back in high school a buddy of mine had a beige with brown V6 firebird with those steel wheels and black center caps. It was a strippo.

I'm picturing a wife asking her husband to "Please sell that car you never drive". He did as she asked, and they are both content.
That is what I am seeing here.

Actually, I think he needs to go through this process. $25K, no responses. Now $18K, no offers.
He'll sell it eventually, but it will take him YEARS before he gets to a realistic price.
BTW, the original owner was his uncle.

It is rare and it is a cool piece of preserved history. I like that its a manual trans too! However, who wants that? I think it should be worth $5-$6k, but again who wants that? I don't think anyone's third gen wish list HAS EVER included a mint condition '83 Iron Duke. Just my thoughts...

Re: Low Mile Iron Duke......Ermm, $18K......
I think this is a car that would only be desired by someone for nostalgic reasons. There's nothing there to enjoy as far as creature comforts or performance. To me the more intriguing question is why it was purchased and never driven. I would think something like this would be bought as basic transportation, even in '83. Surely it wasn't an investment.

I understand what most everyone is saying about this car. I get it. I want to share a short story:
Back in 1982, when the 3rd gen came out, everybody flipped over the new styling. The Chevy and Pontiac dealers had butt loads of them coming and going. Could not keep em on the lot. I had a buddy that had to have a new Camaro. The same car we are talking about only in dark blue....no nothing...I mean stripped bare bones. He was the happiest guy around. Content for sure. Every time we would all pile in it(4 of us) we would tell him how big a POS it was. It didn't bother him a bit. He said... "This little focker is cool, I like it." We said..."whatever Robert."
Six months later he bought a Dodge Daytona...not much better.

Keep in mind, that a Cavalier cost as much as a stripped Camaro back then. Which would you choose?
I think the owner's uncle only put like 1500 miles on it before it was put away.

The Iron Duke is one of the few engines I can identify by the noises it makes with the hood closed--it sounds like it's flying apart when everything is perfectly normal.
I had one in an '86 Grand Am I had back in the day---how I hated that miserable lump of iron under the hood!

If I did own it, I'd keep it and make my son drive it to school for punishment for whatever it is he will end up doing to make me mad.

My best friend's older brother bought one too, his was silver, base model, entry level car with absolutely no options but it was a new camaro - oh and he had a pop up sun roof in it too that leaked from day one!
He asked if we wanted to go cruising one night and I reluctantly agreed. With 4 of us in the car it struggled a bit to get up the hills in town and I started laughing when we had trouble on one & asked if he wanted us to get out and push. By the time we got down to the grocery store lot in town where everyone hung out he had had enough & told me to get out - which I gladly did. Spent the rest of the night drinking beers and hanging out with my friends & their 71 Hemi Cuda & 72 440/6 Road Runners.
The camaro was a replacement to his Orange Pinto Wagon! He was so tight he squeaked when he walked!

What's with those mirrors on it? Were they only put onto super base cars? Or 82-84 export mirrors like I've seen them passed off as on eBay in the past?

Although its a nice piece of 3rd gen history, I dont see the car selling for more than 5 or 6k. Sooooo much more in the 3rd gen world you could buy with 18k. At least something with performance.

I learned on a 1980 Citation Club Coupe. The car was a strippo. Bench seat, poverty caps, no options except a V6.
By the time I got it home, I knew how to drive stick! Sort of.

Bought my wifes first car it was an 81 Pontiac Phoenix. Pretty much same thing as a Chevy Chevette. It had the Iron Duke 4cyl IIRC. Thing ran great and lasted forever I have saw it going up and down the road here almost 20 yrs after I thought she had wore it out. It got mid 20s mpg.

As as long as he asks $18k for this, you have nothing to worry about it'll stay the same as it is now haha! I agree that it is a cool piece of third gen history.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I watch the Barrett Jackson auctions from time to time, and the commentators talk about how this or that model rolling across the stage is a (whatever) clone, so you get the look of the higher end model for a cheaper purchase price. I get it, but every now and then it hits me that the base or lower model that was utilized to make that happen is forever gone. I get nostalgic for the typical, every day cars like this one. Not every Camaro was an IROC, not every Firebird was a Formula, there were complete model lineups back in the day, and I really appreciate seeing cars like this guy's Iron Duke. I hope it stays just like it is, that it isn't turned into something that it wasn't when it left the assembly line.
