My 1989, G92, 5 speed, N10, DX3, IROC-Z

Since Photosucksit has now destroyed dozens of my photo threads, time to start a new one.

Sprucing up my black '89 for the Illinois Camaro Club All Camaro Show tomorrow.

It was looking like rain, but the forecast seems to be changing. I was getting ready to substitute my '87 convertible. That car has never seen rain, but that one getting rained on, actually not rained on but driven in the rain would be less traumatic to me.

With the changing weather forecast, the black one is back in the bullpen.

Here are some pics:

My new $100 NOS TPI emblem.

Copy of original window sticker.

Shot of N10.

I'll put on my original assembly line rubber door protectors. I'm certain no one will know what those things are about. LOL!

Very nice car Chaz. You even have the grey valve stem caps!

Is that a no mile car? looks like it.

Wasn't somebody on the forum making a fake "green eye" battery cover?

11k miles, Carl. Yes , Andy made the battery decals based on my original battery. Now my battery lives on in other '89s. LOL!

Doesn't look like I'm going to make the show today. Disappointed about that . Bad storms here yesterday. Power has been out since 4:00PM yesterday. Streets are a mess near me. Mine and my neighbor's sump pumps are running off my generator right now. If the power comes on soon I'll take a ride over there. It's nearby. Took the pics and got the car back in the garage minutes before a crazy microburst storm hit Hail was insane!

Hi, chazman.

I've seen your photos before, but that car still looks wonderful!

I am impressed at the appearance of your exhaust manifolds, as I have
noticed that even low mileage garage queens (mine is a 4K miles example) usually show brown corrosion of the iron.

Did you somehow treat them so they never corroded (since you were the original owner)? Or restore them after they showed some corrosion?

Also, what do you use to clean the aluminum TPI stuff?

Thanks for any tips!

. Hi John. I used a manifold dressing called Calyx. I'll post some pictures later when the power hopefully comes on

Your car is the reason that the Gatorbacks need to be reproduced.

Thanks, chazman, for the tip.

I'll have to try some Calyx then.

One question: do you apply the Calyx directly to the manifold (after
scraping off some loose rust)? Or do you first apply some
painting prep first, such as Eastwood's PRE:

http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-pre-painting-prep.html

Eastwood recommends applying PRE before Calyx, but of course they
are trying to sell extra product :-)

Your manifolds look great, so I think I'll trust your advice!

You don't need that stuff, just put the Calyx on with a toothbrush, rag or your finger. Then fire it up for a few minutes to cure. It's gonna stink for a bit.

Yes, I posted some pictures of the beautiful red 1987 IROC I picked up a couple of years ago. When I get a few more nice pictures, I'll add them to the thread I started.

My '89's blood brother! Arnold and I have determined that our cars were built the same week and shared time in the Van Nuys holding lot.

We should check our VINs to see how far they are actually apart, Arnold.

Built May 1989

You're my big brother!

1,939 apart. Certainly built within a week of each other.

I think we've done this before?

Car is stunning Charlie - really stunning!

I've always felt that the second, third & in those very rare cars 4th gear spins were more important than the first. Nice burnout!

For all you geeks out there, and I know there are some, this is 1989 factory filled, windshield wiper fluid. I started it up this morning and figured I'd take a pic of it.

The original battery from this car is apparently now famous! It's all over the 3rd gen FB pages!

It's 731 decal is now being reproduced by more than one vendor and being sold on eBay. And from the looks of it, will find their way in multiple 3rd gens.

Re: My 1989, G92, 5 speed, N10, DX3, IROC-Z

Figured I'd post something, since over the past couple of weeks, I've seen a bunch of guys post pics of the repro stickers from my battery and even post a pic of my actual battery. The internet is really something!

Real nice IROC! I have a black '89 hardtop also but 5.7/auto. Was looking long for a 305/manual but gave in - my impatience got the best of me.....

Did yours come with the decal delete option?

Yup, ordered it with DX3 decal delete. $60 credit to boot!

Some reason , the lower striping and the door decal are gone on mine. Not sure if the owner pulled them off but my SPID does not indicate decal delete. You would never know they existed - they may have been pulled off very earlier after the car was purchased. But I will put them back on once the car is painted.

If there is no DX3 on the SPID, it came with decals from the factory.

A little clean up for tomorrow's All Camaro Show, which looks like it might be rained out.
