89 T/A production numbers
I have an 89 gun metal 350 T/A. I was wondering a couple things, one being if anyone knows the production numbers broken down options. And two, what was the difference in the HP ratings between 88 and 89. I have heard a few things, 1:they had a different cam, or 2: it was because of the dual cats. Can anyone clear this up for me? Thanks.

the 88 and 89 350 had the same 230 horsepower .. in 89 you could get the dual cat n10 option which gave you 240 horsepower .. looks like they made around 5700 1989 ta's ..

Re: 89 T/A production numbers
On Firebird/TA, 1988 and 1989 single cat cars were rated at 225 hp. Dual cat cars added 10 hp, as mid-year 1989 intro. This is different than Camaro numbers above. Cam was same in 88/88, and most aggressive of the 5.7L TPI cars. I hope this helps.

Re: 89 T/A production numbers
I reckon it does, I bought this car with a knock, I pulled a 350 from an 88 IROC and just wanted to make sure the engines were the same. I figured the exhaust was the difference, but never could confirm it. I kind of played with the idea of putting an LT1 cam in it since I have a couple. But I don't know if it would make much difference.

Re: 89 T/A production numbers
i appreciate the reply, I already know the Hp/tq ratings. I wanted to make sure the 88 engine I got for my 89 was the same. As far as production numbers, I was looking for more of a break down, like by options or color. I know there were only around 644 gun metal GTA's in 89, Im just curious about how many gun metal Trans Ams were built, and how many 350 Trans Ams vs 305 Trans Ams. No, I don't think my car is worth a million dollars because "rare", I'm just curious. That information may not even be available, idk.

88 had cold start injector, so harness might have slight variance.

Re: 89 T/A production numbers
The only production numbers that were actually tracked and can be meaningfully calculated, are LARGE model stats. Such as how many 89 Trans Ams were built, or how many 89 Firebirds of all varieties had the 350. Generally speaking the more specific you try to get the less likely the combination was tracked. So when you get down to how many 1989 Firebirds were both Trans Ams, and a 350, you're probably out of luck. Factor in how many were T/As with 350s, and in Gunmetal, you're really far into the mist.
The exception is the invoices that GM has in the computer system. As a general rule, only some Canadian cars and 91-92 were ever in the system. Even then GM didn't keep track of combinations. The only reason those numbers are out there at all, is because someone with access to the GM database, found a way to catalog the information and search it by RPO codes and generate a quantity of XXX RPO in the data. The trouble there is that not every car built is in the database. Also there have been confirmed errors in the calculations. It's still just an educated guess based on an incomplete database and program that isn't necessarily infallible. So when someone claims X car is 1 of 3, there's no positive way to verify the claim is fact.
