1989 IROC For sale in CA
What are your guys thoughts/opinions on this '89 up for grabs ? I contacted the seller and they're asking $12,500. Too much for not having original interior ? Or sweet spot ?
Love the car just not really into the design of those aftermarket seats they put in...

Here’s the plus sides
5.7 engine with t-tops and the very desirable electric blue color. mileage is not bad at 54k.
interior is horrible. And it would cost probably 2k to redo it. I personally would not pay more then 8k for that car. The interior just ruins the car.

Re: 1989 IROC For sale in CA
My first car was an '89 IROC of the same color (and interior color, what's left of it) but hardtop and 305 TPI. I owned it from '06-'10 and am on a hunt to find another like it. I love this but cant get over the interior. I think I would make it happen if it were closer but I'm in Atlanta so after everything Ide be over budget in it.

Re: 1989 IROC For sale in CA
Essentially, I'm really looking for an '89 IROC, with that exact color combination, minus the seat replacement job they did. I prefer hardtop but t top would be fine. Drive train also doesn't matter as long as its TPI.
Seems like 12 years ago when I had mine that wouldn't have been too hard to achieve. These days seems like there's mostly junk boxes and cream puffs out there for insane amounts of money and really nothing in between that needs minor TLC fixes for a reasonable amount. If I could just get in the time machine and stop myself from selling my '89 in 2010...

If you deduct the cost of re-doing the interior they might go for it.. depends how much they spent to get the car though..
The interior is bothersome.. It looks like removable seat covers you can buy at Autozone. I would have to get the interior re-done to factory spec..
$10k would be a good offer and see if they can meet you in the middle..

Actually, they aren't just seat covers. They are fitted upholstery. For what ever reason, the installer didn't pull the plastics and hardware off of the passenger seat to do it correctly. Look close, you can see the welt cord. Seat covers don't have that.Look at the drivers seat, they pulled the plastics. Also look at the passenger rear seat, it's not installed proper. It sits off center.

I think it’s worth whatever you’re willing to pay. The price is not bad. How often will your come across a low mileage, 5.7. TTop, BLUE! Iroc?? And it looks like it’s in really good condition. Now the interior is really garbage but they look like generic seat covers to me? Anyhow you can plug in some 4th gen leather seats for 500 and call it a day! It’s not a deal breaker. If you have the cash and that’s your dream ride Go For It!!!

Definitely not a bad price and a nice looking car with good options.. I’d still deduct for the unoriginal interior.. The premium prices on these are usually for all original.. I’d even pay more for a worn driver seat than bad covers..

I still say those are covers. Those are the custom seats that have a detached headrest. The cover looks like a single cover over the entire seat. Also, I don't think anybody in their right mind would reupholster a seat and cover the seat latch at the bottom and the plastics on the side. They are probably an expensive fitted cover, but they should come right off.

I think Scott may be right and they very well could be custom fit seat covers. They look a lot like the custom seat covers they put over Jeep interiors.
but if they are covers I bet the drivers seat bolster is ripped and the seats are water stained from leaking ttops.

I think Scott is right as well. I installed custom fit seat covers in a new Ram pickup last year at my old job, and they actually even have the same pattern on them.....and I had to remove all the seat trim stuff to put them on, and reinstall the plastic stuff on top of them. I'd put money on it that these are the same exact thing.

If you're looking for one that has that particular color combo, but needs TLC, this might be a good one to grab. I'd try and negotiate the price and use the seats as a bargaining chip. Then just replace the seat upholstery once you have it in your garage. I'd shoot for 10K on it and see if they bite.

THEY ARE SEAT COVERS! This is not a reupholstered interior. Someone just needs to ask for the covers to be removed to see what the original seats look like.

Re: 1989 IROC For sale in CA
Forget the seat covers.. this is a 156k mile car.. there was a free Carfax attached to an ad I saw on Carfax Used Cars..
Looks like from 91-97 (6 years) the car was probably driven 80k and the odometer rolled.. next inspection was recorded lower miles than the previous odometer.. When the car was “re-titled” it probably reset the mileage in the system without the “1”.. The 5 digit odometers were really a bad idea.. When I bought my car I could see all the inspection mileage throughout the years to make sure it made sense. That’s one thing Carfax is good for as well as owners and title issues as well.

Well that's a game changer. No wonder why they put the seat covers in there.....
