91-92 Z28 Worth?

I'm going to be looking at a 91 Z28 350 Auto here probally this weekend but I'm having a hard timing gauging the value. I'm speaking to him today to get more detail first.

it's a Carb and the TPI was ditched which isn't what I would prefer.

It's a Medium Maui Blue Metallic car though so I know that's pretty rare.

What's the general price ranges? He has it for 8700 obo.

Re: 91-92 Z28 Worth?

There are a ton of variables here, but that car's giving off all the wrong vibes IMO. Ditching the TPI for a carb is a questionable move on a 350 car, but it also depends on why. Are there performance upgrades? Is there any rust? Is the carb there because working with TPI pushes the limit of his mechanic knowledge? Does that mean there are a number of hacked up parts of the car? How many miles does it have? Where are the original wheels and hood? I can tell you that in Ontario, even with our salt issues, if that car was nice and solid but had a few funky modifications - it would fetch maybe 4500 CAD which would be just under 3500 for you. I don't know your market of course, but there are plenty of clean examples for sale right now just on this site that are less money for likely a better car. Just my

Re: 91-92 Z28 Worth?

I'd say carb conversion is going to hurt it big time, personally. A lot has to be done to a car to convert it from TPI, and I've rarely seen a clean/proper looking conversion without wires everywhere under the hood. Also it's a major downgrade in terms of reliability, performance, and gas mileage. Unless it has ridiculously low miles, I think about $5K would be top dollar for that car because of the carb, giant cowl hood, giant wheels, and spray painted taillights. If the car were bone stock (or easier to put back to stock) and in really nice shape with low-ish miles, $8700 would not be out of the question.

general price range on a camaro that has been repainted the wrong color , different rims , and switch to carb has no value on it .. who knows what else has been done to it .. pay whatever you think you want to pay for it but if you are looking for a nice third gen this would not be my choice ... good luck

Here's the link to the ad. Looks like a repaint, 4th gen interior, carb conversion, and isn't that the wrong dash emblem for a Z28? OR it's a carb 305 and the car's an RS with a Z28 rocker emblem. The headlight buckets are colour matched, and I may be wrong but I think L98 cars get the TPI badge on the rear bumper. Also "Very low miles" but doesn't say how many - plus everything that would give benefit to a low mile car has been replaced or removed. I think this car has been hill-billy'd and deserves a pass.

Re: 91-92 Z28 Worth?

I just spoke with the guy on the phone. I'm thinking it's a RS as well it came with a 305 TBI and now is running a 350 TBI. I didn't think you could get a TBI in a z28 in 91?

I asked him to send me a picture of the RPO sticker. He stated the was purchased in NC 6 years ago so the car has minimal rust.

I'm probably going to pass already at this point without looking at it considering the price tag he has it lol.

As long as the car runs good and is close to rust free I would be fine. I'm going to be upgrades for autocross and honestly a LS1 T56 swap is in the future so it not being original isn't a big deal. Just as long as I get a better deal

Passing is definitely the best call unless he wanted to shave 5k off the price. if you plan on modifying the entire car than you're much better off just starting with a clean roller that hasn't had mysterious fingers up its skirt.

If you are planning to spend $8,700 on a thirdgen, run, run, run from this one and find a better option - there are many.

Re: 91-92 Z28 Worth?

L03 - carb 305 = RS. Bet that's actually the original motor, not a 350, which means that thing probably struggles to do a burn out on a gravel road.

Re: 91-92 Z28 Worth?

I bet it's a 305 still as well. If I could get it for cheap I'll entertain otherwise it's a hard pass.

Thanks everyone for your commments etc.

Also if anyone has a really clean car let me know I'm looking.

I would love a LSX T56 swap car and heavily prefer a camaro but mainly looking for a clean one in general.

Re: 91-92 Z28 Worth?

How can anyone look at this car and not see that it's an RS with Z28 badges?

Think about what makes a 91-92 Z28. Hood blisters, high rise spoiler, 16" wheels, Fog lights, TPI, Z28 badges. When you start taking those things away, or replacing them with clearly aftermarket parts (no fog lights, cowl hood, aftermarket wheels, Camaro badge on the dash) it starts to get suspect pretty fast. You can look at the pics under the hood and tell pretty easily that it was probably TBI originally.

I don't think color is even a z28 color, is it? Don't know the name but isn't the Z blue much darker?

Re: 91-92 Z28 Worth?

Well if it was a z28 which a few people alreadly figured it out that its not quickly if u r going to swap in a ls1 and a t56. i wouldn't do it to a nice original 91 or 92 z28 its getting hard to find these cars unmolested.
