I stumbled upon a really curious car today... I saw a 91 GTA for sale in Switzerland, owner states that it is a GTA, but it has the L03 TBI engine. I couldn't believe that, so he sent me the SPID and guess what... it says Y84 there... A buddy with a Compnine access checked the VIN and it is a real GTA with L03 TBI.
I am driving 3rd Gens since 2005 and was always absolutely sure that a GTA had a LB9 or L98 TPI and never a L03 TBI... I am very interested in 3rd Gen history, but that was absolutely new for me. Anyone here can give a few informations about that? Anyone ever heard or seen something like that?
Here a few pictures of the car and the SPID. And the link to the compnine build sheet: Link
...yeah, new to me, too...
...but strangely they exist ...same with the 91/92 Switzerland (and iirc Austria) export-spec WS6 Trans Amˋs with the L03...and also the export Convertible TA‘s with the same engine...
Definitely strange. Base Firebird tail lights too .. yuck. I kinda like the paddle mirrors but that motor would really be a drag considering the majority of 91 GTA's with hardtops are L98's. Still a clean car though and a nice colour combo
All EXP cars for germany, austria and switzerland received the base tail lights and the ugly paddle mirrors. Had something to do with our law here... breakaway mirrors are a must here.

Re: 1991 GTA with L03 TBI engine?
As mentioned before the engine was Export only thing on the TA or GTA, same goes for the tail lights, many foreign countries mandate the amber turn signals, so 85-90 obviously the Base firebird/Formula tail lights would have to be used on a S/E Trans Am or GTA from those years However 91-92 Trans Am & GTAs had the amber turn signals, but for some reason they still got the base tail lights.
