Its a dark brown, 5 speed car with crank windows, and under 6,000 miles.

I just assumed it was a black car.....it even says BLACK for the color at the bottom of the ad.......and then I read the window sticker.

A friend bought a new TA in 1986. It was two-tone, brown over gold. It was a sharp car. It was well equipped with a 5 speed, and had the carbureted V-8.
Personally I like brown. Maybe partly because you just don't see it very often.

I agree, rare because its an oddball! Not a fan of the color at all. To each his own I guess.

Perhaps the ad is made up of pictures of old snapshots because the current state of the car has deteriorated, or so I hear.

80's stuff is hot right now, and nothing says 80's sports car like a good shade of brown. Coupled with the T5, this car definitely has an "it" factor.
Would love to see recent pics, though... if you can take digital photos of old photographs, why not take digital photographs of the actual car? Does it have some embarrassing clay bar residue on it?

Yeah..... "it" is ugly as sin. Regardless of what era is hot - Brown is never hot. Brown is the color of feces. That's never going to be a "hot" color. That color says the buyer was elderly and thought it wouldn't show the dirt. They didn't pop for power windows, or probably many other "options" other than AC. It's massively over priced. Even with 6k on it..... I would paint it. Anything but that hideous brown. Yuck.

Boy I'm definitely in the minority here. In the drab world of silver and gray cars that fill our highways these days, I think a rich brown would look good. How many variations of silver and gray is GM offering on a typical model these days? Gray, graphite, steel gray, shadow gray, nightfall gray, silver, silver ice,. They even have multiple shades of white and black. Booorrrrring.

Interesting how sensitive people are getting here... nobody is saying other colors are bad, they're just commenting on how unique and decidedly 80's the brown GTA is.

That price is nuts and with the sketchy old pictures to boot, however I think brown can be a cool color on certain cars i.e Brentwood brown second gen Trans Am etc. and honestly I’ve seen a few 2 tone third gens it looks good on.

Dark Russet Brown is an interesting contrast to the more common black, white and red. I think it's cool. But, I also have a yellow IROC.

I thought the very dark brown with the gold lower body accents that a friend had on his '86 TA was a good looking car. At a glance, it appeared black and gold. Then you realized that the black was actually a dark brown.

Re: OK, This has to be a rare GTA
Yeah I remember brown being popular in the later 1970s. My sister and her husband had a 1978 Regal in brown. And yeah, I thought that was a pretty sharp car too.
Weird story with that car. They were pretty newly married and didn't have a ton of money. They ordered a different car, a Skylark I think. It was supposed to be delivered and it disappeared. No one knew what happened to it, but it wasn't on the truck. Stolen I suppose. The dealer contacted GM and GM offered them the Regal to replace the Skylark at no additional cost. It was a good deal for them because the Regal was a fair amount more expensive than what they had ordered.

Re: OK, This has to be a rare GTA
Definitely not. Unfortunately, modern GM's philosophy regarding color palette is "50 Shade of Gray."
I think certain colors work for certain cars, even colors that I don't like. Black pretty much works on anything when it's clean. I like white on sports cars and maybe compacts, but midsizers like Malibus or Camrys just look like appliances.
I often rip on gray and silver and really don't like them, but someone here has a gunmetal gray Trans Am which I think looks great. I don't recall seeing many gray Trans Ams and that one really stands out. If you gotta have gray or silver, that gunmetal shade is the way to go. But mostly I'm not a fan of silvers and grays. That's not color, it's the absence of color. And the biggest problem is that they're just everywhere.

My Z28 is silver, and I dont mind it with the stripes that make it pop. The same color with the gray stripes bores me, though....
My brother had a brown 82 Camaro back in 86. I didn't hate it, but any other color would have probably been better....
I would, however, take the brown GTA over a teal Camaro, any day.

Re: OK, This has to be a rare GTA
Yep, it is. It is showing the LB9 and the 5 speed as a credit. So it's the Y84 GTA option, with a credit for the 305 and 5 speed, since the $2,700 GTA option includes the 5.7 and auto. So the $780 basically comes off of that price
