Rear Gear Size Question
My 1985 Iroc came with a 10- bolt with a 3.42 Gear ratio. Any idea what size the ring and pinion are?’I know there are various ones in this type or rear end. Trying to figure out what size it came with originally.

Re: Rear Gear Size Question
That was right about the time they added the extra 1/8" to that model of rear. (went from 7.5" to 7.625")
Parts catalogs might list it either way.
7.75" is different, if you see that in a catalog, though; that's the 9-bolt. I don't think any piece of that fits any 10-bolt, or vice-versa.
Doesn't too much matter though; all the parts stayed the same. All the gears you buy today for that model of axle are the larger size and fit all axles of that model no matter which size was original.
A better way to look at it is, why does it matter. IOW, maybe there's some better way to get at whatever you're ACTUALLY trying to find out. Such as, does this fit that, which one should I buy, etc.
