Love those last two! I guess I'm biased, having bought an Arctic White '91 Camaro new, and now having a Bright Red Firebird.

With the recent high sales, let's hope these go high also. It could be the start of a new collector market.

That 1990 isn't gonna do that great. 15" wheels, and the engine compartment looks absolutely HORRIBLE. It's missing the distributor cover, the hood insulation, and the ENTIRE plastic intake. Missing the tuned port injection emblem, and rocker callouts. The car is kind of a pile. That is definitely not a good example of a low mile car

Hopefully they all go high. But auctions always command 20% higher prices especially Barrett auctions.

But it's shiny and it's an IROC, that's all that'll matter.

It does Charlie & thank you for it! Went on flawlessly, ended up using the same adhesive that's used for window & door gaskets but in a clear. Completed the back of the car for me.

I'm hopeful they do well but a little concerned about the timing. At 5:30 the last front engine Corvette goes across the block for charity, mine are supposed to go across between 6 & 7 but with the normal delays of the day more likely between 7 & 8. My concern is the energy will build with the Corvette and then leave the room, however I'm told that the people who didn't take the day off for the auction will be pouring in after that and those are more likely my buyers. On the plus side, if you want a 3rd gen, there are very few to choose from, and mine are the only 1LE's.

Very nice Chris. Good luck.

I don't think the Friday evening time slot is a bad thing. I was there last year on Friday and it definitely gets more crowded late afternoon into the evening.

The IROC very went for $22,550 including buyer commission.

A 1980 Trans am sold for $11K, but there were 4 other 2nd gen T/A’s that sold for good money. 3 in the low $20’s and a 79’ for $42,900.

The crazy 2nd gen Trans Am prices have already peaked and have been on their way down the past year.

I was expecting the 91 Formula to hit 20. I'm kinda bummed. Then again, I'm not informed enough on current values.

I saw the car in person and it was in much better condition and cleaner than represented in the photos. Paint looked nice, panel gaps were good and interior looked pretty good other than a very small tear in the driver’s seat bolster. It didn’t look like it was worn thin, but probably something snagged the fabric and tore it. 25K miles is believable. I think the 15” wheels and 305TPI/auto held it back from bringing more money.

Although the Formula 1LE is rarer than the Camaro 1LE, i’m not surprised the Camaro brought more money. More demand for the 3rd gen Camaros than the Firebirds right now. Both are very nice cars and presented very well.

As we all know, all sorts of cars from excellent-showroom condition to less than excellent go up for auction and so just because a car is there doesn't necessarily mean it's in the former category.

According to the auction results, both sold with no reserve. The 1991 Camaro shows $23,100.00 and the 1991 Formula shows $18,700.00 but I think that includes some fees?

Hood was also closed, so couldn’t verify the underhood “issues” from the photo.

I think so because from what i remember on the telecast, the Camaro ended at 21 even and the Formula at 17 even. So maybe a percentage fee?

Bummer the auction on MotorTrend only caught the Camaro once it left the block. Wouldve been nice seeing it up close. The Firebird looked brand spanking new all around.

Dumb question but are the wheels on that original? Hard to tell on tv but almost looked powder coated. Probably just looks like that because of how clean it was.

That's what they hammered at and all things considered probably a real world value for them. I had hoped for more but the money had left the room. I was told Ken Lingenfelter had bought the Formula but when I watched the replay when I got home, that wasn't him.

Formula although rarer had 133,000 miles on it and as we all know in 3rd gens, miles are king. Although the paint, body & interior were in very nice shape, the underside showed the miles and the years of use. The Z28 was not stock which may have hurt it with the purists and needed a headliner - I had one of the incorrect T-top style center rib headliners but didn't have the heart to put it in. It also showed it's usage with paint chips around the car - that said it's a well sorted car, ready to go anywhere and will be a blast for it's new owner.

I got in them early and didn't have to put much into them so for me financially it was a win. Great day & experience, spent most of our time with Jim Mattison and his son JD and ended the day having drinks with Christy Lee & Bogi....good time!

I thought those two cars brought very strong $ . I expected around 12k on the Formula and 20k on the Z28. I'm actually still blown away these cars are bringing in that kind of $ now, good for you Chris.

I do not know the numbers, but both cars had some miles on them... The IROC had around 65K and The Formula had something like 120K miles on it... So in reality Chris did really well... If I am wrong, please let me know, but this was my understanding.

The Formula had 1336XX miles on it and the Z28 had 61,XXX (don't really know) miles on it. The Formula I only had 30 or so miles on so couldn't really speak to it's performance or long term driveability. The Z28 I had over 1000 miles on and it's been my fair weather driver for years. Those miles include driving to, driving on and driving home from Lime Rock Park for a track day where I spanked it...like I had a trailer in the paddock. It almost made it home too but the alternator had decided at some point that it didn't like 6000 RPM and quit working and the battery gave up when it got dark. All of that got fixed after the track day, prior to it, a set of NOS 1LE front calipers got mounted, new hoses, new bearings all new brake fluid and power steering fluid. That car I would have taken cross country without blinking.

With more money in the room, I think they would have rung the bell.

It was cool to watch cars of "someone I know" go across the block. I think they brought fair money and about the level I was expecting. Glad to see thirdgens finally getting some respect.
