Are those the 225/60/15 Gatorbacks? Aftermarket exhaust, too.

Tires look like Eagle GT’s. Why do think the exhaust is aftermarket?

Where Eagle GT's oem on the smaller 15"wheels? I had an 87 Trans am that came with those when it was new.
Always liked those tires, never really understood the +4 replacements though.
Looks super clean.

Sale fell through. Incident in'11 was car's storage space was flooded and carpet got wet. Seller says no other damage. I think you can see a waterline on newly added undercarriage pics. The one with the cat converter in it.

The car is listed as a total loss after the flood on carfax.

Re: 7500 mile, '89 IROC, $12,500
Well that might explain the sale & re-listing I suppose. That's just a bit more than a small issue & really should be listed in the sale description. Will save the seller an awful lot of explaining. The cars appearance and low miles are going to attract collectors & most will undoubtedly have more than a hesitation with that history report. If it was flooded, repaired & clean carax that would be a little different.
So whats the real value knowing that info?

Re: 7500 mile, '89 IROC, $12,500
Wow, this is a really nice well documented car. It is a shame what happened as you have to take someones word on the extent of the flood.
I think the price is reflecting the incident, Let's face it, this is probably a 20K or better IROC in today's market. I think your statement says it all, "the real value is knowing" That is why this is cheap for what it is. The buyer is taking a chance on this one and from the sound of it the last buyer decided the chance was too great for his liking!
What lurks in the shadows of this IROC!

Hard to assess the value here. If this car had a clean history, I could see it going for 17-20K, held back only by it's options. But how do you value a nice low mile car, which has been totaled by an insurance company? I don't know. It's worth something, but not as an investment at this point in time.

I have had two 1987 Buick Grand National's, and my first one (back in 1994) was a flood car. I had ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS with it. It was an electrical nightmare. I will never own another flood car....... Maybe if it could be proven FOR SURE where the water line was, it might change my opinion...
I was also told the water just got high enough to get the carpet wet.......but I put a stereo system in the car and all of the inner dash metal framework was rusty.

You don't make an insurance claim for a total loss if you just need to dry out carpet.
Dang, my carpet was covered in mouse **** and I didn't make an insurance claim.

Unless they got the payout and also got to keep the car and the sale money is just a bonus... I have it in my Hagerty policy that I get to keep my cars if they get totaled..
I also don’t think an insurance adjuster would total a car for wet carpets...

Yeah, you’d think someone who knew a lick about collectability would know not to put a claim on the car...

Our beautiful but flood damaged IROC is back, but now you'll need $25K to own it.

Just ran across this thread. Very interesting. Dubuque is not too far from me, would have liked to seen this in person. Something about it definitely sounds fishy, but looking at pics this thing looks mint. Kinda strange there are no underside pics in the eBay ad. Not sure if there were when it originally sold. Sure someone’s gonna own it lol

The seller DEFINITELY needs to disclose the flood history. Especially if it was declared a total loss. Then the title is more than likely designated as a "prior salvage".
There was a car lot near me several years ago that was buying flood cars at auctions, then selling them at their lot and not disclosing the flood history and they got in a lot of trouble. Got their dealership license revoked, too...
It was actually the place that my "light water damaged" 87 Buick Grand National was bought

Salvage title is a real hit on value. I'd give him $9K which is probably less than he paid.

I was wondering the same thing. Hell, the car could have changed hands a few times since it was sold in July and not transferred the title. Who knows....

Re: 7500 mile, '89 IROC, $12,500
Sure, but if he bought it for $12,500 that's still a great deal considering how mint it looks in photos. There are plenty of these cars with clean paper for less that will never look as mint as this one. A set of bigger IROC wheels would do wonders for it, though... and a T56 swap since, hey, "flood damage" - so no collector value!

He mentions the fellow ebayer that made him aware of the issues.....that was me. I feel bad for him, too if he really didn't know.
Yeah it definitely needs the 16" wheels....it doesn't have 4 wheel disc brakes, either. Looks really mint, but it but not very well optioned as far as desirability goes...

Re: 7500 mile, '89 IROC, $12,500
It would be sort of cool to have an IROC this mint that you weren’t afraid to modify...
In a Corvette forum there is a very low mile (maybe even 7k mile) C4 ZR1 that is being parted out because it was in a storage fire... The car looks mint except for passenger rear fiberglass is burnt in one spot and it had tar from the roof of the structure melt and drip all over the paint... They also said the floor gave out and the suspension hit onto a beam and was really messed up. Interior and motor look perfect and driver side of the car doesn’t look that bad...
Someone could stuff an LT5 ZF 6-speed into that IROC... just saying! They are selling the motor and trans together and said it runs great...
Its tough to say what a fair price on this car is...
I could see someone that just always wanted a mint IROC with no intention of re-selling it or using it as part of a collection paying $15k and putting some 17” reproduction wheels on it and enjoying the hell out of it... It could be one of those cars with a blemish, but never ends up having a problem

IMO, He's still asking too much $$$
It's got a highly questionable background that devalues the car, no matter the current condition.
Personally, I would buy it for the right price, but $18K is not the price. Also, I feel it would bring more $$
even with it's sketchy past if it was a 5.7

Seriously?
You guys need to get over your odometer blindness. That's a well cared for 107,500 mile car with a salvage title and zero desirability. It's a 305, auto, with 15" wheels, no t-tops, cookie cutter color, sheeeeit it doesn't even have the 140mph speedometer. Give me a break I'd be back in the car so fast the salesman would hardly get out of the bullpen before I'd be burning rubber getting off the lot. F that lame *** car, so many more exciting thirdgens out there to worry about, a brite red base Iroc doesn't even warrant a second glance.

I'd have to agree with 95% of Drew's opinion, except for the red part. A red IROC is the one I lusted for back in the day, and still jumps out at me when I see one.

I think he is still being a bit deceptive. Get in touch with the previous owners, get the real story, and explain what happened. This is definitely “Buyer Beware”!
