NEW! 90-92 V-8 or V-6 Tachometer circuit boards -Tach Fix!
Hello Everyone,
I have been an member of this forum for years selling and refurbishing camaro tachometers. Well, I have finally built a new, direct replacement tachometer circuit board for the 90-92 Camaros. I have boards for both V8 and V6 camaros available. They are available to forum members for $45 shipped and include a lifetime warranty. Boards with LED's (for diagnosing signal and 12v) are $55. All components are American made and hand assembled/tested by me. I calibrate them before shipping, but there is the ability to fine tune your RPM if you want through a small potentiometer. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks! Greg

Just one question, where do I send payment? I would like one, I am a working tachometer away from a completely working factory gauge cluster.

Unfortunately I don't, that is a separate problem from the tach circuit board. It might be a problem with the flexible circuit board on the back of the cluster.

Free bump!
These work awesome, fixed me right up, tried everything on my original board (replaced all resistors and caps, checked all traces, etc) and started to think maybe the gauge mechanism on my tach was actually shot.
New board from Greg, and the tach is good as new. Actually, since it's calibrated and adjustable, even better than new.
Thanks again!

Re: NEW! 90-92 V-8 or V-6 Tachometer circuit boards -Tach Fix!
Is this strictly the Tach? My oil pressure gauge isn’t working as well, i put a mechanical gauge to make sure it does indeed have pressure. But those two gauges are the only things not working. I’m going to try a few other remedies but if that doesn’t fix it I am interested in your board. Thanks!

This is a new circuit board just for the tachometer. the oil pressure gauge runs off the power and ground from the cluster and a signal from the sensor. sounds good. just let me know.

Greg, sounds like this circuit board might be a good fix. In your expert opinion do you think it would also address high reading tachs? At about 70 mph I'm doing 6750 rpm according to my tach lol.

Hi and thanks for being a source to solve this problem - looks like there are lots of people who have it!
Payment sent via Paypal 1991 RS 5.0 with 5-speed that has tach reading near redline at idle. DO you need more info or shipping address?

Hi,
My tach is pegged at the max (91 RS 305 auto) and the fuel gage and speedo are messed up. Could that all be related and do you have a fix for that? I plan on ordering your tach repair circuit board but wanted to see if you have something for that too.
Thanks

I've never really looked into fixing speedos. I've got plenty of work fixing these old GM tachs. LOL! I've read that it can be a simple plastic part that breaks off causing the tripometer to stop working. I can recommend a couple of good gauge repair shops if you are interested. Thanks! Greg

Re: NEW! 90-92 V-8 or V-6 Tachometer circuit boards
All of the gauges are independent except for maybe a power or ground wire. But i'm almost certain your tach circuit board is bad. Your tachs symptoms are very common among camaro owners. It is possible, I suppose, that they could be all related. But highly unlikely. I would check all of the connections for proper voltage and ground before discounting the related problem. I have a couple of chips ready to go when you are ready.
Thanks! Greg

Got the tach circuit board and just installed it. It's fixed! Now if you could help me figure out whats wrong with the fuel gage?
Thanks!

Awesome!
Usually it's a bad sender or a bad meter inside the fuel gauge. It doesn't have a circuit board like a tachometer does. I would try to locate a new fuel gauge in a parts yard if possible. They usually run about $10 here.
Thanks! Greg

Hey gcj280 and third-gen friends
I recently acquired a gauge cluster from mid-80's Z28.
I want to install the cluster in my 1988 V6 Sport Coupe.
As far as fitment, it looks plug-and-play.
I've had my V6 cluster out of the car while I was examining issues with the Vehicle Speed Sensor. So, I'm comfortable pulling the gauge cluster. That said, I have not yet disassembled a cluster to get a feel for the details of swapping circuit boards.
The tachometer on each cluster is "pegged" in the typical way these tachs tend to do.
If I install a V6 tachometer circuit board, on the Z28 cluster, what are my chances that the tach will funtion and be at least clost to correct calibration?
There is a pretty good thread at https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...atability.html that sort of talks about this issue. But, it really doesn't address my exact question about upgrading a V6 car to the V8 gauge cluster by replacing the V8 tach board with a V6 tach board.

Re: NEW! 90-92 V-8 or V-6 Tachometer circuit boards -Tach Fix!
That’s an interesting issue. I don’t have a lot of experience with V6 clusters fitting. I do milk now that it will physically fit, BUT I am not sure if you wiring will accommodate the gauges and if they are the same calibration as the V6. I DO know for a fact that the tachs are interchangeable if your V6 came with one from the factory.
I have done many conversions of V6 tachs to read correctly with a V8. The oil gouge would probably be off though. I believe V6 cars read to 80psi and most V8’s read to 60.
If both tachs are pegging when powered up, then both circuit boards are bad. Swapping them won’t help unfortunately. I can send you a brand new circuit board that will fix either one.
Thanks! Greg

Re: NEW! 90-92 V-8 or V-6 Tachometer circuit boards -Tach Fix!
Thanks Greg.
I've got honey-do stuff for the next four days, and I will have my first chance at seeing what the V8 cluster does on my car as soon as I get that behind me.
My V6 cluster does go to 80 with oil pressure.
I'm OK if the oil on the V8 cluster is pegged when I'm giving it the beans.
The V6 temp gauge works only when it feels like it, and the VSS is giving crazy numbers when I data-log.
Should be interesting to see what changes with the different cluster.

Revisiting this thread to report on the issue of interchangeablility of V6 vs. V8 tachometer in the context of complete gauge-cluster swap.
