Re: Seatbelt Recall
Can someone post a pic of the repaired seatbelts? I'd like to compare mine. From the sounds of it, it's probably far easier to do that than it is to get someone at a dealership to look up your VIN and verify it.

I will get a pic when I get home. I can still get the seatbelt kits from work as I work at a GM dealership.

Re: Seatbelt Recall
some how i just got mine done with the recall took them about 2 months to get the part after fighting with GM and them telling me that there was no longer a recall but yet i can log into there repair website(i used to work for GM and went to school for it) and can give them all the listing numbers
well to make a long story short i told them that id just have to get a lawyer and take it to the next level because it was a safety issue....all of a sudden they seem to pull the file out there a**

I want to think that the vert shoulder retractor is different than the coupe. The Lap retractor and the buckle are the same...
You might be able to take a coupe belt and modify it, but I am not sure how, or if it is possible...

Re: Seatbelt Recall
Just ran into this problem, found the parts @ Hawks, but going to see if my local dealership will install them due to the recall. That way I won't have to deal with the BS line of "The Parts are no longer available."

Re: Seatbelt Recall
If I go to the dealership could I still get this done?the female part of my se atbelts are cracking and are so dryed out they look pink.I heard safety recalls don't expire so they should replace them, right?

Yep,same here,I should go back and ask for some kind of proof that I was inquiring about the recall, because if god forbid some one gets injured because of that, they have to bear some kind of responsibility..

Re: Seatbelt Recall
It's so wrong that so many people are having problems with this. I found the documentation on TGO. Took it with me to the dealership. The campaign number has changed but they found the new number. Also had part numbers. The individual parts are hard to find but there are kits that have all 4 buckles. They checked and found many of those. Had one shipped in from Wisconsin. Brought my son's car in 4 days after I went to check on it and got it taken care of. Almost everyone at the dealership was back there checking out his car.

I got the same info and took it to them and they said that my vin was not part of it even when I gave him the paperwork,I even bought a new Malibu from them, you would think that that would have a little pull, you know.

Re: Seatbelt Recall
ok here is the info for the guy to get ahold of
good luck and be safe
good luck and be safe
OK...For all those stealerships the claim they don't have to do the recall...I went to the source!
From me:
"I'm looking for documentation, that shows if there is a set expiration date, for safety equipment. Some friends have had their equipment replaced, with no questions asked, others have been told no, not even with a newer year, of the same model car.
Any assistance you provide, would be greatly appreciated."
NHTSA response:
"No. There is no such documentation nor any such expiration dates.
George Person George.Person@dot.gov
Chief, Recall Management Division"
Notice it is from the CHIEF of the Recall Management Division?
Print this out, and dare a stealership to dispute it! I included his email address, so they can verify that this is true!
I contacted NHTSA online through the website, and the question was passed up the chain of command, to get the answer. I think I know where I'm going today!

Thanks. I'm just wondering what buttons I have to push to get a dealership to do this. I suppose any GM dealership could do this.

That email address George.Person@dot.gov must not be in use anymore. Tried to send a email to that email address. Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently.

Re: Seatbelt Recall
As some of you as well as I have found out that most dealers will laugh and give ya the blowoff on the recall/repair even tho we have the recall/NHTSA info. I have found
a easier way to repair the female belt ends and the broken plastic support holders.
Your local pic-a-part yard!
Almost ANY 74 to early 80s GM vehicle will be a willing donor of the female ends
and plastic support sleeve courtesy of a #50 torx bit.
Why pay big $$$$ for a Camaro/bird only piece?
Yes they will work with your 82-92 factory male belt ends!
These black metal buckle and perfect uncracked plastic sleeves came out of
a 75 Olds Cutlass ! FREE too BTW!

Recall rules:
Check the following link, which includes the info below.
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...allprocess.cfm
Are there any limitations on my right to have a recalled vehicle remedied at no charge?
"Yes. There is a limitation based on the age of the vehicle. In order to be eligible for a free remedy, the vehicle cannot be more than 10 years old on the date the defect or noncompliance is determined. Under the law, the age of the vehicle is calculated from the date of sale to the first purchaser. For example, if a defect is found in 2003 and a recall ordered, manufacturers are required to make the correction available at no charge only for vehicles purchased new in 1994 through 2003. However, consumers should realize that even though manufacturers are not obligated to remedy safety defects in older cars, a safety problem might still exist. If you receive notification of a defect on a vehicle older than 10 years, take the responsibility to have your car repaired at your own expense – and eliminate unnecessary safety risks.
"Also, if the manufacturer challenges the agency’s final decision of a safety defect, there is no obligation for the manufacturer to remedy the defect while the case is in court. If you decide to have your vehicle remedied at your own expense while the case is pending and the court upholds NHTSA’s final decision, you may be entitled to reimbursement. (Be sure to save all receipts and paperwork so that you can prove the repairs were made.) However, if the court ultimately rules the defect is not safety related, Federal law does not require that the manufacturer reimburse you for the repair work."

I presented all the seatbelt recall credentials (vin numbers included in the recall) to the local GM dealer too. They giggled and said how old is your car? after i told them it was an '87 T/A.
I still want it DONE!

Re: Seatbelt Recall
--edit --
Just read JameC's piece. Seems they don't have to, but they'd be silly not to as I can see it leading to law suits. "By law you don't have to, so you didn't, and now little jonny is dead".

Re: Seatbelt Recall
My belts were broken on my car brought into the dealership had a ton of issues back and fourth with the first dealership Bankston in North Richland Hills, TX refusing to even touch my car. So GM after several complaints arranged me to take my car to a different dealer willing to look at the issue and said they found the last seat belt for my car and are only able to fix the drive side currently. They are looking into a after market option to have both sides done and match. Been in the shop for few days now. Problem without working belts won't pass safety here in Texas...
IDK what parts they will be using but from exactly what the District Manager "...they have to fix them even if it means after market parts, because it's the law and recall's are for life".

Had the belt replaced under the recall. The belt is part of the recall on my car not the push button. The belt cost much more than just 10 bucks FYI...

just an FYI . My ex Pontiac dealer installed the red clips at no charge. I also had the original letter that was in my receipts with the car so it was hard to argue.

Re: Seatbelt Recall
After being disrespected by customer service, I quickly went to GM Corporate about this issue. I specifically told the woman that she would have to get her head out of technology and look in the books, cause I highly doubt she will find it online from 31 yrs ago. She held a 2 day investigation and closed it saying she couldn't find it. Those few of you who are actually getting this done... How?!
