Pontiac Recaro seat restoration?
The '83 Daytona pace car I'm looking at buying needs a restoration of the seats, and I was just wondering if anyone carries the covers and/or foam for the seats? The driver's side left bolster on the bottom cushion looks to be smashed in. I do work at an upholstery shop, but I do not own the car yet, so I can do nothing yet but do some research while the car is in someone else's hands. If I do my own re-upholstery job, I'm going to make custom covers...probably with white vinyl where the leather is, and the insert would be dark grey to match the white/dk grey theme of the Daytonas. I would then have to redo the door panels and the plastic trim as well. Maybe even the steering wheel and a shift boot? I dunno.

How many yards to cover a seat, and how close to original will the reproduced cloth be? I contacted you once before about this through your website and you never got back to me. If you have that material reproduced I would think you would have plenty of customers, as it was also used on the viscount PMD seats from 1982, and nobody has that cloth.

well the material cost i quoted was my price so thats no mark up at alll - you would need a total of about 5 yards give or take to do both front seats inserts and jackets.

Sorry - I think I had you confused with someone else I had contacted about these seats. I checked out your sight and your work looks great. Where are you located, and how much is it to recover a set of Recaros?
Also, when you have material reproduced, how close does it come to the original?
What is the minimum amount that needs to be reproduced?

Thank You. We are in Tacoma, WA. Price to make a set of jackets/inserts starts at 500 and goes up from there depending on the exact work needed and specific material used.
When the material is reproduced it will look exactly like the oem material. They do a great job, its where all the restoration companies have their material made. Its also within the US so you dont have to worry about somebody overseas screwing everything up and being hard to communicate with.
Min is 5 yards @130 a yard. If you were to arrange a pre order/buy in bulk the price goes further and further down the more you purchase.

Unfortunately, you are on the other side of the country. That sucks, because your work is great. If I purchase a set of covers from you, how hard are they to install? The open hoop headrests look like they need a lot of skill to recover. Would a local interior shop be able to install those covers with the same results as you? Also, to reproduce the material, how big of a sample do you need?

We test fit every item we make and take pictures before sending it out to assure fit and finish. We also offer free install on everything we make so it might even be cheaper to just send us the seats.
As far as the sample goes we need atleast 1 full repeat of the pattern.
Another thing to note is that we can still get 90% of the original foam for these seats, its not real cheap but it is still available.

Alright - I have some things to think about. How much would it cost to send seats cross country? I doubt I could send it UPS.
If I don't send the seats to you, I need to figure out where to get you a swatch without destroying the current seat covers.
