weird panel, missing foglight connector?
i went to the junkyard today and picked up a few interior parts.
one of the things i picked up was the panel that holds the headlight **** and foglight switch.
The one I had originally in my 89 rs 305 has a hole for the headlight switch and where the foglight switch was supposed to be, there is another empty hole.
So the one I got had the hole for the headlights and the foglight switch below it, I went to put it all together but realized there is no harness or connector for my foglights. I checked under my dash in the wiring mess down there but cant seem to find it.
Can someone explain to me why my panel had 2 holes instead of a hole and switch, and why i cant find my foglight connector? I do have foglights

whoa, I just checked out a few pictures of rs camaro interiors and noticed they have no foglight switch. So someone must have dremelled the second hole there. Then where is my foglight switch supposed to be? or am i not supposed to have foglights?

Re: weird panel, missing foglight connector?
ok check it out.. I was pulling off my side marker and noticed the foglights I had were plugged into something, which didnt make sense. RS, no foglights, but why are they plugged in? so I went back under the dash and unbolted my fusebox and moved it aside and found "A FOGLIGHT CONNECTOR." since my battery is dead I am unable to check if my fogs come on.
If I have an RS how come my fogs are plugged in and I found the fog connector? Whats going on?
EDIT: BTW, the fogs are coming out of the original harness and weren't wired in by someone. Ill take pics now and post em.

Humm, the IROC grill has openings for the fogs. What type grill do you have?

Re: weird panel, missing foglight connector?
JamesC is pretty close... You could get fog lights on the late Berlinettas, the LT, and maybe some 85-87 sport coupes, and they were optional on the Z28, standard on the Iroc. They were never even an option on the RS.
However people have been wiring fog lights into all Camaro's since about 1985. Chances are if you have fog lights, someone added them. The wiring is anyones guess.

Re: weird panel, missing foglight connector?
Oh it could be possible someone wired them in but they just look so stock, The connector from the fogs goes to the original harness and the connector under the dash, iirc, comes out of an original harness, it would seem like too much trouble, especiall for someone who treated this car like crap, to wire in the fogs so stock.

Re: weird panel, missing foglight connector?
The OEM lights are unusual, the inside edge of the lense sticks out about twice as far as the outside edge, so they're shaped like a wedge of cheddar. If your lenses are flat, they're aftermarket. The stockers also have adjuster screws, like the ones on your headlights so they can be aimed up or down. Most aftermarket lights just have a hinged base bracket that tilts. Stock also have a huge steel mounting bracket instead of just a threaded mounting post.

Re: weird panel, missing foglight connector?
I don't think that having the connectors/wiring themselves is particularly unusual.

Just to clarify, and make sure we're on the same page here... The fog lights are circled in red, the grill is circled in green.

The front bumper on an Iroc or Z28 is exactly the same as a RS. Only the grill on fog light equipped cars is different. The RS you posted a pic of earlier had the louvered grill, someone just broke out both sides.

Re: weird panel, missing foglight connector?
I believe in the later years at least, all the cars got the fog light wiring on the cabin side, but not on the outside. There seems to be a "Twilight Zone" in the firewall connector where the fog light switch wires disappear, and never make it out to the front of the car. I added the fogs to my 1992 RS, and used the factory switch. I wired it so that the factory switch got juice to 1) activate the little light in the switch when it's turned on, and 2) to just run low amperage juice out to the front. I then used a relay, and connected the fog lights from the battery through the relay. So, I flip the switch, positive turns on the green switch light, and runs under the hood to activate the relay, which then makes the connection between the battery and the lights themselves. That way, there's no high amperage wiring running into the cabin.
Re: weird panel, missing foglight connector?
Technically if you roll back the clock, in 1985 that front end was specific to the Z28 and the Irocz. The matching license plate bracket was specific to the Z28/Irocz. When the 88 Camaro coupe, and later the RS rolled around they used the parts originally intended for the Z28. Also since the fog lights were optional on the Z28, there's not really a "Z28" and a "RS" grill, since either grill could be found on the Z28. To the best of my knowledge, Fog lights were never an option on the RS.

Interesting James C!
By the way - you really know too much about these cars! (Not that it's a bad thing mind you)
