There is a small flat clip on the front side (closest to the dash). Use a needle nose to pull the clip, **** will lift right off.

If it's auto with square shifter ....Put key in, turn ign to on, pull shift lever all the way back into 1 - look on the radio side of the shifter, you'll see a staple - pry it out (small screwdriver) and the **** will come right off the stick.

Re: shifter button has cracks and I wanna know how to remove it

I think they are replaceable with a 4th gen **** as well - I'm pretty sure the leather one I got off ebay to replace my OEM vinyl one is a 4th gen **** - it's a tad longer (goes a bit farther down the rod) than my OEM one, and it looks identical to the **** in my 1997 Z28.

I see them on ebay all the time (the entire ****, not the button) - not sure the button is available alone.

I just need the push button part. I wonder if the 4th gen button would fit?

It should - I can see no physical difference between the **** I installed in my 1992, and the factory **** in my 1997.

Well, that's good news. I could find one from a car being parted out, or maybe just... maybe GM may still stock it.
