Has anyone installed these Summit racing seats?
I'm in the process of redoing the interior of my 1989 IROC and I'm looking for inexpensive racing style seats. I found these seats from Summit.

If anyone is familiar with installing them, I have a few questions. Were you able to mount them with the sliders they come with? If not, were you able to mount the your sliders directly to these seats? I've seen sites like Hawks Third Gen that sell new seat sliders and I'm just curious how difficult it would be to mount them to these Summit seats?

The sliders that come with the seat wont bolt in. Your stock brackets wont bolt to the seat. You have to make an adapter. It is fairly easy, all I did was welded 1 inch wide strips of plate to the stock brackets to allow me to drill new holes in the correct place to bolt to the new seat. I will upload some pictures when I get home tonight.

It really is as simple as 2 strips (per seat) of metal to adapt them to our stock seat rails? If so....
Are the Summit seats like really stiff/hard cushion? Too soft? I just hate buying something like that, that I couldn't "test drive" (sit in, even if just on a showroom floor). And no...I haven't found anyone local that has some to sit in.

Yes, it is quite simple. If you have a power seat you will need to switch to a manual bracket. With this method, you retain the stock slider. Your seats will end up being about 1/8 inch higher than they were but it wasn't a problem for me. I have Heard that 4th gen brackets are easier to convert due to the top being flat, and they directly bolt in to our floors.
I have never sat in those exact seats, but my summit seats were firm but much more comfortable than stock seats. I agree with not being able to test them before I buy, but I am happy with mine. I drove from North Carolina to Idaho (2300 miles) in them and they were comfortable the whole way. I would hate to think about doing it in stock seats.

Re: Has anyone installed these Summit racing seats?
I already have 4th gen manual seats & being 6'5", the lower profile of them vs the 3rd gen seats was perfect for me.
I do wonder how you can be so certain about the seat track adaption & how they might compare to your seats, when they aren't the seats you have. Which ones do you have? 3rd & 4th gen seats are both made by GM (or the lowest bidder) but they can hardly be compared as far as comfort goes.

Re: Has anyone installed these Summit racing seats?
The seats that I have are no longer available, but are very similer. Mine are cloth and have smaller harness holes. According to summit racing's customer service the bolt pattern is the same as mine. I'm just guessing that the comfort will be comparable, and almost anything is better than stock.
I agree that 4th gen seats are a lot better than third gen's. My good friend has them in his.
