Are horn buttons that look the same from 82-92 Interchangable? Fiero versions?
Are horn buttons that look the same from 82-92 Interchangable? Fiero versions?
So I'm trying to figure out if GM left the design the same across Firebirds, Trans Ams, GTAs, and Fieros when it came to horn buttons that are this style...
Why do I want to know...
Bit by bit I'm tweeking my indy Fiero... I wanted to do a small "reversible" mod, but I have not messed with one of these badge style horn buttons before...
First... I remember on my 87 firebird the embossed horn button was a pull off and pop back on. Are these round styles all interchangeable with any of the round style (fiero/firebird)? So If I wanted to use a horn button from an 84 Firebird. Would it interchange into my 84 Fiero?
Next... See the indy logo in the cover of this pic I borrowed...

How hard is it to take the logo/badge out and put it back in? I don't want to hurt my indy one. I want to take my indy logo/badge out and put it in another horn button and put that horn button in the car.
Here is the horn button I want to use and put my indy horn badge in it.

Also seems the Fiero GTs, gta, and the TTA all shared the badge style look, but are they all physically the same?
badge styles...
fiero GT

its back...

Others got the embossed style like my 87 firebird... just trying to see if they will all interchange... Anything you know about these would be awesome!

Re: Are horn buttons that look the same from 82-92 Interchangable? Fiero versions?
looks like both the embossed fiero and the badged fiero horn don't have the electrical connector on them like the embossed bired adn circle badge firebird ones do... hmmm...
maybe a bird one can go on the fiero but not vice versus as the electrical tab is missing?
Another embossed fiero

Fiero horn insert... any birds have this?

Do all firebirds use this as a horn wire insead of the above?

I believe they are interchangeable. Chevrolet has always been lazy as far as coming up with unique parts. trying it out cant hurt anything.

They look interchangable for sure as i cant see GM changing them as alot of pieces for alot of cars back then where interchangable. I like the embossed fiero one man.
Re: Are horn buttons that look the same from 82-92 Interchangable? Fiero versions?
so the short version...
the rubber covers are interchangable, but the metal guts underneath must be the rightone of the car. even folding the tab on the f-body one... it will not fit on the fiero column as the center bolt sticks up to far. this must be why the fiero versions all have the recess in the center... so f-body will not go on fiero as a direct swap. the fiero one might work on the fbody if you could mock up a tab for the wire to attach too.
seems all fiero horn button "guts" are identical to all fieros (badge or embossed)...
all firebird/trans am horn button guts are identical to all birds (badge or embossed)...
so swap the rubber covers only and reuse "original horn button guts" (embossed style or badge style) and you should be good to go....
