Recaro seat adapters.

Well I tried to find a set of OEM Recaro T/A sliders but was unsuccessful. So I decided to make my own. These allow the use of the OEM Camaro sliders with the Recaro seat. These are made from 1/4" 7075 T6 aluminum. If you want to make your own, its up to you do determine the correct material and thickness. I am NOT responsible for anything that happens if someone decides to use my design. It is NOT intended to be copied, these are for REFERENCE only.

For the correct result, make sure you print this on 11x17" or larger paper with NO SCALING. Use the provided standards to verify the scale of the print out.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

Post pics when you put them in. I love the Recaro T/A seats; best 3rd gen seats IMO.

I actually have had one in for mock up. They are not actually the T/A seats, but similar. They are LX-C's from an old 911.

Thanks guys there is nothing fancy about what I did. These were made with the template, a jig saw, sander, and drill press.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

Interesting, you made your brackets run across the seat. Do you have any issues with the Diaphragm bottoming out on the bracket when sitting in the seat? I was worried about that so I designed my brackets to run up along the sides of the seat, Though I had to use spacers to allow the sliders to sit level whereas your design eliminates the need for them.

BTW, who did you have recover your seats? I'd like to recover and refoam my Recaro LS seats eventually to match my interior better.

It is on a forum where roll on paint jobs are acceptable.

Yeah I had actually originally planned to run them in the direction that you did. That was until I noticed the curve in the OEM seat sliders. It looked like I would have needed ~3/4" of spacer to make up the difference. I cannot afford that much lift due to roof clearance while wearing a helmet. Now that was test fitting with the OEM passenger slider. I will be replacing my driver side power sliders with a Fiero slider as it is much lower profile. That slider is flat. I probably could have gotten away with running them in the same direction you did on the drivers side. But I really didn't want two different designs, and I had already cut a bunch of metal when I realized the Fiero sliders are flat. 7075 is not cheap.

I suspect the diaphragm may contact the bracket. It is close, I'm really not sure how much it gives with a person in the seat. With that said, I have sat in the seat for a few minutes and I do not notice anything weird. The good news is it would only touch at the front and back. Not much weight on that particular location.

Before I even started looking at the seat, this was my original idea. I like the one piece.

The seats were done by Ron at JJ Custom Interior. He specializes in old Recaros. He is a small business and they took a long time to complete. But for me the wait was worth it. He is very open to all kinds of custom options. I am also having him make a set of netted head rests for that full 80's effect.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

Thanks for showing us this. I hadn't even looked to see what was necessary to bolt mine up yet. I knew I 'needed' the adapters but the only set I found I can not get in touch with the guy. I decided then that I would be making my own. I like the way you did it and will do something very similar when I do mine. The idea of going across the tracks may be ideal for many people and definitely helps make it easier to make even if the seats were wanted to be higher.
Good Work.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

On thing I should add is that of my two Recaro seats. One had 6mm mounting holes and the other had 8mm holes. The mounting bosses are the same, so I drilled and tapped the 6mm holes out to 8mm. The brackets have hole sizes assuming 8mm holes. Also, the Recaro mounting holes are supposed to be 16" apart, side to side. One of mine was about 1/32" over 16" and the other was about 1/32" under 16". So make sure to measure your seats and adjust your holes accordingly.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

Thanks for pointing that out. I would have probably made the two sets the same and never double checked till trying to put it together. I like to use just the right size hole so it could make a difference.

I had a feeling that you would have gone there. Especially since he's fairly close to you. I'm well aware of who he is and his work. I've been considering having him recover my Recaro's.

Good deal. Let me know if you need any other info. For an idea of options: Mine are heated, will have a lumbar bladder (back ordered), has a provision for an anti-sub belt, and I will have both the normal (shown) and netted head rests.

He had a set. Mine are actually out of a mid 80's 911. Very similar to the Trans Am seat but a little larger bolstering. He has a lot of seats laying around LX, LS, SR, etc...

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

I contacted him to do a set of seats for me. I think he is about the only one that gets the Recaros right. I am in NY and I have to send them out to him, but it is well worth the cost and effort.

I have a question for you though - why is the seat back release on the inside of your seat?

Mine are universal, and have the adjusters on both sides.

GPSkinzhut's are probably the same way.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

Wow - I didn't know they had them that way.
BTW - I have a spare set of the Recaro seat adapters. They are nothing special - it looks like a piece of rectangle steel with spots to mount them to the seat and brackets. Very crude IMO and I think yours look better. I am not sure if the brackets are just standard thirdgen pieces but I would suspect that they are. The original recaro seats do sit low and I find that I have more head room in an original set of thirdgen Recaros as opposed to standard thirdgen seats.
I can get some pics if you want. I just picked up this set of Recaros so I didn't have them when you were looking for them. I could have taken some measurements for you to go by.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

Some do have them on both side, but not mine. mine came out of a VW from the look of it. The VW's have the recline adjuster on the inboard side so the release would be on the other side. So technically I have my seats swapped side-to-side. Not really an issue for me though... long arms.

The rails I used came from a recaro T/A, very basic adapter and should be stock, though I don't have a frame of reference to verify.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

That's them - i have the adapter that is sandwiched in between the seat and the tracks. The tracks were missing from the set I bought. I suspect the tracks to be standard thirdgen tracks. I can't see them tooling up a separate track for the recaros. That is probably the reason for the adapter. 87350iroc - if you want additional pics I don't mind taking them.

I would love to see what they look like up close and with a little more detail. Before I swapped in my Recaro's I had searched high and low for any kind of picture or even diagram for the adapters and could only find the one posted above, which is a little hard to make out.

Yes, more pictures would be great. I think it would be good for the community, as DBLTKE points out. I would love to see the bolt pattern and how they attach to the OEM sliders.

And if you are interested, I might be interested in buying them from you. I am also looking for the seat belt guides if you have them.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

The seat belt guides are standard third gen pieces. I think I have also seen them on 2nd gen cars. I will take a pic of the ones on my seats. The unique part is the metal that is mounted to the headrests where the seat belt guide mounts to. I am not sure if it is a separate piece. I will have to take a look. Give me a day or 2 and I will snap some pics of all this stuff.

I had this pic in my Photobucket. This is one of the Recaros going back in my car. You can see the metal bracket attached to the headrest. The seatbelt guide attaches to that.

These are the seat belt guides it uses. They are listed for second gen F bodies.

Cool, I didn't know they used the second gen guides. That will make things easy. I have the headrests with the mounting brackets, just not the guides. thanks for the info.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

Of course one would assume that 82tarecaro would be right about recaros which he is, but I searched a while back and looked at any and all pics of the recaro seats in third gens and all the pics showed the second gen seat belt guide. This was a relief to me as I need them myself. I am glad to actually have it confirmed tough.

If any one has a round adjustment **** for the side of them please PM me. I do not want to hijack this thread.

No worries on the hijack. This thread is turning into a good resource for all the Recaro swap parts.

Are you referring to the recline ****?

My seats being universal, also have the ***** on both sides. Now they rub on the center console, so I will be removing my inner two and converting the seat to side specific. I'm not sure if Ron wants the ***** back, but if not, I'd be happy to send them to you. And if he wants them back, I'm sure you can order a set from him. He has all kinds of extra parts, side plates, adjusters, ect...

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

Yes it is the recline ****. One of mine is broken. If you are keeping them then please PM me with a price etc so I can get them from you.

The information for the adapter plates and guides is very informative and I am sure others have been curious too.

I love the Recaro Seats because to say factory Recaro Seats make people think. Most people do not know about them except enthusiasts. I didn't before becoming a part of TGO. For me they are very comfortable also.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

Well - I have a set of Recaros in pieces and i have my good set out of the car. If you guys want pictures of anything, let me know. Ron is a great resource for Recaros. I think if you guys need parts he would be the one to contact. He is busy, and it can be a challenge getting in touch with him. But if you are thinking of getting a set done, he is the man to talk to.
I will get some pics of the adapters. I have to dig them out.

Wow - Ron does great work. He is supposed to do my seats early next year - you have to wait in line for superior work.

I bought the seats from JJ Custom Interior. He has a pretty decent stock of seats. Give him a call.

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

Also,

If anyone wants a set of the seat brackets let me know soon. I may be making a set or two from Ron. The more we get the cheaper they are. Price would probably be $170.

Those look amazing. Is the stitching a silver, or white?

Your interior is making my jealous and want to start over in mine

Re: Recaro seat adapters.

Those came out sharp. I'll have to drop Ron a line and see if he can add that to the list. This interior is never gonna get finished if I keep adding to the to-do list.
