Roll up cargo shade repair

Roll up cargo shade repair
I was excited to find a vinyl cargo shade in the junkyard from another IROC, and immediately installed it in it's rightful place in the mounts in my IROC.
However, it worked great for exactly two days. The passenger side plastic cap looks to have broken where it attaches on the inside of my otherwise very nice shade.
Is there a way to repair the plastic cap, or is this something I could find somewhere? The shade is in extremely good shape, and I'm thinking it might be more likely to repair this one, than find an affordable other shade.
Additionally, I seem to have been having trouble keeping the two pins engaged into the trim piece on the hatch...is there a "trick" to latching this to the hatch, or am I more than likely looking at a trim piece that the slots are too worn to hold the shade?

Yes. According to my RPO codes, my car originally came with the shade. The mounts were already in place when I bought the car, and I'd already verified the metal brackets were still there underneath, but the shade was long gone.

You can slip two of those boxes together to make it long enough. USPS has them also, may be less expensive.

Before installing a privacy shade you must "wind" it up.
That puts a lode on the spring in the shade and allows it to retract properly.
Otherwise there just sloppy.
You push in on one of the ends with it rolled up and turn it until there is a lot of tension, then install it.

How does one get the fabric out of the roller..if the end caps dont come off?..I bought a 2nd one to fix..I need to iron it,and dye it back to black..It rolls ok,but according to this thread, the fabric can be removed..Has anyone else confirmed this?

You can drill the rivet/s out, but the piece behind it is a little fragile. With the cap off it's alot easier, but you can slip it out with the caps inplace. For that you have to pull the shade all the way out.It fits into a slot & will slide out if pulled.
The shade should not retract unless the ends are pushed in.As when installed on the vehicle. This releases the ratchet, so the shade rolls back up.

Re: Roll up cargo shade repair
I opened it fully, and locked it into the un rolled position..I hung it up on either end, taped all plastic parts and sprayed with a water bottle. Soaked it a bit and saw some filthy looking water drops off of it..I will take my steam cleaner to it this weekend, then I will spray with the black upholstery dye I purchased. I will post back results here. .....I didnt try to hard to pull fabric out of the channel for fear of ruining it.....

Re: Roll up cargo shade repair
I restored my vinyl cover using parts from my cloth one a while back. You can find info about it in my thread. I also found out how to get more power into the roll-back mechanism.
If your shade doesn't latch into the mounts properly, you may have to replace the smaller spring inside it.
Here's the according post:

Re: Roll up cargo shade repair
I ran across this thread a couple of weeks ago and I'm glad I did. Being new to the 3rd gens, I had no idea what the two mounts were on my interior panels when I removed them. Yesterday, I went to a swap meet and spotted a roll up shade on a vendors $5 table. Thanks to this thread and the restoration thread link, I knew what I was looking at. The guy told me it came out of some import. I didn't argue with him but the shade came home with me. It's a light tan so a re-color is in order for it along with all the other interior plastics in the car. I have been getting a lot out of these tech threads. Thanks to everyone who posts in them...
