I had the same issues I had the brown\tan interior and wanted to change to a black interior to match my desired details. For the small pieces that have a lot of wear and tear I purchased off eBay, hawks, etc. but the larger pieces were too expensive so I painted them but it flaked off pretty easily. I have not tried other methods yet I was going to try an enamel or similar with clear coat next.

Well how did it go? You seem to start all of these threads and then abandon them.....?

I am interested to see what people have done on the 'cheap' side to change the interior color.

PREP is the key to the paint lasting! Those years of Armor all and such prevent the paint/dyes from sticking or lasting.

Re: Gray Interior Plastic Trim
I had to paint some interior plastics and used a thread that was on here years ago, but I will give you a quick rundown. Don't cheap out on materials.
Start by scrubbing the panel with a strong all purpose cleaner like simple green. Rinse it good. Then use a painters product called prep solve to get the rest of the grease and solvents off. Then give it a coating of adhesion promoter like bulldog adhesion promoter. Now you are ready for paint. Use a quality paint like SEM plastic coating and give it a few even, light coats.
The SEM is extremely durable and I have painted arm rests with it and it did not come off.

I did a couple of J R soft pieces and just cleaned and scuffed them with laquer thinner and steel wool then sprayed them with that SEM spray bombs. Still holding up quite well.
